Game #1 - Dwarves

Runelord - 2 scrolls, Anvil

Thane - BSB, 1+ re-rollable armor save

Master Engineer - stone, GW, GA

40 Warriors - HA, GW, FC
30 Longbeards - HA, Sh, FC, stuff

30 Hammerers - HA, GW, FC, stuff
Grudge Thrower - penetrating, accuracy, flame, engineer
Grudge Thrower - penetrating X 2, accuracy, engineer

5 Miners - GW

Organ Gun

My opponent deployed in the corner with WMs behind is blocks of infantry. I advanced quickly and engaged with a fairly intact line. I had to sacrafice my master necro but the end result was the demise of the warriors. The overrun took my depleted ghouls and king into the hammerers. That battle dragged on until he had his BSB and 5 Hammerers versus my king, 2 ghouls, and a wraith. I challenged with my king and his BSB accepted. This is when a series of extremely improbable rolls occured and I did no wounds ... with anything sad. He killed the 2 ghouls and won by 4 (my kin was wounded) and I forgot about my BSB. Dead king and unit right when I should have ripped the throat out of the opposition ... sigh. My BKs engaged his longbeards and bad dice continued. They did survive the game though. I had several mahines down to a single wound and the anvil was fighting a wraith with no magical weapon but it was to little to late. Oh, the gheist screamed once ... rolled a 4 versus a WM (average means death) and died to flanking warriors.

Loss. This was one of those game were I outplayed my opponent ... and still lost. A single round of WTF! cost me the game. 5 re-rollable attacks hitting on 3's and wounding on 2's versus a re-rollable 5+ and I cause 1 wound before saves ... sigh.

Game #2 - Wood Elves

Lord - Alter Kindred, L-Bow, Wildfire Blades, 2+ Ward thingy, stuff
Archmage - lvl 4(life), stuff

Noble - Eagle, Shield of Ptolos, L-Bow, GW, stuff
Noble - BSB, Bane, Hail, stuff

10 Dryads
10 Dryads
8 Dryads
10 Glade Guard - Longbow, S + M
15 Glade Guard - Longbow, S + M

6 Treekin

Eagle
Eagle
Treeman
5 Way Watchers - longbow

I deployed terribly but that didn't seem to matter. My gheist continued to roll very poorly as its first 2 screams caused 3 wounds to dryads and 1 to the eagle noble (it was at max wounds sad). It did finish the dryads off though. I also did 6 wounds to the alter lord before his 2+ ward kicked in with gaze of nagash ... of course he passed 4 6+ saves to keep the guy in the game. My BKs ran over dryads. My ghouls and BSB ran over more dryads and overran into the small glade guard with archmage (I had pinned them with a spirit host earlier). They lost but got away sad. My king with skellies and MN did in the treekin and escaped a bit multi-charge.

Win. Things worked out a bit better this time. No unlikely wiffs and my king chopped everything to bits that was put in front of him.

Game #3 - Skaven

Warlord - sword of anti-heroes, warlitter, stuff
Greyseer - lvl 4, stuff

Chieftan - BSB, stuff
Engineer - lvl 1, Doom Rocket, Condenser
Engineer - lvl 1, Dispel Scroll

34 Storm Vermin - HA, Halb, FC, stuff
30 Clanrats - LA, Sh, FC
30 Slaves - M
30 Slaves - M
Rat Dart
Rat Dart

8 Rat Ogres
6 Gutter Runners - sling, poison
6 Gutter Runners - sling, poison

A-Bomb
Doomwheel

Things started off very well as the grey seer exploded on his first spell ... crying shame that. My opponent wanted to concede but I convinced him to play on.

I quickly lost my chaff as I delayed units so I could deal with one threat at a time. My knights did in the a-bomb and overran into the flank of the rat ogres. Earlier that round I had charged a spirit host, swarm, and ghouls with king into the rat ogres flank. Unfortunately, a failed charge by another of my units blocked the ghouls so only the ghosts and swarm made it in. Perfect opportunity and it failed ... bummer. Anyway both the swarm and spirits died. My flanking knights were going to be flanked by the storm vermin but I planned to make way with my BSB to neutralize most of their attacks. That's when the a-bomb got back up with full wounds and hit my BKs in the rear ... I really hate a-bombs. Least to say my knights and BSB all died.

At this point I was sweating because I had little left ... my ghouls and king, both wraiths, the MN, the skellies, and the gheist versus almost the entire skaven army. I persevered though. The gheist did in both gutter units and the doomwheel. My ghouls and king destroyed the rat ogres.

Win for the VC. Tough game with some bad/good luck had by both players. My opponent had my skelly unit down to a single model several times but I kept raising them back up.

So, I went 2-1 which wasn't to bad. I really should have won the first game but flukes happen.

As for the army:

Strigoi Ghoul King - lvl 1(vamp), Red Fury, Beguile, Dread Knight, Ogre Blade, Dragonbane Gem, The Other Trickster's Shard

A. This guy just destroyed everything in his path. Vulnerable ... yes but good luck survining the encounter. Never used Beguile, or the Other Trickster's Shard, or the Gem and Dread Knight was annoying as he had to challenge every round instead of beating face on RnF

Master Necromancer - Dispel Scroll

B. He's useful in this particular build. However, a single lvl 4 lord would be a more efficient use of points.

Vampire - BSB, Barded Nightmare, HA, Sh, Dragon Helm, Dawnstone, Warrior Bane

B. Useful but not great. He needs a higher S so he can do more damage.

Wraith - GW

Wraith - GW

C. I had the spirit hosts to do their job. Unless my opponent fails his fear test they typically don't add much. Must remember Terror.

38 Ghouls - Ghast
28 Skeletons - LA, Sh, FC, Banner of Eternal Flame

C for both of these. All combats came down to the king. These guys just supplied bodies. I would do better with zombies or skellies instead of the ghouls.

5 Dire Wolves
5 Dire Wolves
5 Dire Wolves

C+. Useful bt not great. Fellbats do a better job and are cheaper.

12 Black Knights - Barded Steed, HA, Sh, Lance, FC, Banner of the Barrows

B. These guys are hard to kill and they come back pretty quickly. They do not put out a lot of damage though.

2 Bat Swarms
2 Fell Bats
2 Fell Bats
Spirit Host
Spirit Host

B+. These guys all did their jobs very well. The spirit hosts pin units. The fellbats can quickly get in the way when no-one else can. The bat swarm is deceptively effective with his high charge range, wounds, and attacks.

Terrorgheist

B- ... mainly due to bad dice rolls. I need this guy to deal with fast maneuverable units. He's not good in combat.

RE: 2500 pt Tournament

Intresting read and still a good score with 2 wins. I´ve been intrested in trying the ghoul king myself and this info really helps. He seems to be very vulnerable indeed, and I have to think of ways to protect him.
