RE: Awesome vampire movies

The movie I always go to first is the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula with Gary Oldman who is a damn chameleon and just a damn dezl actor. I always think of this one because there are just so many things that now click in my head as something in regards to Vampire Counts. Dracula looks like a Blood Dragon, Von Carstein and Strigoi through out the movie, the black coach, the wolves, bats, rats, etc. There is also quality story, violence, sexual content, etc., goodness for the most part.

RE: Awesome vampire movies

The Hammer vampire movies have always been my favorites

Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter (1974)
Countess Dracula (1971)
The Vampire Lovers (1970)
Horror of Dracula (1958)
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (1968)

Near Dark (1987) is pretty good and I would highly recommend it as well.

RE: Awesome vampire movies

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, I know the original is classic and something to watch as well, but Bloodlust has a lot of things over the original and one of my favorite vampires.

The Satanic Rites of Dracula by Hammer was pretty good, Christopher Lee is quality, unfortunately no one will seemingly live up to Lugosi.

@HairyJeff: There is also a version of the movie with Type O Negative as the soundtrack playing during the movie if you like that type of music.

Not a big movie buff, but I did enjoy "Interview with a Vampire".

RE: Awesome vampire movies

lost boys is probs my fav vampire film lost boys 2 isnt very good but i enjoyed the 3rd one. The old hammer films with Christopher Lee i always think worthy of a watch and yeah i agree with bahamutzer0 about the 1992 Dracula with Gary Oldman as it does make me think very much of the vampire counts however my only problem with that film is keanu reeves hes so bad

I wish I could help you but my hands are tied. Oh wait that was last night wink Barney Stinson

RE: Awesome vampire movies

All the good ones already mentioned. I like 'Blade' with Wesley Snipes for the action sequences too. A couple of other half decent Hammer offerings were Dracula 1972 a.d. and Vampire Circus. It's been a few years since I've seen either but they were scarey when I was younger Scared

RE: Awesome vampire movies

Some good suggestions here already. For something quite different 'Let Me In' is a great movie featuring a little girl who is a vampire (Hit Girl from Kickass) that makes friends with a young boy who is being bullied at school. It's more mature than the action oriented vampire flicks but is very good and highly recommended (there is also a foriegn language version (Swedish maybe?) called 'Let the right one in'.

Also Blade 1, 2, 3, Interview with the Vampire, 30 Days of Night, Dracula with Keanu Reaves, Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, Monica Belluci (topless surprised), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (movie not really related to the TV show), Dracula Dead and Loving It (Leslie Nielsen-Funny), Undeworld series 1, 2, 3 (4 is upcoming I believe), Blood: The Last Vampire (anime), Vampie Hunter D (anime), then TV shows True Blood and The Vampire Diaries are both okay.

Yes, Let Me In is the american remake of the swedish Låt den rätte komma in. I have only seen the swedish version, as I am not a big fan of remakes, and I like that one.
Like others I ejoyed Interview with a vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula starring Gary Oldman.

Others i kinda like is Shadow of the Vampire, Vampire's Kiss and Vampire Journals. Then there are tons of old dracula movies that are good but often pretty slow paced.

I dislike the action-vampire movies like Blade and 30 days of night... I mean I can watch them if I want 90 min of braindead action and that can be entertaining but for me they do not qualify as good movies.

eek HERESY cheesygrin

On a more serious note. I really like the series "Being Human" about a vampire and some other mythical creatures trying to live normally in modern society.

I also just have to recommend the Norwegian zombie film Død snø (in English: Dead Snow). It had been appointed as the best Norwegian Nazi-Zombie-Splatter-Film ever! cheesygrin
