RE: My other stuff

nice work merenwen. Imo the beards could use a badab black wash.
What did you use for the base (it looks like there are white patches of grass or is that snow?)

Check my Beasts of Chaos Plog

RE: My other stuff

OI! you ripped of my thread title SwearMad2

Looks pretty good, easy way to do metal is to use devlun mod over it, its how I do mine! Anyways it will be interesting to see some of these dark elves who keep getting owned by WoC!

Cuzzy: Thanks, I will try some badab black wash. It is light snow and grass on the base.

logan: yea sorry, I will change it when I come up with a better name and figure out how to, but " my Dwarf, high elf and dark elf painted armies" seemed a bit long. lol. I shall also try some devlum mud over it, thanks, I always find Metal hard to paint.

RE: My other stuff

Very nice Merewen. I've always admired your style of painting! The dwarfs are looking fabulous. You have a great theme and some lovely colours. I really look foward to seeing more.

I agree that the beards may require a little more shading but be careful, you don't want to lose the lovely whispy quality you've got going on there.

Cheers,

u_m

RE: My other stuff

i wouldn't use devlin mud on the army on because of fluff-wise it wouldn't fit in my opinion, Dwarfs are renown for their shiny high quality armour, i think badab black would help create depth to it however and allow a nice start to some highlighting:

Base - Chaos Black
Layer 1 - Boltgun metal
Layer 2 - Badab black wash
Layer 3 - Highlight raised areas and larger areas Boltgun metal leaving the recesses with the wash
Layer 4 - Chainmail highlight leaving some pure boltgun metal present
Layer 5 - Mithril Silver for the very edges and very brightest parts of the metal

That should help to give the armour some depth but still keeping the appearance of well crafted armour!
Someone with better painting skill then me might be able to give you a better step-by-step to painting armour as i tend to paint dirty/worn/old armour usually

Overall i think this is a cracking start to what will be a great painting log keep up the good work!!

RE: My other stuff

That sounds like a nice pallette, Veiled.

The only thing I may suggest to add to it would be a watered down blue wash prior to the mithril highlight, and perhaps even a watered down purple shading wash. This gives a really nice feel of old, arcane armour with the essential splash of dwarven splendour. Keep the layers thin and the metal will start to have a really nice seamless feel, like well forged Mithrill tongue

Cheers,

u_m

RE: My other stuff

I would keep the collours dark as they are ofcourse dark elves. If I ever get some DE I would probably go for a dark blue and a lot of dark metals. I just love bleu and green and I personally think blue fits them better.
But that´s just what I would do grin

RE: My other stuff

Okay, it has been a while, but I have started some more conversions. for my Dark Elf force I like the idea os a slanesh themed army... Boobs everywhere! So I have converted (no way near finished) some seekers of slanesh and cold one knights. I think it works quite well, I will paint the seekers and cold ones the same colour to give them more of a synergising feel. I still have to clean up the green stuff and add more, sand down mould lines etc. Let me know what you think so far, C+C welcome anyway I can make them look better is always appreciated.
Enjoy.

Sorry for the HUGE photos, I havent figured out how to make them smaller yet.

This is my BSB, there isnt a model for DE yet, so I used the standard from the seekers of slanesh and used a hand from a DE musisian and green stuffed it to the wrist. I will green stuff the metal rod bit to the hand.

I like the idea of the Slaneshi DE, and the mixture of Seekers and Cold One Knights. Very innovative!

RE: My other stuff

Really cool so far Merenwen, Loving the conversions. Are you going to make the BSB's Standard touch the floor? I would suggest it, those flags get heavy!
I'm no painting expert but I agree with our resident one, U_M, in the application of some wash/glazes of a colour like blue or purple. It,s good practice for the DE too. For their colour scheme I think a nice ruddy bronze or gold with purple and green glazes would look lovely too. I believe I have seen a picture of DEldar done in a very similar scheme too. I'll try to find it.

Keep up the excellent work.Zombie1

Oh yeah and keep the pics big, there is nothing more anoying than squinting at or waiting for a screen to load!
