1500 point campaign list

**Second Edit after first game. I got my butt handed to me by Dark Elves. However, I have made some changes and strengthened the areas that I felt needed improvement. Fist of all I exchanged the screaming banner for banner of the eternal flame. After running into a Hydra that I essentially couldn't hurt taught me a lesson. It was not the most devastating though. Losing my Necromancer the second round beat me. First off I didn't have a bunker. Second, once his unit was stuck in, he had no protection. Night shroud and a bunker unit is my response. I consolidated the bat swarms to one unit of three. This combo works really well, but folks will shoot them off the table if your not careful. Going simultaneous with Grave Guard is bad. Other than these changes, this list is painted. I think that it can be effective, but like Counts should be its going to take some finesse. Let me know what you'd change. I have a unit of Hex Wraiths, 20x skeletons, 9x Black Knight, mounted Vampire, corpse cart and more character models toward a 2500 point list. Feel free to suggest some higher point directions too. Thanks in advance for the advice and critique.

*Edited List (based on suggestions below): Hey again everyone. I hope this thread finds you well. Here is another list extending the logic of my 1k learning list. I'm going to get to play in a campaign soon. Let me know what you think. I'm going for functional and flexible. My vampire is not a power house and my necro is what I feel like I need to fare well consistently. I am having luck with the compound fear device between my vampire's fear incarnate, the skeleton's "screaming banner", and the Cairn Wraith's terror. This seems to jive with a certain synergy. As always, let me know what you think and if you would change anything. Essentially I can raise the zombies up to 60 strong in total (I know, I need more) and the skeletons to 55 (w/Master of the dead). I would eventually like to acquire a unit of hex wraiths and a terrorgheist for growth into 2250. However, without further ado...

Lord (15.6%):
Master Necromancer (General)
Master of the Dead
Earthing Rod; Night Shroud

Heroes (14.5%):

Vampire thrall
Fear Incarnate; Summon Creatures of the Night
Dragon helm; luckstone;
extra weapon; heavy armor; shield

Cairn Wraith

Core (27.8%):

28x skeletons
FC; swords and shield
Banner of Eternal Flame

30x zombies
musician; standard

19x zombies
(Bunker for Necro)

10x Dire Wolves

Special (30.7%):

23x Grave Guard
Great Weapons
F.C.; Banner of the Barrows

3x Bat Swarms

Rare (11.6%):

Varghulf

Total: 1500

Looks pretty good. Maybe try squezing in 4 mor zombies for 2 units of 20? You could also split the dire wolves into two units of 5, but they work as they are if you like it better. How has the GG unit been working for you?

I say to drop the Varghulf and add more Black knights and GG to make your army super beefy. Personally I love the varghulf but a unit of 6 black knights is worthless. Only 6 attacks + mounts and without barrows they are even worse. Maybe drop the knights and take more GG and keep the varghulf. Something just needs to be done about that weak unit of knights.

The GG are working fine. I went with great weapons and they smack stuff well. However, if I had it to do over, I would consider swords and boards. You still have your killing blow, a 4+ and the parry save (6+) when hard-hitters get stuck in with you. Never the less, GG offer that unit that either your opponent commits to or avoids and that seems to be central to VC in general.

As far as the Black Knights, I like the unit for more killing blows and flank threats. Its true that they actually do better in 1k games it seems. However, they do move well, have 2+ saves and have nice strength 5 hits on the charge. This give me some mobility. The unit that I want to try and take in their place are a unit of hex wraiths. Fast cav, ethereal, great weapons and terror. So, when I can I'll pick up a unit of those models.

I often do runt he dire wolves as two unit of 5. I like the new rules on them and find them great screens and great at harassing in general. Thanks again for all feedback and good hunting.

RE: 1500 point campaign list

Okay, I've edited the list, decided to go with slightly more casting power. I figure I will bunker the necro general in the zombies and use him to regenerate, raise, and augment. The vampire is there to supplement and add some hitting power, while having some survivability. The cairn wraith is there to contribute to damage and the fear synergy that I'm going for. Again all comments and critiques are welcomed and appreciated.

Looks good, make sure to get your dogs in the same charge as a batswarm, Dogs arent bad on the turn they charge. Also batswarms in combo with the varghulf might be nice. All of this granted you are killing a chaff/archers/detatchment and not a 70 rat slave block.
