2500 Points, First big Army

Hey guys- A projected idea of where my army might go. My only concern is the lack of core, and potential hitting power?? Do you think I have too many points locked up in my Lords/Heroes? What would you drop to get some Rares in (specifically the Varghulf perhaps? Is rare necessary?) Also, comments in general?

Count Mannfred- 530 Points

Vampire- Lvl 2, Additional Hand Weapon, Red Fury, Armor of Silvered Steel (Shadow)- 248 Points
Necromancer- Level 2 (Death)- 100 Points
Wight King- BSB, Razor Standard, Great Weapon- 160 Points

68x Skeletons- FC, Screaming Banner- 395 Points
5x Dire Wolves- 40 Points
5x Dire Wolves- 40 Points
15x Ghouls- 150 Points

3x Vargheists- Vargoyle- 148 Points
10x Black Knights- Lances, Barding, FC- 290 Points
29x Grave Guard- HW/S, FC, Banner of the Barrows- 399 Points

Total- 2500 Points

Thanks!! Suck

15 Ghouls is too few to really make a dent in anything. I'd siphon off a few points to the Skeletons to at least get them to 20.

I agree with you - this list is lacking punch. The first thing I'd do to remedy that is give the Grave Guard Great Weapons. Also consider bolstering their numbers so they can rock out in Horde formation. I'd also consider a Terrorgheist or a Varghulf here. To make room for all of it, I'd scrap the Black Knights - they're just run-of-the-mill heavy cavalry, and that's not what's winning games in 8th edition (hard-hitting heavy infantry is). If you insist on having a mounted attack force, I'd change gears a bit, and work on getting lots of Vargheists and Blood Knights, because both those units would hit like freight trains.

RE: 2500 Points, First big Army

The 15 ghouls were more for a bunker then anything else, for the Necromancer (who I am switching to vampires/ the ghouls will now be 19 + a ghast in case of challenges, and the skeles will be 58 instead of 68). Maybe zombies will serve this role better? The Skeletons will give a home to the Shadow Vamp and the BSB, while Mannfredd will go with his GG. Shadow could switch him out from there if needed. Hopefully though with Nerfing the enemies toughness and the Razor banner + Horde formation and two characters, the skeletons will be at least marginally hitty.

The problem is that I'm somewhat reluctant to drop anything else. If I drop the Vargheists, and give the guard great weapons, that means that I have 119 points to play with. Any idea how to get the extra 56 for a ghulf?

If you're looking for room for a Varghulf, I'd start with the Wight King - given that you have Great Weapons, the Razor Standard (and thus the BSB upgrade) is probably unnecessary.

At that point though, I would probably move the Wight King into the Skeleton unit. I plan on eventually getting the FW model for him, as I love is so much, so I would really like to keep him in there. grin

Redone total. Thoughts? grin

Now that the book is included, do you think it may be wise to move either the Death Nec or Vamp to another Lore of Vampires user? (Probably the Necromancer, seeing as Manny is a Loremaster of death).

Yeah, that Forge World Wight King BSB is all kinds of boss. I love it, too. Vampire2

I think the Necromancer should be a backup Lore of Vampires caster, yeah. Mannfred is already a Loremaster of Death, and it's not like Death has as many spells you want to double up on as the Lore of the Vampires anyway. Overall, the list looks solid, and I know that heavy cavalry is going to HATE your Grave Guard.
