8th 2500 VC list mk2: The Revengening - Advice Appreciated!

Hey there, I posted a list a while back for 2500 of new VC, but after much contemplation I decided I wasn't really happy with it. I'm new to 8th (only played a single 1k game vs. the new Ogres, which I won pretty soundly), but have done some reading and am pretty familiar with the general caveats of 8th edition army building and was very successful in 7th (though our army was a bit overpowered to say the least). However, all that aside, I am still an 8th rookie, and could use some advice.

I tend to play against my friends and we play friendly games and enjoy playing somewhat fluffy lists, so I'm not trying to build an 'Ard Boyz GT winning army, just one that is pretty balanced and fun to play. I generally play against Ogres and will be playing against WoC too, so I'd prefer to avoid things that are totally useless against them, but I definitely want to skip on the army tailoring to their weaknesses(no naked level 4 Necros with lore of death).

Here's my go so far:
Lord 489
Kurt von Sturmfelder - Vampire Lord - Deployed with GG
-Red Fury
-Quick Blood
-Dread Knight
-Ogre Blade
- Talisman of Preservation
- The Other Trickster's shard
- Heavy Armor
- Shield
- 2 Wizard level upgrades

Heroes 344
Necromancer - Deployed with Zombies as a bunker
- 1 Wizard level Upgrade
- Book of Arkhan
Necromancer - Deployed with Skeletons
-Dispel Scroll
Wight King - Deployed with GG (not next to Kurt)
- BSB
- Gold Sigil Sword
-Shield

Core 635
Skeleton Warriors x49
-FC
Ghouls x30
Zombies x20

Special
Grave Guard x23
- Banner of the Barrows
- FC
Black Knights x10
-Barding/ Lances
- FC
Corpse Cart
- Unholy Lodestone
Spirit Host x2

This leaves me with 199 points to play with, and I'm not sure what I want to do with it. I've been considering dropping the spirit hosts adding six crypt horrors and adding a few models to the GG, or maybe adding a Terrorgheist. I've also considering adding 3 Vargheists to deal with WM/ Individual Characters/ etc, and then beefing up the GG.

The general idea is the Grave Guard form the center of the army with the corpse cart and block of zombies (with the level 2 necro ) directly behind them and adjacent to one another. The Ghouls and Skeletons will be deployed to the right and left, and the Black Knights will be deployed on the far side of the skeletons (to benefit from their necromancer). The hosts will float around and annoy monsters/ chariots/ small groups of cav.

All feedback is much appreciated, and thanks for reading!

I'm not sold on the Orge Blade for your General, it makes him strength 7 which is nice, but mostly people will be throwing chaff at your Grave Guard to slow them down so you need to get through them as quickly as possible. With that in mind I would maybe go for the Sword of Strife so you have 7 Attacks at S5 instead which makes more of your Redfury against Rank and File guys. But it's horses of courses really, against Ogres you'll be wounding on 2+ with the Orge Blade and 3+ with the Sword of Strife.

With your free points you could consider squeezing in a Terrorghiest, but thats mainly because I love them.

Friends don't let friends play new VC without the Cursed Book Perv Being a level 3 as your top caster, you want them throwing dispel dice at those incredible randomly generated spells smile

I found Dread knight to be annoying always issuing challanges. WS 7 is fine for me, hitting most things on 3s, sure things may hit me on 4s but high toughness, AS and a 4+ ward is fine, plus hunger, invocation plus Vamp lore attribute keeps him topped up in CC just fine. For me, chopping rank and file (murdered 7 Dark Elf spearmen last night in one CC round... with dread knight I would have had to of challenged an Assassin eek )

And yes, you want a Terrorgheist!

Thanks for the feedback guys!

@ Aramoro: That has been really one of the hardest parts of designing that character, I'm constantly debating on +2 S or +2 A. I like +2 S as it gives me the ability to deal with monsters and characters, but I like +2 A as it will almost always be useful. I think I may have to just test them out and see which one I like better in play.

@Eggspr: Yeah, I can see how it would be annoying, I just felt it fit the fluff really well. I may well drop it, besides I need to free up 26 points for that Terrorgheist!

That said I think I'm going to give the Terrorgheist a shot (and am excited for it to move up the priority list for modeling/painting, I absolutely love that model!)

Again, I really appreciate your feedback!

I am actually going to change my advice because I am fickle. I thought your lord was in a Great Weapon wielding Grave Guard block so plenty of S6 attacks but I see that he is not, in that case I would take the Ogre Blade.

Very valid point, yeah, I'm running sword and board Grave Guard, so I don't have much in the way of dealing with high toughness. Considering I'm using them as the center of the army I decided to go HW/S for the extra durability.
