First Post, First list ever!

Hey everyone. I am new to these particular forums and also new to warhammer fantasy. I've been playing 40k for about 5 years now and although there are some things I like about it, the game has a way of being very easy to take advantage of and make those super cheese lists. I have now decided to get in to fantasy in the hopes of finding a bit more balance to the game. Over the holidays I had acquired some Vampire models and with the new book in my hands, I can finally start building some vampire lists. This first list is what I came up with using what models I have so far. I've only got the female vampire lord model,a necro, 30 ghouls, 3 vargheists, (ive already assembled them like this so crypt horrors or sadly out of the question until I get another box,) and a mortis engine. Without further adieu, here's the list:

Lords:
1. Master Necromancer- LV3 (165)

Heroes:
1. Vampire- LV1, forbidden lore, glittering scales, shield, sword of might (179) lore of beasts

Core:
1. ghoulsx29 (10x3) (290)

Special:
1. Vargheistsx3 (138)

rare:
1. Mortis Engine (220)

Now I have yet to play my first game with this list (hell my first fantasy game ever!) I have read the rulebook at least 12 times so far and i think I've got a pretty good handle on most things. I have also looked over our book a great many times but naturally, there is always room for improvement, and things an inexperienced player might easily over look.

The basic idea of this list is to simply revolve things around the ghouls. The master necro will buff the ghouls with some nice spells from the vampire lore while also sustaining them via IoN. The vampire is the extra cc punch they may need and with lore of beasts, she will be casting wildform on them making them S4 T5 ghouls smile The vargheists I plan on using to assault the flank of whatever my ghouls tackle. Mortis engine does the same but sticks back a little bit to be more supportive rather than my pre-determined flanker.

So there you have it. any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. After all, this is all pretty new to me.

You are a bit light on units and the mortis engine is a tad expensive at these points costs, but test the list and see how it goes. You should buy some zombies since they are pretty useful this time around. Nice touch with the beast vamp/ ghoul thing you have going there.

RE: First Post, First list ever!

That was my concern after writing this list too. The only solution I could find to the lack of units is a good ol' casting of raise dead, followed up by an invocation to basically start the game off with a free zombie unit. the clear foreseeable problem with this is that I could potentially not get raise dead at all when I'm selecting spells. Of course, I could drop the mortis engine for some more numbers, but than again, I like the idea of the regen bubble and I expect the engine to be a pretty decent flank charger. Plus it also might help take some heat off the ghouls, being the big intimidating model that it is. either way, it looks to me like I am going to have to do some zombie shopping. Fortunately for me, this forum has shown me the place to get them from. Hooray for mantic games! Not only do I find them more aesthetically pleasing then the GW ones, but you get more for your money. What's not to love?

I am a big fan of the mantic undead range as well. But on to the list

I like the Master Necromancer in this book but this guy does feel a bit naked, if you could find the points a Book of Arkhan would go nicely on him.

Your Vampire have 2 bit of Magic Armour which is a no no. Also I would just go for Lore of Vampires, its a good lore and you're only level 1 so 1 Beasts spell is not going to make much difference. I would rethink what you want this guy to do in your army.

Well, wyssans wildform has a good synergy with ghouls.

RE: First Post, First list ever!

hmmm after closer examination of the rulebook it seems that i cannot take 2 magic armors. I thought you were able to take a magic armor and a magic shield but alas I was wrong. Either way i edited the list and switched the enchanted shield to a mundane one.

When it comes to the vampire, i took the lore of beasts purely for wyssan's wildform to give the ghouls +1 S and T. True that the vampire lore is good, but i see wyssan's wildform being a little more beneficial for this particular list. Now I think I have a way of getting the book of arkhan for the necro by simply removing the sword of might and the shield from the vamp. I am curious to know tho, if i cast wyssan's wildform on the ghouls while the vamp (and necro) are part of the unit, do they too gain the benefits of wyssan's wildform? Because if so, than I may as well do it so that those S4 T5 ghouls will also benefit from consistent re-rolls to hit which is always great for ghouls. I could use some clarification before I make that particular change tho.

Wyssans Wild Form is good, but it's a 10+ and you're level 1 so that is a 3 dice cast at least. It also means you only have 1 Lore of Vampires caster so if he dies then your army crumbles badly. I would rather have 2 goes at Invocation of Nehek every turn.

As for Vanhel's Danse Macabre, it affects the unit so it will affect any characters in the unit as well.
