Clan Virilus

I know, I know....

Questions:
Where have I been? What happened to the demons I started? When are you going to get back to Vampire counts? How excited are you that Tomb kings are on the way?

Answers:
Skaven
Skaven
Skaven
A little too excited for my wallet to take - Yep... It just jumped out the window.

This is what I have been up to for the past 4 months:

It started with The Island of Blood and so quickly spiralled out of control. I now have so many miniatures to paint and I have told myself that I will not buy a single tomb king model until this army is painted. I have more miniatures for this army that are still in boxes but I will not be buying any more to add for the time being. I wanted to start a new topic here as your comments and criticisms always encourage me to push on despite the overwhelming numbers of the forces I attempt.

Close ups upon completion.

See you all soon.

RE: Clan Virilus

@Malochai: Indeed there is a dreaded a-bom in the mix. Probably going to be a while before we see that monstrosity painted. I have no real desire to tackle it at this point.

@Cuzzy: Or you can ignore what the sheep are doing and do your own thing. Exclaiming frequently to anyone who will listen about how superior you are for not falling to the latest craze.

@Nikostratus: Yes Clan Virilus are a thrall clan of Clan Pestilens as far as colour scheme I would say... Dirty, rusty, green.

@Count Lasombra: Sound advice.

Keep in mind that I am saving base flocking and banner freehand for the very end; here are some (nearly) completed minis for your viewing pleasure.

Plaguelord Ratatosk
[Image: DSCF0364.jpg]
My first completed conversion for the army. Still a little more painting to do here and there.

Chieftain Warptongue
[Image: DSCF0363.jpg]
Not actually in my army list right now but I love the model and it was the first thing painted up when I bought IOB

Plague Priest Typhus mounted upon his mighty Plague Furnace being pushed along by the frenzied mob of Plague Monks. (Overuse of the word plague in this army list is already starting to bother me).
This unit is getting increased by 31 plague-monks as soon as I finish building them.

Skabtails Clawpack
[Image: DSCF0359.jpg]
This is getting a ten rat boost shortly. (Edit: Just noticed that the rat on the banner pole has not been painted... oops)

Great stuff! I love the muddied Templar shield on the back of your War Litter. It really makes me that the whole thing has been cobbled together from trash-pickings. How wonderfully Skaven-like! smile

Great to see you back Seth - it has certainly been a while and I have missed seeing your works! Just because its not VC doesn't mean we don't love seeing it.

I must admit that amount of models is daunting, I would be terrified faced by that lot cheesygrin Still so far it is look really good, I see your ethereal effect has adapted well to warpstone flames as well cheesygrin

It's like a signature.

This evening was spent making movement trays (those seen previous to this post were all borrowed from my other armies). Nothing incredibly exciting to see. Chopping up baking trays and GW Modular Movement Tray kits. Some bloody fingers and a great deal of mess.

Getting the army mobile is more important than getting it fully painted at the moment. You will see later why movement trays are so crucial to my plans.

Well St. Patrick's day called for the consumption of vast quantities of Guinness and the day to sleep walk it off is now over. It's back to the painting table and today I have decided to make a weekend pledge. By tomorrow night I need to have one unit of PlagueMonks and an Assassin painted.

Wish me luck!

Looking good, I really like the 'dirty' feel you got going on. Of late I've seen all to many lovely, shiny skaven and it's a nice change to have something a little more grimey!

Do you have any trouble ranking up that IOB Warlord? I had to elevate him to keep him from hitting the rats around him.
Your making modular magnetic movement trays? is that what the baking pans are for?

RE: Clan Virilus

Dirty starts from the base coat. Here you can see my Monks with their brown base my assassin however is starting from a dark blue base (Something that should make him stand out as a truly unique element in the finished force).

I've always built my armies big. Even before the Horde rule was ever thought up. So I have always made magnetized movement trays and bases. It really is the only way to make an army of this size work.

As far as ranking up the chieftain as I say... I have never actually attempted it. He is not in my army list at all at the moment. He has no name or purpose in my grand scheme but I will slip him in somewhere I am sure. He fits rather well in my clanrat horde at this time... There are clanrats that are small enough to fit beside him in the island of blood box (very few but a couple). But you really need to build the unit around him from the start to make sure everything fits properly.

Tell that to my half painted Vampires, Daemons, High Elves and Bretonians. I have only ever finished one army. My 10 year old Tomb Kings army. Which has never been seen on these pages (I was basically a child at the time, style and quality .... well there wasn't any).

I am sorry for the lack of updates. No excuses, just too busy. Back soon!

I know that there doesn't seem to be a great amount of progress here... But I am happy.

Little touches have been added, units have been properly formed and mobility is less of a problem.

I'm going to attempt to make updates a more regular occurrence.

I currently have a maille project on the go that is nearing completion so I will have more free time on my hands soon.

I sadly didn't make my May deadline and so I must resist the urge to add new shinys to my tomb kings army for a while longer.
