I really like the way you've painted the skin on your Vlad. If thats the first character you've done, well done. Looking forward to seeing some bigger pictures.

Welcome aboard! It is always great to have another person joining "The Dark Art".

I would love to see better pics. It looks like you are using a flash which washes out colors.

I understand it was your mobile phone, but you might get good pics with bright lighting and some way to steady the phone, i.e. the use of a timer and a bag of dried beans.

RE: Desfer's Painting log

Posted this photo just to show my idea for the base. Varghulf's skin needs some shading and highlighting, i have to say its a bit difficult for me with so dark colours but ill try it, i ve already started it and will see how it ll go.

RE: Desfer's Painting log Updated 10-09-2010

thanks Nikostratus, thank you very much! i rly appreciate that you keep checking my plog. Well i am not satisfied with the varghulf so i ll try some highlights, not sure how to do that since its skin is so dark. I am thinking using a hard drybrush with a dark grey colour a bit lighter than varghulf's skin, then a softer drybrush with an even lighter grey colour. In the end i lll highlight some edges and fix his eyes a bit. Hope this works. Currently i am painting Caradryan, for my friends high elves and will try to finish that zombie filler

Hey there Desfer, been looking through your plog just now I your work is looking pretty good. smile That unitfiller is awesome!

On the highlight on the skin of your dark varghulf, don't drybrush, take you time with various stages of greys instead.

Is it all black or a dark grey? I have a hard time seeing from the photo, my monitor is pretty bad. wink

Thank you for your comment grin Varghulf's skin is a dark grey, hehe i dont think its your monitor, the photos are not very good since they are taken with a low quality mobile phone-camer... my brother thought that our digital camera was waterproof, too bad it wasnt sad I ll follow your advice, thanks a lot cheesygrin

RE: Desfer's Painting log Updated 10-09-2010

Very cool minis you got there. Especially for a beginner (if I got that right) you are quite talented. What was very eye-catching is the gore on your ghouls, I love that. Nothing is better then fresh blood dripping from your teeth... oh well, Im wandering from the subject. wink

One suggestion though: Try to use matte varnish on your minis. They look a little glossy on the pictures and varnish would not only solve that problem but also make the paint a little more resilient. Of course only apply the matte varnish to the areas you dont want to be glossy, leave the gore as it is!!!

Also I cant wait to see that unit filler painted. A zombie walking his dog is just brilliant. Noone can say zombies have no brains, at least they know what their pets need. cheesygrin

Keep the pics coming.

Cheers, Dogmar

RE: Desfer's Painting log Updated 10-09-2010

thank you dogmar for your kind words Yes, you could say i am a begginer, i started collecting and painting 4 years ago but couldnt spend much time to the hobby. The past 2 years i am trying to find some time and paint my minis but still i am a bit bussy or tired neutral. Anyway, i am trying to learn new technics when i can and improve what i already know. A week ago i bought 2 bottles of varnish, a gloss and a matte, havent used any of them yet. I think the reason that they look glossy is due to the bad lightning and the flash i used on the first 2 photos. i ll try to fix that. I am glad you guys liked the unit filler, i have an idea that could make it even more funny when i paint it, maybe you can imagine what it is. Its the reason i placed that tombstone tongue

RE: Desfer's Painting log Updated 10-09-2010

hey... Im sorry I called you a beginner. I kind of missed the part where you said you started 4 years ago and I thought I'd read you were new in one of the responses. My brain seems to mess things up from time to time, so please apologize.

Of course you're right, you never stop learning. That's a good mindset.

Im curious to see the unit filler finished. Will the dog be chewing on an arm that reaches out of the grave or something? cheesygrin

hehe no worries, as i said you could say i am a begginer, having the models but not painting them doesnt count tongue Also, i started using blending ,highlighting technics and some new things like shadowing without washes/inks about a month ago. I am still a newb cheesygrin. As for the filler, i ll keep it secret for now tongue try to guess if you want, i am sure someone will find it Twisted
