Hey people of the crypt cheesygrin! ive got an idea for a new character im using this guy a lot not in rules but by name he's the lord of my army and the main character in one of my stories, so its about time i thought of some rules so here we go:

Count Volgoroth von Crarck- 495pts

movement- 6
weapon skill- 7
Ballistic skill- 4
Strength- 5
Toughness- 5
Wounds- 5
Attacks- 5
Initianitive- 9
Leadership- 10


Special Rules

Aura of Terror
Undead
Vampire
Serpent play

Equipment and armour

Sword of souls
Gem of unlife
Armour of the grave

Aura of Terror

Volgoroth is intelligent and deceptive those who
face him can fall under his trap of terror reducing brave warriors into shaking husks.
During the first round of combat enemies within 6" of
Volgoroth must take a leadership test, for the ammount of points the test is lost by the models lose that amount of weapon skill to a minimum of 1.

Serpent play
Volgoroth is as quick to act as he is to attack.
Roll a D6 on a 4 or more Volgoroth gains +1 WS and Attacks if he or his unit has just been charged at.

Sword of souls
Many warriors have been trapped inside Volgoroths sword as it eats their souls.
After each round of combat roll a D6 on a 4 1 model in Volgoroths unit(or himself but only upto his maximum ammount of wounds) is ressurected on a 5 two models are ressurected on a 6 three models are ressurected.

Gem of unlife- One use only
If Volgoroth is on his own he may restore his wounds using the gem of unlife. after any phase that you choose roll a D6 on a 3,4,5,6 Volgoroth gains all his wounds back.

Armour of the grave
Volgoroths armour is centuries old yet toughenned by dark magic Volgoroth gains a 2+ save from the amrour.

Interesting .. but you need to state to a minimum of 1 so that the model does not die outright with a 0 skill.

Also, it is really not that different from Terror (wich drops them staight to WS 1). Really the only difference is the range so why not just lable it "Aura of Terror" and have models within 6" take a terror test ...

To be honest his stats seem a bit much. When making named characters it is easy to get a bit carried away. It is best to stick to the standard template and allow yourself two increases on stats, eg, +1WS and +1I or +2S. That was they are a bit better but not too powerful.

I like your rules and items for him. They seem quite balanced. Overall I like him. Fix his stats and drop his points and you have yourself a well balanced and interesting character.

From a game balance perspective, I personally think 5 Wounds on his profile is 2 more than he should have. That is equal to Mannfred with the armour of Tempelhof, which is a pretty unique item as far as the rules go.
Combined with these 5 wounds, you also give him two sets of special rules/items which allows him pretty impressive "regeneration" properties.. Remember that most other Lords/Heroes simply can't do more wounds on him then they have attacks in a single round of close combat, and as long as you place him in a large enough unit, he becomes almost unkillable as he won't flee.

There is also the issue of the 8.ed Vampire Lore rule (assuming you intend for him to be used in 8.ed), as well s the Hunger special rule which also both significantly improve his odds of survival...
If I intended him for 8 ed, I'd change his "powers" to more offensive ones, so not to have 3-4 ways of healing himself, hence creating an "unkillable" Vampire Lord. Nobody really wants that in the end, not even you as a VC player.
