[8e, 2200] New to VC, need someone to rip this list apart.

Hey all,

Been playing Warhammer for a long while, but I'm new to VC. I've had the stuff for a long time, but was hesitent to put it together in 7th due to the bad rep the army had.

So, now it's (mostly) together, and I'm looking for someone to rip this apart for me and tell me all the things that I'm doing wrong so far :P

(On another note: The vampire BSB will most likely become a wight king. Currently, I don't have a model for that, so I can't swap it over yet.)

Primary Opponents in Area Are: Dwarves, WoC (Lots of WoC...), Daemons.

38 Skeletons [10x4, Horde] 362
+Full Command
+Spears

24 Ghouls [6x4] 200
+Crypt Ghast

Corpse Cart 100
+Unholy Lodestone

20 Grave Guard [5x4] 290
+Full Command
+Great Weapons

9 Grave Guard [5x2, Bunker for Lord] 126
+Champ/Mus
+HW/Shield

2x Vargulf 350

Vampire Lord (Primary Wizard/Raiser) 435
+Extra Level
+Master of the Black Arts
+Forbidden Lore (Shadow)
+Lord of the Dead
+Talisman of Preservation
+Helm of Commandment

Vampire (Rides Alongside Skeletons or GG) 225
+Battle Standard
+Flag of Blood Keep
+Dread Knight

Necromancer (Failed Casting Insurance) 110
Extra Spell: Vanhel's Dance Macabre
+Staff of Damnation

Total: 2193

(down a few points because I "fixed a glitch" I forgot about...)

A few minor points.
- If you aren't concerned about stupidity rolls on your lords high leadership you could save a few points by trading the Talisman of Preservation for the Crown of the Damned.
- Even with the Blood keep flag your vampire being mounted is kind of chancey for being picked off. Especially with him being the BSB I could see some opponents really dumping a handful of attacks just to get the points and prevent any rerolls from your BSB. I wouldn't necessarily say change it, but just keep it in mind that he is a target.
- I like the idea of a grave guard bunker just to clear out any combat your lord may get into, but 9 models of undead even with a 4+ save and a toughness of 4 can disappear fairly quickly from either CC, range or magic.
- One other thing that was mentioned to me on my 2200 list was that Corpse carts weren't the most efficient use of points. I had mine in my army for ASF but was able to squeeze some points in and get a vampire with the lore of light to give ASF or any other number of benefits for just a few more points. I won't say for sure this is the way to go until I do some more playtesting with it.

Good luck with army.

Unless your looking to raising loads forget the lodestone, the balefire is far more useful vs enemy magic. Obviously against the dwarfs (gun line I presume, I do have one but am changing it to marching axes) then the lodestones the best choice. Haven't fought WoC yet so not sure of there magic potential, but again I do find with the new casting system that a balefire is better.
The rest is looking good, again the ghoul thing pops up but its up to you, follow the hype for the ghouls yeah they are great but they look crap, or make your army look good and have skellies (hoping a new book comes soon and makes them better, but don't hold your breath)
And again as above, why mount your BSB apart from the fact its the only model you have, (just a hunch). Its just seems out of place in an infantry list.
Maybe if dwarfs are a main opponent maybe a wraith unit with banshee. (But that's just me I love the look of them.)
Maybe look at forbidden lore for a second vamp and try some buffs or hexes, or fireballs for the offensive range

The word 'gen' means "illusion" or "apparition". In India, a man who uses conjury is called a 'genjutsushi' (a master of illusion technique). Everything in this world is but a marionette show. Thus we use the word 'gen'.

'Hagakure' the book of the samurai
Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

RE: [8e, 2200] New to VC, need someone to rip this list apart.

I've basically almost totally revamped the list at this point, couple of explainations:

1) The BSB has been mounted to provide a higher armor save, and also to prevent him from being forced through the unit for challenges due to incompatible base size. By properly angling the horde, I maintain exclusive control as to whether the character is engaged in combat or not when I charge, as he cannot make way into the unit. So, ultimately, I can choose to put him on the corner of the combat, or instead charge in such a way where only skeletons are engaged against MOST units.

2) I've decided to go with the cheese-with-a-stick vampire instead of the dedicated castery type.

3) I've dropped the cart altogether, it just doesn't seem to be worth the points as initially suggested.

4) Ghouls... meh, I don't mind the models, not a huge fan overall, but I don't hate 'em either, and they seem point for point better then skellies. I also have the models, mostly painted, so it'd be a shame not to use 'em.

Here's the new list. There's a couple filler items in there.

40 Skeletons [10x4] 380
+Full Command
+Spears

24 Ghouls [6x4] 200
+Crypt Ghast

20 Grave Guard [5x4] 300
+Full Command
+Great Weapons
+Banner of Hellfire

Vargulf 175

4 Blood Knights 325
+Std/Mus
Flag of Blood Keep

Vampire Lord 450
+Extra Level
+Dread Knight
+Walking Death
+Red Fury
+Dreadlance
+Crown of the Damned

Wight King 165
+BSB
+Skeletal Steed w/ Barding
+Tomb Blade
+Ironcurse Icon
+Talisman of Protection

Vampire 200
+Forbidden Lore (Shadow)
+Lord of the Dead
+Helm of Commandment
+Cadaverous Cuirass
+Pidgeon Plucker Pendant (this might not be legal, I don't have my BRB with me so I don't recall if it's a talisman or if it's an enchanted item)

RE: [8e, 2200] New to VC, need someone to rip this list apart.

I find the corpse carts very useful, especially with ghouls against Empire, Brets, Orcs, Dwarves, Lizards, etc. (anything w/I3 or lower). They get to re-roll attacks w/the ASF rule, which, with poison, is awesome!

Also, I might trade in the blood knights for Black Knights-many more models and they can rank up and still get attacks w/killing blow.

Good Luck!
