Clan DeathClaw

Inspired by Malochai, I have decided to create an independant thread for my skaven, seperate from my VC plog that they have been piggy backing on.

Clan Deathclaw's is a highly militarised Warlord Clan under the control of Nithek Deathclaw, a skaven Warlord who is a highly skilled fighter and general, who is utterly ruthless and willing to do anything for his own personal benefit. He knows how to play the game as well as any other skaven, but backs it all up with military power and the threat of force. It all began when Nithek was a mere stormvermin, a member of Clan Skurvy, which is a largely sea based piratical clan based under the city of Tobaro in Tilea. Nithek fought in many of the Clans bloodiest bording actions and battles, until he rose to the position of Fangleader amongst the pack of stormvermin he was part of (After the existing Fangleader accidentally slipped and impaled himself on his halberd).

As a fangleader, Nithek was in an elite position amongst the clan, but still did not have what he truly desired- he still had to obey another, the Chieftan-Captain who commanded the ship he and his stormvermin lived and fought on, and above that was the Clans Warlord. After a while as a Fangleader, Nithek seized the oppertunity to seize control of the rikkety Clan Skurvy vessel after the Chieftan-Captain of the vessel accidentally fell overboard and drowned (which was strange seeing as how the captain was in his cabin at the time).

With control of his own vessel, Nithek and his stormvermin bullied, coerced and convinced the crew of the vessel to strike out on their own- no longer would they answer to the Warlord of Clan Skurvy. Nithek and his verminous crew raided along the coasts of Tilea and Estalia for a while, seizing slaves and wealth from fat merchant vessels and dissapearing back into cave systems and tunnels that no human vessel could follow into. After a while, Deathclaw grew bored of this, and decided he wanted greater wealth and power. He began raiding the occasional Clan Skurvy ship, seizing more vessels for himself, until he had a small fleet of his own.

At around this time, war erupted between the city-states of Tilea. Nithek took his small fleet and his stormvermin to a hidden cove along the coast, and then approached one of the rich (and more oppertunistic) patrons of one of the city states, offering his services as a mercenary. This man wanted one of his rivals attacked, but couldn't do it openly. So Nithek lead his skaven in several small battles against various groups in Tilea, always getting paid by some morally ambiguous patron or another. As things began to cool down in Tilea, Nithek lead his small mercenary clan into the border princes, still offering their services, this time to various unscrupulous princes. After a while, Clan Deathclaw was large and wealthy enough to be the beginnings of a true warlord clan.

All Clan Deathclaw needed now was a place to settle- Nithek lead his skaven through the tunnels beneath the badlands, emerging at times to fight men or greenskins. With his eyes on the old dwarven hold of Ekrund, which is swarming with greenskins but contains considerable wealth, Nithek instead chose to settle nearby in a deep cave system partially beneath the Marshes of Madness, a cursed place even by skaven standards. His seemingly insane choice lead to Clan Deathclaw being made up of particularly tough skaven, as the weak would always die and get eaten. By continuing to hire his clan out as mercenaries, Nithek has gained considerable wealth and fighting experience for his clan, fighting mostly in the various wars between skaven clans, but sometimes even fighting for the more dubious of the overworlds patrons. His clan is experienced in fighting the undead of the marshes and the greenskins of the badlands, and has gained a somewhat dubious reputation partly due to its location. Madness is far more common than usual amongst Clan Deathclaw, and a strange sect of the Priests Pestilens has emerged amongst the clan, calling them selves Priests of Death instead of Plague, some even rumoured to be practicing necromancy.

So far the army consists of the following:
10 Clanrats
10 Skavenslaves
20 Stormvermin
1 Grey Seer (seer from the screaming bell kit)
1 Warlord (IoB)
1 Warlock (IoB)
1 Rat Ogre Bonebreaker
2 Rat Ogres & Packmaster (IoB)
1 Warpfire Throwwer (IoB)
1 Plague Mortar (IoB)
1 Warp Lightning Cannon

I am thinking of making my VCs zombies also double as skavenslaves....
Will post pics soon.

RE: Clan DeathClaw

Here are some pics of my bonebreaker... all he needs now is a paintjob and something to ride him...
He is made from the following components:
1 IoB rat ogre (procured from ebay)
Daemon prince armour plates (chaos symbols scraped of)
4 skaven clanrat shields
Daemon Prince Trophy Racks
Back Banner from the IoB chieftan/warlord (I didn't like my chieftan having such a big back banner anyway)

For my warlord, Nithek Deathclaw himself, I am waiting for this mini to go finecast: (I put in a link as linking pictures from GW is incredibly difficult to do)
Warlord Spinetail
I am probably going to make him detachable from his base so I can switch him between being on foot, on a war litter and on the bonebreaker at will.
