1500 points Khorne DoC

Hello gang,

This here's a nice little take-all-comers list I've built around what I think might be my second Warhammer Fantasy army. There's really not much subtlety available when you're limiting your list choices so severely but I think that it should stand a good fighting chance against most things thrown at it. Regular opponents include High Elves, Bretonnians, Warriors of Chaos and other Chaos forces. I'm especially looking forward to fighting the mono-Khorne WoC army that one of my friends have started. Blood for the Blood God indeed. Devil

Anyway, here's the list~

Herald of Khorne - Armour of Khorne - 115

29 Bloodletters - Full Command - 378 *Herald goes here*
24 Bloodletters - Full Command - 318

5 Flesh Hounds
- 175
5 Flesh Hounds - 175

4 Bloodcrushers - Standard Bearer, Musician, Icon of Endless War - 335

Heroes: 115/375
Core Units: 696/375+
Special Units: 350/750
Rare Units: 335/375
Total 1496/1500

The general strategy will look pretty much the same regardless of the opposition - get into striking distance to begin chopping limbs and taking names. I've also got 5 fortitude points to keep me covered in case the Blood & Glory scenario rolls around.

I will hopefully get a chance to try it out tomorrow or this Sunday. I'll be back to tell you about it once the blood has been set flowing. smile

If your playing standard 8th edition scenarios mostly then you have no valid watchtower unit, just thought i'd point that out. You also seem quite vunerable to flanking and id be worried about being outmanouverd, I could be wroing though espeicaly with the extra mobilty of quick reforn and such in 8th.

I'd have to agree on the flanking thing from Stevielash, if you're out manouvered you can quickly lose your vital hammer units - Letters are great, but aren't the be-all, end-all of Warhammer. To counteract this, I'd suggest swapping out them 'Crushers to make the Hound units bigger. Adds an element of survivability to both units, you could easily make them both 10 models I think. You might need to even out the bigger unit if 'Letters a little to afford the last one or two, but you will benefit extremely well from having units able to break ranks - nothing worse than losing one too many fragile 'Letters and your opponent becoming Steadfast.

RE: 1500 points Khorne DoC

Thanks for the feedback guys,

I hadn't actually considered The Watchtower scenario when I wrote the list, although I think I'll still be able to compete in it. Assaulting a building with a raiding party of Bloodletters should be able to bear some fruit, I'd think.

Anyway, I reckon that it's too risky to rely (or hope for, even) on Flesh Hounds disrupting enemy ranks due to their cost and relative vulnerability. The way I see it, the only thing that will be breaking ranks with any reliability in 8th is going to be infantry. Large units of Flesh Hounds still have some apparent potential though, and I'll likely test it out in one of the battles I'll hopefully have after this one. Unfortunately I never got to try the list out this past weekend. Let's hope that the next one will be more eventful.

Thanks again. smile

RE: 1500 points Khorne DoC

Hello again,

Sorry for the doubleposting, but I had a couple of games against the Khornate WoC army this past weekend - unfortunately, I lost them both. His list consisted of a Chaos Lord on Steed (Crimson of Armour, Helm of Many Eyes + Great Weapon), 2x5 Khorne Knights, 15 Khorne Warriors, a Warshrine and 3x5 Marauder Horsemen with throwing axes. The Marauders were nothing but a minor annoyance at most, but I found myself outclassed by his fighting troops. The relative lack of attacks from my side really made itself visible when my opponent simply melted away my Bloodletters in protracted combats. Flesh Hounds bounced off of Knights and were ground down by the other enemy units. The Bloodcrushers suffered greatly from their lower Initiative, quickly losing their 'oomph!' even when catching the Warrior unit in the flank.

I think I need to bring a Bloodthirster to the field in order to give myself some kind of an edge against this foe. neutral

Im sure Khorne would be proud of the slaughter. Bad luck on the loss side his list sounds very optimized for melee slaughter. Personally I think the bloodcrushers are too much of a point sink that arent worth it. If your net on mono khorne theres little you can switch for before the list gets very repetive.

I would suggest branching out a bit into other gods forces, some high initative attacks from slannesh troops could help thin his ranks before he hits you hard. Good luck in all your games.

Nurgle also makes a good partner for Khornate daemons, being able to act as an Anvil more effectively than anything Khorne can bring to bear. Try out a big block of Plaguebearers in order to add some survivability to your units - combat forces don't work unless they have something capable of blocking your opponent in for atleast one or two rounds.

RE: 1500 points Khorne DoC

I appreciate the input guys, but after some additional playtesting against different opponents I think I've decided to drop this project. The changes to the game mechanics in the 8th edition seems to have sucked out most of the fun that I hoped a purely close combat force would be. I simply don't think I'll be able to keep the interest up for very long at all - in fact, I'm pretty tired of it already.

Thanks for the support though. wink

Your welcome. I assume you were just proxying models, otherwise im sure youd think twice about dropping it =3.

Yeah, I happened to have a dozen-or-so Bloodletters lying around from earlier escapades and I pretty much proxied the rest. I learned the lesson of not buying Warhammer impulsively long, long ago. I'm certainly glad that I did too, or else I'd be one sad fellow right now. Slap face

Oh certainly, I've always got a couple of projects to juggle at once. Unfortunately, none of them really have anything to do with Warhammer - on that front I guess it's back to the Vampire Counts for me.

Could be worse. tongue
