Merenwens VC Army

pics of my army. I have decided my army will have a theme of collection, I like the idea of my vamp going round the world colelcting the best of each race and making them her own.
I love scatch building and converting. grin

Black Coach

Varghulf: The idea behind him is that he was defeated in combat against the Wood elves inside a forrest and he attatched his soul to a tree to escape death and now he is desperate to make himself more human/vampire like, so he uses the skin of his defeated enimies to attatch to himself.

Really nice looking army. I love the theme your doing about your vampire, collecting the best from around the world to serve him in the afterlife.

I think your converted treeman idea is a really good way to go if you don't like the Varghulf model etc. I may nick the idea but tweek abit Devil
The Spirit hosts look really good, very well done

Thanks, i might be getting some goblin fanatics soon as cairn wraithes grin
The black knights have cotton because they are etherial steeds, so i was trying to make them look etherial and i couldnt think of any other way. lol, thats also why they are quite pale.

RE: Merenwens VC Army

a very good looking army so far. I have to agree the treeman is my favorite fallowed by the coach.

Here is a good idea green knight as a vampire been used again and again but I think you could bring him to unlife very well.

I got a laugh out of the fantatics as the wraiths.

RE: Merenwens VC Army

I've been brainstorming other ways to simulate it.One would be to make them fading and spectral, like many of the spirit hosts of late a la' SethDrallitoc.Another idea I had was too remove the legs from barded horses and use those clear pegs like their hovering. They would look like they were riding speeders from Star Wars cheesygrin
Or even modeling greenstuff in masses of roiling-ness,and paint it foggy.
The cotton looks cool, especially from a distance. It just seems to impermanent and impromptu to me.
I can't overstate how much I like the models themselves though, especially the horseflesh and contrasting pastels..it has a ghostly aura to it.

RE: Merenwens VC Army

I think the cotton-ball effect works quite well here.

Overall, it does look good but I have some advice which might just help a bit. Judging from your freehand work you definitely have good precision but the application of paint seem to be rather harsh(did you drybrush some areas?). A way to get around this is to add a drip of water, or just put the brush in a glas of water and wipe some the water off with a piece of paper(but keep it moist! Otherwise it is pointless). This will make the paint apply itself in a smoother and more even manner.

A nice touch with the treeman as a sort corrupted ent creature. Very nice.

Cheers

You have some nice models there, Merenwen! Like Danceman, I really love the idea of the undead treeman!

Them der sprithosts look great, good work.

If you want the cotton to be more mist like, try spreading it out just a timy bit, and leave some stripes of it hanging uppwards and backwards, so that it looks like they are moving forward. Lett's see if i can gett my cottoned BC done, or if i'l just post it unbased now.

Fantastic work Merewen. I the Treeman-Vargulf is very creepy with draping dead skin over itself, very nice idea. I think the Knights look really good as well. I have used cotton wool as well, and I find it looks more realistic up you get something sharp like a needle and gently tug some wispy strands upwards etc.

My first proper filler attempt for a skele regiment so far.
Dwarf tied up and put to the stake by skeleton warriors on order of the vamp general.
