Unless the Slaan has some special rules I don't know about, you can't take a magic banner and magic items.

He does indeed have special rules that allow him to take a magic banner and magic items. However, he can't take Magic Armor, so I'm going to have to figure out how to spend those points elsewhere...

RE: Lizardmen 8th edition list

To be honest, I think you are dropping too many points into your frog, and the whole army is suffering because of it. I think you should drop Unfathomable Presence from the Slann - it's useful, but it very situational and you have the powerful defensive magic of the Slann to help you out against ranged spells. Besides, it doesn't protect against most of the more powerful ones, and you'll be able to heal back Wounds on your frog and Temple Guard later on.
I think that two Skink Priests is really overdoing it as well. I would drop both of them, to be honest, but if you are set on running one, drop the Level 1 priest as he serves no real purpose.
With those points, I would bulk up the Temple Guard unit to around 16-20 models and throw the Warbanner on their standard bearer. I would also consider bulking up the Saurus units to 24 each - when supported by a Slann those guys stay around for a while and make a really rock-hard unit. That, and add extra Skinks to the Salamanders as that will allow them to fire another turn or two if you roll some bad misfire dice. grin

Since you're spending alot of points on your Frog, make him more likely to win his points back by making a damage dealer. Give him the Loremaster ability and use either Heavens (if you're into anti-infantry) or Death (if you want a sniper). You can pay a lot less points for an effective support role, but by pumping a lot of points into a Life caster you're relying a lot more on the rest of your army than you would normally.

Lizardmen have one of the best BSBs in the game

Scar Vet
With Cold One hide and a shield

Toughness 6
2+ save
Causes Fear/immune to fear (no big deal I know)
and rerolling the stupidity test is almost impossible.

USE IT!

You can put a 2+ Ward save against ranged attacks on the frog, I would cut the Temple Guard and beef up saurus units. The Toad geared around 550 points is tough to kill running around solo, there is always a way, but it takes a ton of dedication. And if they focus on him it keeps you spearmen alive which should be the real threat.

Honestly I would either drop the Temple Guard or get more of them, honestly. 12 is going to be a good bunker, but its not really worth the 200 points that you're spending on it. Make them a unit of 20 and you have a serious combat block, but otherwise I agree with BigBoston on that subject.

RE: Lizardmen 8th edition list

I played against a Lizardmen army on the weekend, and he made the same mistake as you hav here: a complete lack of focus. For example, you both had Bane Head and Lore of Life, but what do you hope to achieve with it? It's not like you'll be sniping characters with the spells, except with Dwellers which insta-kills, which means that it's a waste of an item. Your Temple Guard are also way too small, if you had been my Lizardman opponent, I'd have won on turn 1 by casting 13th Spell which did 17 wounds to the Temple Guard unit- his survived, just, yours didn't, and your Slann would die with it!

Where are your stegadons good sir? those things are just worth their weight in gold imo. Also as everyone else has said either drop the guard or beef them up. I would also drop the skinks/kroxigor combos I have just never seen those guys work well together. I would drop them and turn them into stegadons or run them just blocks of kroxigors. Also dont forget ou have acess to camelion skinks and those guys are just great war machiene hunts.

RE: Lizardmen 8th edition list

I'm not massively brainy on Lizardmen but I can give you some general pointers:

I've never seen Skinks+Kroxigors work well together either. Blocks of Kroxigors will serve better, as pointed out by TobinRoss. Take a single block.

Stegadons have always been destructive against myself, and anyone else I've watched play against them too. Use them, preferably over the tiny pointless unit of Temple Guard.

Your main infantry blocks are too small and not really defended too well. Combine the Saurus into one block and deploy them in Horde formation, that way you've got an almost inpenetrable bunker for your Slann and they're much more of a threat which is consequently harder to get away from. Oh, and the Banner of Swiftness from the Rulebook is always fun to use - M5 Saurus sound to me about as cheesy as my favourite M5 Chaos Warriors smile

The Salamanders don't appear to be achieving much in such small numbers, these can be points to contribute to your Ancient Stegadon which is almost compulsory for all Lizzies players, or so I've seen in the past.
