personaly what i would do depending on how many of these models you are going to need is get a casting kit from a hobby store and cast your own after all your doing the bulk of the armor your self.
so far stuff is looking nice.
Let falling boxes fall especially if they are not your stuff =P
are you talking of casting this model? this is my Wight lord, I only need one unless it turns out really well and some people like him I could try and find out how to do that). The rest of the army is goign to be bare skeletons with just details added on to make them arabian.
Anyway, it's a good tip for when working on the r&f and I suddenly need alot of something. Thanks :thumb:
it might be a good idea to cast some parts of the model, even just the helmet, so you can put it on your grave guard to link all of them together with the common theme of awesome hats!

You have no idea how close I was to quiting the warhammer forums with all of your pathetic doom saying and whining about GW profits. Honestly, im still pretty close...
that's quite a cool idea actually. I'm thinking maybe I should do that before I complete the whole helmet, so the grave guard have slightly "lesser" helmets... does anyone know of a good way to cast small detail 3D stuff? (I'll be casting the whole head then)
you can use a cast kit and make a 2 part mold or you can make one outa green stuff., just google search how to make a 2 part mold...ill post a link later about to run out the door

Good stuff Josef. I agree all the work you've put into this shouldn't be wasted because you got burned out on making that fine figure. Unless your a professional with all the time in the world then I wouldn't try making the molds.

so have you made any progress?
how is the mould coming along?

@ Ironlord (and the rest): I'm afraid I haven't done any sculpting the last 2 weeks as I'm very busy with my finals an' all but I promise some progress after next week wednesday the latest as that will be the last day of the schoolyear!
@ Josef: Thanks for tutorial! I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna do this but that's certainly an educative one. I've also been looking at how Von Kerryathe made his shields which seems also awfully easy to do and is maybe a bit more handy for small bits. Anyway, time to figure that out after this weekend.
In the meantime:
This arrived in the mail this morning! wohow! plus there were 6 extra skellies in the regiment box!
So this is what my undead amount to at the moment
And this is The Boy. I found him in my bitzbox and thought he was a cool addition to the army. he will be the pet of my vampire and will have no gaming purpose whatsoever (I will arabia him up a bit)
I will disconnect one of the heads of the skellies and try to sculpt some sort of turban around it to make a mold from also, and maybe an arabian style helmet too.
I do have a favour to ask: I'm looking for loads of those scimitar-arms from the 6th edition skelleton box. Is there anyone around here who has some spare? (I will put this in trade also)
Might as well ask if anyone still has some spare ghoul arms lying around.
What?! no VC player has skellie arms? or ghoul arms? (If you read this: Strangerben, your PM function is toggled off so I can't reply to your offer)
Anyway, I'll get updating then I guess. Nothing much for now but in the spare hour I found today I tried sculpting some turbans and I'm actually quite happy how they turned out! And they ar infact So easy to make I won't bother making a mold for them as I'll only use more GS that way.
I like the tulband. Maybe it would be nice to add some shoulder armor or something, to add more 'balance' to the model. (might make his head a bit smaller in comparison)
Btw, if you like, you could convert a Jinn/Geni/.. (you know, some kind of arabian spirit) to use as spirit host. Just an idea
I'm also thinking themed corpse carts and the like at the moment, just trying to figure out how I can make some unique units and make the whole arabian fleet look stand out more. Think I'm going to be basing the models on planks and mebbe a small vessel on wheels as corpse cart but I'm not certain about any other units than the skellies atm.

if you have the monsters and mercenaries collectors guide there is an arabic themed army which features a bunch of ideas that might be useful
btw have you thought about throwing a cheeky fez in there now and again, it will probably work best on a zombie...

I have thought about that but I'd have to see what effect it will have. I'd need a comic relief model for that and I won't be taking zombies so that's the obvious option down. I guess The Boy will have it then
EDIT:Update time as I couldn't work on my finals this evening so I put on Octopussy and did a bit of work on my skellies in the meantime. Nothing beats getting into the "badguys-vibe" than watching movies where arab guy with funky weaponry work together with russian terrorrist who have horrible german accents for some reason. (I really think when starting these films they draw cards at random from the "villain" pile to define who'll be the badguy this time :p)
Anyway, on to my undead arabs!
The first 3 test paints!
I know they don't have much colour but I think I quite like it, gives a nice ancient and dusty feel. I think I will define command groups by giving them more red and gold tints. Oh, and they all have grave markings on their head from when they we're buried in their mass grave.
WIP shot of my black knights champion, he has a sash at the moment and his horse has a used-to-be-sadle-cloth-thingie. Still looking for some cool headdress and a bit of armour to equip him with.
I love the bandages, they are very well done, however I think they need to be finished in a lighter colour. A light brush of bleached bone should look the part.

sorry DoN but i dont think so, they look fine as they are, giving them a bleached bone highlight will just make it look to much like the bone
maybe if you mixed some bleached bone into the last highlight like snakebight leather (i havent used that colour in ages) it might work
great update, whats the next steps? more skellies?
i think i may know why your not taking zombies, but,why no zombies?

@ DoN: I agree with Ironlord here with good reason. Did the turbans like you said in bleached bone first but it just made the models look unfinished as they were pretty much completely the same colour so I repainted them giving them a nice dirty brown look like acnient rags that have dried and dusted for centuries in a tomb (well that's the feel I'm trying to achieve anyway) I have been thinking of mebbe starting from shadow grey for those rags but haven't tried it yet.
@ Ironlord: The next step will probably be a more finished version of that horseman and hopefully some progress on the Wight Lord. I won't be painting more skellies atm as the small box set I got only had 4 scimitar arms and I have 18 footsloggers who need 'em so they'll have to await their colours untill I get more swords.
The reason I don't take zombies is because I never actually liked them, they were actually the reason I thought I'd never get into undead and they will break the theme I'm going for here.
I have jury for my finals wednesday and thursday which means I have 3 days left to finish everything for school + my most used paints have run out and so has my glue which means I need to restock so I guess next update will probably only be somewhere around next weekend
