First army list

Hello, all. Been a member for a while, but this is just my second post. I submit to you the VC list I've drummed up. Didn't receive any input from the greetings forum, so I thought I'd try it here. This is just a 2K list, for use in the local campaign. I'll amp it up to 2500 for GTs this year. I haven't played it yet, and I've never run VC, so this might not be feasible at all. I'm basing the army on GRRM's "The Others". Lots of snow on bases, icicles hanging from arms and armor, pine trees on display board, unit fillers of larger undead creatures...giants, mammoths, etc. All models will have the eldrich blue glow emanating from eyes that the wights are described as having. I'll figure out some sort of conversions for the monstrous troops...I seem to remember something about a wight bear at the Fist of the First Men combat. I'd really like to paint the snow to look like it's under moonlight...maybe a little grayish???

Lord, Lvl. 3 caster, heavy armor, Enchanted Shield (+2 to save), Sword of Bloodshed (+3A), Red Fury, Aura of Dark Majesty, Fear Incarnate
Vamp, Lvl. 2 caster, Armor of Silvered Steel (2+ armor save), extra hand weapon
Wight King, BSB, shield
Wraith
60 Zombies
60 Zombies
30 Zombies
36 Skeletons, spears
6 Direwolves
4 Crypt Horrors, champion
3 Vargheists, champion
Varghulf

Basically, combat centered. All 4 characters in the skeleton horde. The two combat-heavy vamps and WK will add some punch to a ton of spear attacks, lots of zombies to just tie things up with, special and rare choices to do a little extra damage. This list comes out to 2010, I think, so I'll have to drop a couple points somewhere.

RE: First army list

Hey there Sanbaba,

I really like the idea of using GRRM's "Others" as a basis for an army, I think that will look really cool and have a unique feel. Maybe add in some Grave Guard to get some more Wights, and maybe you could do an undead mammoth as a counts as Terrorgheist or something.

From an gaming standpoint I would really suggest getting a ward save on your lord, as a 3+ armor save may fail you versus other characters, elite infantry, miscasts, etc. Maybe drop down to the two attack sword? I would personally downgrade the hero vampire to a hero necromancer (level 2) to free up some points as well.

I would also recommend taking some Grave Guard (maybe drop some zombies to free up points) to add some more punch. Spirit hosts also function really well to hold up units if you are looking for something a bit more specialized than zombies. As for Crypt Horrors, I personally would run them in at least a group of six, so they can gain a rank bonus, still get all their MI attacks, and be a bit more durable.

Not sure if that's any help, but giving it a brief look over those would be my suggestions.
