Great start so far. I really like the conversion you did the spears on the skeletons. What colors are you planning on painting your undead troops?

I like how they are going so far, how many are you thinking of having in a unit?

Thanks for the comments!
I am planning to give the army a red/black theme. The clothing will be red and the armor dark/black. Furthermore, I'm planning to make it a unit of 40 spears.

I really like how you positioned them all.

A vampire after my own soul I run a red and black vampire army myself called the dragon legion. I feel they are the best vampire colors out there.

Hey all,

Finally finished the skeletons (only blades left to finish). Here are the pictures.

Any thoughts on painting the blades black/very dark? I consider chaos black and chainmail lining, but it might be to not-metal like. Furthermore I have to wait for my grave guard box to arive for the banner.

Comment please,

Cheers

Very nice paint job, loving the bone. Mind sharing the recipe there?

As for the blades, I'd not go chaos black on them, bur if you want them darker, try boltgun metal and wash it with badab black, as many times as it takes until you're satisfied. Experiment on a non-attatched blade though wink

Thanks for the tip, will give it a try soon.
The bone recipe is: charadon granite, dheneb stone, devlan mud, bleached bone, bleached bone : skull white 2:3. Good luck with it!

Those are some fantastic looking skellies, what did you use for the shields and spears? Are the shields dark elf?

Just when I think I've seen too many red/black colour schemes tongue It's looking good, paint the rest of the army to that quality and you're well away!

Looking good so far my friend! If everything is painted to the same standard as your skellies, you're going to have one kick-ass looking army!!! Best of luck!

RE: Cyriae's Vampire Counts

Finished three test models today. I am not yet sure which one to use for the rest of the unit. The one on the left is red/silver armor with black clothing, the middle one is red/gold armor and the right one is washed boltgunmetal with red clothing (not dried yet, had to go). The fastest ond is thr right one, simply washing saves a lot of time. However, I also like the red/silver one.

What are your opinions?

RE: Cyriae's Vampire Counts - grave guard test models

My favourite is the one on the left, but knowing damn well how long it can take to paint a unit, the practical choice is the one on the right. The one in the middle I'm indifferent towards; doesn't do anything for me.

SO... if it's a small or medium sized unit and you're prepared to spend the time, I'd totally go with the left model. If it's a large unit or you want your army to be table-top worthy quickly, go with the wash-option on the right.

RE: Cyriae's Vampire Counts - grave guard test models

Really? I rather liked the one to the right the most TBH. I think also, having the red cloth ties more with the skeletons you painted before, although having the armor red makes them stand out more, and GG are one of our elite (Though usually staple) pieces of our army.

I would suggest that you do the 'Right' guy with the addition that you paint the pauldrons (Shoulder parts) red & the wing flap on the helm. Obviously with the studded one would have the studs painted silver over the red. But yeah that's what I'd suggest.

OR paint the unit itself like the GG on the right, and the COMMAND ONLY in the scheme to the left; the unit will tie in with the skeletons and such, and the command will tie in to the unit, but still stand out and look so...well..."commandish"!
