First attempt at a Kemmler/Krell list

This is my first go at using the Kemmler and Krell combo in a list.

Lords
- Heinrich Kemmler -

Heroes
- Krell -
- Necromancer, lvl 2, Scroll, Book of Arkhan -

Core
- 30 Skeletons, FC, Screaming Banner -
- 40 Zombies, Banner -
- 30 Ghouls -

Special
- 20 Grave Guard, GW's, FC, Banner of Barrows -
- Corpse Cart, Balefire -

Rare
- Mortis Engine, Tome -

Sticking with the rule of trying to control 3/4 of the phases the general ideal is the list can cast Vanhels and IoN twice a turn with a +2 to cast rolls from the Tome. And effective +2 to dispells (+1 from Kemmler and -1 to casting from the CC) to aid in control of the magic phase. Also an early raise dead if the dice are there to get a new Zombie unit started for redirects. Thats Movement and Magic covered.

For combat Krell rides along with the Grave Guard and Kemmler either by his side or in the skeletons (using fly to move as needed). Skeletons and Zombie units to hold things in place while the GG and Ghouls aim to hit the flanks.

RE: First attempt at a Kemmler/Krell list

Had my first game with this list today. Pulled out a draw against a Warriors of Chaos list. He was running something along the lines of...

Lord with killy upgrades
2 Sorcs lvl 2's - 1 tzentch and 1 nurgle
Unit of extra hand weapon Khorn warriors (with the lord)
Units of Hablerd Nurgle warriors
Units of Tzeentch Marauders#
1 Chaos Giant

He managed to sneak pandamonium off twice and I forgot it twice rolling 4 as one of my two miscasts east time (thanks tome).

Wasnt too impressed with the grave guard just falling apart after they took a charge from the Lord and Khorn warriors. Though that said Krell stepped up and layed a single wound on the Lord with the Black axe before crumble ate the whole units.

Magic was pretty poor for both sides through the whole game but between the two casters and the +2 from Tome i reliable got most spells off on 2 dice. Raising 2 fresh zombie units early on as misdirectors (one of which later grew to being 40 strong) worked wonders to control the field.

Kemmlers fly ability gave him much needed manourverability and he didint take a single wound while buffing the whole army from various angles.

While I had 25 points spare and thought the screaming banner would be good to use them up I've noticed pretty much everyone locally plays armys not effected by fear so I've decided to drop it along with 5 ghouls so squeeze the points for 2 bat swarms. These can then run along side the Grave Guard to assist with them dishing out the damage first.

New list to look like...

Heinrich Kemmler -

Krell
Necromancer, lvl 2, Scroll, Book of Arkhan -

30 Skeletons, FC -
40 Zombies, Banner -
25 Ghouls -

20 Grave Guard, GW's, FC, Banner of Barrows -
Corpse Cart Balefire -
2 Bat Swarms -

Mortis Engine, Tome -

RE: First attempt at a Kemmler/Krell list

I've been toying with a Kemmler/KRell list for the upcoming Bloodline War on this site. I am noticing more and more while trying to get as much as possible in to the list that it is near impossible to not have:

Grave Guard
Mortis Engine
Skeleton Core

Now using this as the basis for any army involving these two powerhouses is not a bad thing, the overall points cost of the above units plus the two characters basically dictates a good half/third of the army before looking at reasonable support (such as another Necromancer). This being said in the campaign I'm not allowed Vampire units so it would probably be easier with the whole list but certainly, to maximise on Kemmler/Krell you need the above units to anchor your line.

RE: First attempt at a Kemmler/Krell list

It does indeed feel like your locked into those choices. Unfortunatly with todays game dispite opening up with 11 power dice I managed to get a misscast on my very first spell. From there it really did feel like I needed that first turn of magic to just hold the line and grow my forces a little more.

Big point investment but as far as Krell goes hes definatly worth it. How many heros will step up with a Chaos lord, and in one round of combat effectivly seal his fate.
