I know I am not the finest wordsmith around, but there are times when I listen to the radio and die a little inside. To quote Tommy Lee, "It's covered in wrong-sauce."

My top two nominations for cringe-worthiness I give you:
"crème de la crop" from Katy Perry's "If You Can Afford Me"
"gets me overwhelmed" from One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful"

Not two songs I'd go out of my way to hear, but they get on high rotation and become inescapable.

Does anyone else have particular song lyrics that grate like proverbial fingernails on chalkboards?

Yeah, pretty much any hip hop and rap. The way they make up words, modify words etc to rhyme just bugs me beyond all belief.

Actually, you can get away with doing Metallica lyrics as straight poetry... I did 'Ride the Lightning' and got through to the semi-finals, despite my teacher being the director of studies at a particularly traditionalist private school...

You may not ( luckily ) remember, but years back, a group called Black Lace had a song called Agadoo.
Agadoo, do, do
buy pine-apple, shake a tree.....
it only got worse. Unfortunately, my sister, then 6, loved it. But the song burnt into my brain, and even now, I can't get rid of it's inane gibberish.

My niece to this day loves this song and insists on playing it, singing it, dancing to it. I may be an undead Vampire Lord bent on the destruction of humanity but she has me wrapped around her little finger. One day I will tell her I hate that song.

I can't believe that I had to listen to this crap during my morning show this am... it's an alternative station for crying out loud!





This were making fun of it... but still! I heard it more then I wanted too! (which is too say that I heard it at all)
