Imperial Guard Journal

At the recommendation of another member I decided to a thread dedicated to my Imperial Guard. Here I'll post pictures, battle reports, army lists, and other general discussions regarding the glorious soldiers of the Empire.

To start with, here is my 1750pts list that I play with. It's your standard mechanized IG list. I realize that I have Missile Launchers in this list which aren't as overall effective as Autocannons, but I really like them and I tend to run into a lot of heavier armor.

Love it. Always great to see a fellw IG player. I see you love Grenade Launchers just as much as I do smile
What do you mean missiles aint as effective as autocannons? While they may have less range, they can put a nice big template downrange.
Cannot wait to see more.

After looking at your guard army I need to make the comment Kaaabooooom.

On another note your paint job is nice, look forward to seeing more of them.

If your planning spirit hosts we have a monthly challenge in February that I would love to see what you would do for them.

Just gotta say how much I love the yellow Grenade Launchers and other yellow details. Reminds me of mining equipment on some backwater colony.

RE: Imperial Guard Journal

Lately I've been working on a few more tanks. I have about sixteen assembled and a Baneblade is the works. My goals is to have my 1750pts list painted in the next few months. I have made the decision not to play until my list is painted.

I added the yellow to the models because I believe it ties the army together and makes it look a little more cohesive.

I think overall, Autocannons are more effective, but I tend to face heavier armor and need some way to deal with them at range.

I'll take some more pictures when I get home from work.

RE: Imperial Guard Journal

One thing I gotta question is your inclusion of heavy weapons into infantry squads. I find that heavy weapons are better off placed into heavy weapons squads (of 3 heavy weapons) so they don't slow down your infantry.

RE: Imperial Guard Journal

All of my infantry are in Chimeras, so I really don't have to worry about them being slowed down. The sqauds with Heavy Weapons Teams will mainly be stationary and are there to take out other transports or fast moving units while the PCS and Vets go after objectives.

Aaah okay. Nice to see a fully mechanised force. Just remember that in your average game (spearhead excluded) autocannons will be in range from turn 1.

It's nice to see actual painted guard who aren't just a bunch of veterans in chimeras with 3 plasma guns, a plasma pistol, a lascannon, melta bombs, a demo charge, and a few thousand other pieces of equipment that the emperor was too cheap to give to his "best soldiers"

Sanai Bieber is my spiritual liege. Copy and paste this into your signature if you agree. If not, you will never be an ultramarine.

Well, if Justin Bieber belonged to any chapter, it would be the ultramarines. Of course, the holy inquisition would then be called upon to purge the entire chapter.

The teal text was always me. And mothrafighting me.

You know, now I think of it, I have never seen Zanos and Justin Bieber in the same place at the same time....

RE: Imperial Guard Journal

My miniatures have been packed up for my upcoming move. I have three more tanks painted, two Chimeras and a Hell Hound. After I move and unpack I'll update the thread with more pictures.

In other news I'm going to be parting with my Vampire Counts. I have a large number or unassembled Skeletons, Ghouls, Zombies, Grave Guard, along with some assembled Zombies and Skeletons, a Corpse Cart, Empire Wizards that I will be posting in the trades section.

Interesting list, although why no advisors? Your opponent has to completely change his game style when he has -1 to his reserve rolls grin
How do your devil dogs perform? I haven't heard many other guard armies using them, but I've always wondered if it'd be worth it, I have the model as a banewolf (Its fluffy though, its a nurgle tank :P)
No side sponsons? Never field a Russ without heavy bolters. Then again, my main enemy is tyranids tongue

Nice scheme, the Grenade Launchers come across as very original smile

Whats that behind you?!

I miss my red ranger...

I've considered Advisors but I didn't have room for them in my list. If I dropped all of the Heavy Stubbers I could fit them in but currently the Stubbers are treating me well.

I really like the Devil Dogs. I treat them almost like a Mini Leman Russ. They're fairly good at taking out most transports and they're great at taking out infantry and living to tell about it. The trouble with the Bane Wolf for me is that it's almost a one shot glass cannon and vulnerable to assault.

I like to keep my Battle Tanks cheap. The only tanks I'd consider putting sponsons on would be the Extermintor or the Eradicator. Putting sponsons on any other thank will either dilute the AP of your main weapon or just cost too much.

I'm glad you all like the scheme.

RE: Imperial Guard Journal

I would put sponsons on the punisher (as well as a heavy stubber) for the sheer intimidation of 30+ shots per turn being fired at infantry. I also sponson the leman russ battle tank standard as it makes a great infantry/ light vehicle killer. However this varies from list to list due to the sheer cost of the tanks.

I think the Punisher is probably the most overcosted, under performing tank in the list. An Exterminator or Eradicator will outperform in 99/100 times.

In my opinion, our Heavy Support options need to fill the role of anti heavy infantry. This is especially true for Mechanized Guard. Our troops and transports have anti infantry covered in spades, tanks such as the Demolisher, Executioner, and even the standard Russ excel and taking out heavy infantry at a reasonable cost, and our fast attack choices are great for filling in the gaps.

The old saying for Guard still rings true today.
