Asur vampyris

Hello there carpe noctem,
Long time lurker first time poster. with the release of our favorites on the way i have decided to start up my VC again. having already done a strigoi army a few years ago i decided to go slightly different direction this time.
Army will have few gouhls and focus on mainly skeletons as core and headed by asur stylized vampires.
enough of the chatter will show off a few pics for you now.

RE: Asur vampyris

Great use of a high elf there. The only good high elf is a dead on! wink One suggestion though: try a nice subtle wash of devlan mud on the skeletons and maybe one as well on the wraith. It'll really help unify the bits a bit and it'll help it "pop" more. Aside from that, looking good so far bud!

RE: Asur vampyris

Thank you for kind words and advice smile
not much has been done on the painting front except getting 20 skeletons to base coat standard as shown above. but i have done another conversion here for second vampire.

Please ignore the painted bottom half was from when it was a high elf. and also ignore the flat section of the top of the head, i plan to green stuff a head of hair on this one.
In keepiung with the theme i was thinking of using high elf war lions as dire wolves since i have 4 of them lying around. if anyone has any idea how i can gore them up a little i would be for ever in your debt.

thank you for any comments you may have. and just qucik question. what does the community think would be best boxes to buy to mix with zombies? im considering getting 1xzombie and 1x men at arms tomorrow...but not sure if flaggelants would be better or something else entirely.

RE: Asur vampyris

Personally I think flagellents would be better as Ghouls, so probably men at arms.

I like the conversions done so far, very unique. I agree with Redarmy, a few washes will really help with blending the different layers together.

Disciple of Nagash, the perverted master,
The more you struggle, the more he goes faster.
Give him breast, and give him bust,
The more you give the more he thrusts.
And as you all shall soon see, there is nothing that he will not conceive
Whether dark or whether weird, its guaranteed to make you real
But in the end we all see, he is the forum master and perverted seed.

Skeletons aren't 100% done yet. Im still deciding what wash to add. Devlan is way too brown for what I want with this army so thinking maybe black wash again.
What do you guys think?

Conversions are looking great. Your army will have a ton of character that way which will really make the game fun for you. Keep up the great work.

Black will probably be better, but then devlan isn't that bad, it doesn't make it go that brown, but is good for making garments look grubby like the undead should look cheesygrin

Sepia makes a good bone wash, gives it a lighter feeling to the bone. I personally prefer a mud wash over bleached bone for my skeles.

I love what I see so far, can't wait to see even more painted. The coloring and shading and highlighting makes my day that much brighter!

Great job!

RE: Asur vampyris

Small update, i got a little bored painting skeletons so i slapped a little on my lich. nothing fantastic, still trying to steady my shaky hand after a good 18months and no painting.

I plan to come back to the metalic areas but i should stop spending time on him and keep going with my other 50 skeletons sad

Its a shame his highlights have washed out in image, they look atleaast a fair bit more pronounced in life

Thanks guys

Hey Nightmare,

Some really great work here! I really like the purple on your wraith, and the Vampire conversions are very creative and look fantastic!

Nice use of the Tzeentch sorcerer as a lich-inspired Necromancer. It looks really nice, and you did a great job painting it!

Looking forward to seeing more by you!

Wow! I love the Liche! He looks fantastic! One tidbit, add some subtle highlights to the tips of his staff. It'll help it really pop. Great job!

Very nice. Some great conversions too. Am I right in thinking High Elf, Dark Elf and possibly some Dark Eldar?

High elf, dark elf, demonette And skaven about all the pieces I have used. Oh and a space wolf power sword

Your army looks great so far, especially the conversions. I like the tzeench sorcerer/lich, looks like he'd be about 7 feet tall in real life. Very imposing.

And of course the Dragon Princes make great blood dragons. But they make a lot more sense in your army than in most others!

Very curious to see how the sculpted hair is going to look on the bald guy.

I did a quick mock up with hair on a spare head. First attempt at green stuff work besides fur which was so easy compared to this. Will probably come back to it at a much later stage.
I have plenty of core to paint anyway.
I'm going for a vlad style hair do
