An Ethereal Solution to a Big, Fat and Ugly Problem

I know we already have several recent threads about the Ogre Kingdoms and how to deal with them. I'm gonna be fighting them in a 2k battle in the next few days and I have decided, after reading the threads, to go with a large ethereal element in my army.

I'm going to use 4 individual spirit host bases, 2 units of hexwraiths and two banshees to bog down big monsters, ironblasters, scraplaunchers and all the other big beasty warmachine type things they have. The ethereal bases should hit these things and stop them from moving/shooting for the rest of the game enabling the rest of my army to gang up on and defeat his Deathstar Bull unit.

Here's my question:
Aside from the obvious magical sources like Tyrants, butchers and firebellys, where else can the Ogres get magic attacks from? Are there any potential dangers to my ethereal units I'm over looking?

He might take Yettie's if he knows you are playing VC, but other than that your main concern is probably fireballs, he might not take your spirit hosts as concern, but it could wreck your expensive hexwraiths.

You can't take four bases at 2k, i believe. You can take 3 duplicates (I think) below a 3k (or Grand Army) list.

correct

Also, If you take only 1 base it will pop quite quickly if you don't win any of the combats. 2 bases makes more sense for more attacks and wounds to give to instability.

1 Spirit base against an Ironblaster, Thundertusk, Stonehorn, or Giant will never pop. If he charges you, you lose one wound then that's it. As long as you can keep other stuff from joining the fight, they don't have any static CR.

I play OK often. They have some mean cutlery. Beware of yeties, magical attacks and reduces ws with 1, hence autohit against zombies. They hate ethereals, but i think you might be going too much all in. Sounds fun though. If he don't see it comming he might be in trouble. My opponent allways brings a ruby ring of ruin besides his caster. In my oppinion hexwraiths die way too quickly. And i run either hosts or wraiths/banshees (character) as blocking units. Moving them out when something they can tie up comes too close ie thundertusk, cannon, mournfang ect.

But try it out, sounds fun. I really like themed armies. And do post the outcome!! Thumbs Up

Cheers
