New Gunhearts Background

Ok, this is a very rough outline of the new Gunhearts RP. Firstly here is the background, let me know what you think:

The world is officially known as Lecinarius Primus, known to the majority of its inhabitants as Lecina (Ley-kee-na). It is a solar system with one sun, at a distance that provides it with an atmosphere similar to earth. There are also two other inhabitable planets in the system, one name Lecinarius Secondus (known to most simply as Second), and the other as Vecchia. (Further information on the other planets to be provided later). Many years ago it was a veritable paradise, the human population flourished and made some impressive technological advancements. But long before it was reclaimed by the Imperium, Lecina’s fifth world war scoured the landscape. Nuclear weapons were unleashed and most the inhabitants died save for those protected by the shields of the cities.

In recent times the planet has recovered a great deal. Though the majority of the land is still barren, filled with acidic pools and mutated creatures, certain natural wildlife is starting to make a resurgence. Forests and natural evolved animals (in contrast to the mutants) are being seen more and more, though the ash clouds that still form a great deal of the upper atmosphere limit this new life.

The cities of the men on this planet have grown vast. During their isolation from the surface they expanded the only way they could, downwards. It was there they discovered the planets hidden treasure. Deep down they found veins of many precious metals and it was this that signed the planet’s importance when it was discovered by the Imperium. It was found to have very high concentrations of one of the ores required to make the alloy Admantanium. Since that time mining for this ore has become the main concern of all the major cities, although there is still much mining for other substances such as gold and other precious metals.

To an outsider it seems Lecina is a very stable and good place to live. The Imperium now rules the planet as a whole, though of course each city state has it own ruling Council. It is reasonably technologically advanced, and the cities themselves are full of some marvels of automation to make life easier. However upon further investigation everything is not as peaceful as it seems. There is a gap between the poor and the wealthy that is slowly becoming wider. Where once those living in a city were mainly equal, supporting one another during the difficult times, since the Imperium has arrived this has changed. The merchants are becoming more and more wealthy from the various mining activities, and their greed means that they are paying their workers less and less. In most cities now they are wealthy enough to influence the ruling Councils and many laws to previously protect the “lower classes” have been repealed. Many of the bigger merchant families also have their own forces for their protection, though it is well known these forces are used for other illicit activities.

From this gap has sprung a lot of crime in the lower working classes, eventually devolving into a gang culture where everyone tries to look after their own. Though there are many hard working citizens, many of them are “affiliated” with certain gangs purely for their own protection. The government of the cities have responded to this in the usual way of the Imperium by trying to eradicate it. The attempts so far have been far from successful. Most of the workers and gangs now live underground, in the hab tunnels their families lived in after the world war. They know the land, the boltholes and all armies that have entered this area have been defeated with heavy casualties. Unfortunately other methods are not optional due to the mining requirement.

The Gunhearts are one of the oldest gangs that have recently suffered from many losses. The live in under the city of Alchar, the third biggest city state on Lecina, controlled a set of tunnels dubbed the “Holes”. These were previously long term storage holes for supplies after the war, but were abandoned afterwards. They became prized as gang territory due to their very confusing nature of interlinked tunnels and rooms. There is also some kind of magnetic influence that prevents scanning in the tunnels making it very difficult to map, and all gang members are forbidden to draw maps.

The current Gunhearts gang is much reduced from what it was. It previously controlled a large portion of the undercity (as the tunnels / habs etc under the city states are referred to), however they suffered the most from the crackdown on the gangs, and that combined with attacks from rival gangs as drove them back to the Holes where they have finally managed to make a stand. Only a few members now survive, and as the rival gangs make plans for their own expansion it seems that they have set their sights on the Gunhearts as their next target.

Hi new to forum (you lack a /wave smiley)
Been ghosting this forum, since I regular see myself fighting the undead, and have been reading up on youre roleplays and they sound like a lot of fun, so figured I would give it a go and join, since this is more or less a new start, the Vampire council Roleplay is quite the mouthful.

Very solid background there DoN. Can only suggest you buy, borrow or steal the Dark Heresy rulebook, if you need some background information of the various institutions of the imperium. Or just generally inspiration.

Standards for the imperium is, that there would be a planetary govenor, who just have the responsibility that the imperium get its tithe, guess that means ore and maybe a few regiments of imperial guards. Not that i believe he would have any direct influence on the roleplay, but he does influence the political aspect of city life, even thou he might not directly care on how the cities are run, as long the tithes are met. So if we blow up 10 megaton of ore might upset him a bit, and the pressure on the councils would rise.
Adeptus Arbites are the law enforcers of the imperium, and dont really care about city law like murders and gang warfare. City uprisings that threaten production and heresy are there main responsibilities.
Gang warfare is handled by local authorities.
And ofcourse the imperial cult is an everpresent redemption/threat.

Just delete all that if you allready knew, doesnt matter to you or what ever. I can adapt to youre setting easily smile If im allowed to join that is.

Perhaps we could start with the gang fighting other gangs other some important remnant of their territory, and then the npc leader of the gang is killed, causing a power vacuum and general disarray in the gang.

Anilar - Thank you for the info, it is very helpful. I have "acquired" a copy of Dark Heresy. Of course you are welcome to join, I will be posting up info on what bio's require shortly.

@ Sanai - A power vacuum is perhaps not a good idea, as someone normally has to fill it. However I have an idea that will keep us all on a level playing field. I will post up more info over the next few days.

In the meantime, if you all want to start planning your new characters, though please don't post them yet. Bear in mind I will be quite strict on wargear and skills as we are just starting off, so don't be designing a ninja with a powersword! cheesygrin

Seriously though I like the background to this and I already see myself as the Juve Lee the Lucky, a small built warrior who makes up for strength with speed and fortitude with fortune.

Recent Events

As stated the Gunhearts have suffered greatly in government crackdown in the undercity. Though of course not proven it is believed that this was instigated after two Gunheart’s members stopped a wagon travelling through their territory. Upon investigation over a dozen children were found drugged and bound in the back, and one of the guards was found to be wearing a ring with the insignia of the Tribolt Group, a wealthy and very influence merchant company Whilst the children were freed one of the guards escaped, no doubt back to his employer.

Though the children did not know why they had been kidnapped and the driver and guards refused to talk, there was no doubt there was something going on. However before anything could be done the Government assaulted the undercity. Initially it seemed like the normal crackdowns that happened whenever the gangs grew to confident or too powerful, but in hindsight it was clear that they had specifically targeted the Gunhearts.

The attack was long and bloody and many men, women and even children lost their lives that day. Some of the longest serving members of the Gunhearts battled to the end to protect their homes but wave after wave of government troops could not be stopped. In the end they were forced to flee back to the one place where they knew they had the upper hand, the Holes. It was here that the Government finally gave up playing cat and mouse games and left what remained of the Gunhearts.

The territory that the Gunhearts lost was quickly claimed by other gangs, namely the Reapers who had been both friends and enemies over the years, and more worryingly the Monks. Though they had a name that inspired visions of peaceful men, they Monks were anything but. They had a disciplined approach that made them deadly foes, and they very rarely wavered in their tasks. They were also deadly hand to hand warriors as well. There was a long term hate between the Gunhearts and the Monks that stemmed from years ago when the Gunhearts leader had best the Monks leader, and the Monks had been trying to beat the Gunhearts ever since.

Whilst the Reapers would probably allow the Gunhearts times to recouperate, the Monks would like nothing more than to take the Holes, to take the land that had never been taken from the Gunhearts and earn a victory which would give them a reputation to be feared.

Currently the Gunhearts stand at a few core members left of varying skill and ability. All the leaders bar one were killed and so overall leadership falls to Jurgan. However even Jurgan was seriously injured and so has been forced to direct the gang from his restbed, granting them his years of experience in hope that the gang can still be saved……


Creating a character

I decided to use the template from the TVC, so here we go:

1. You must post your bio using the below template. If you don’t I wont even consider your character. Fluff and background doesn’t have to be extensive (though we would of course like it if you do go into detail), but you must fill in the relevant stat / strengths / weaknesses area carefully.
2. Once posted your character will be reviewed for a minimum of 24 hours. Whilst I may have the final say so, I appreciate the opinions from the current members, so this gives them time to post their thoughts on your character.
3. You must receive confirmation from me (Disciple of Nagash) to say your character is ok, once this has been done you can go to the OOC thread to discuss how best to introduce your character.

Personality
What kind of person they are, their beliefs, convictions, likes, dislikes etc. This can be quite an important section as it can help others interact with your character easier.

Brief History
Self explanatory.


Basic Stats
A section that MUST be filled in. I have decide to go for a numbered system similar from 1-10, 1 being the very worst, 10 being the very best. Only in very rare instances can it go over 10, and a very good explanation would have to be provided why. Please note these are BASIC stats. If you have a magic item that increases them, that should be put in a bracket afterwards.

Basics

Speed: Purely the how fast the character is when running / moving between places this does not mean speed at dodging blows.
Examples: 2 = very slow, 5 = average, 8 = very fast, 10 = Flying.

Agility: How good the character can scale walls, jump around, evade others, launch attacks etc.
Examples: 2 = very slow, will be hit a lot, 5 = average, 8 = very fast can evade most blows, launch quite a few attacks. 10 = Is like a bloody ninja.

Weapon Skill: How good the person is in combat either with weapons or bare hands.
Examples: 2 = not skilled, 5 = average skilled, 8 = very skilled, 10 = Extremely skilled .

Ballistic Skill: How good a shot the person is with ballistic weapons.
Examples: 2 = can’t hit the broad side of a barn, 5 = average (human skilled), 8 = excellent shot, 10 = Never misses.

Raw Strength: How much raw physical strength the character has when it comes to pushing, wrestling others etc.
Examples: 2 = weak 5 = average, 8 = extremely powerful, 10 = Stupidly powerful.

Technique Strength: Someone has little muscle mass can still hit with a lot of power if they use they correct technique or manoeuvre. However I would only expect this to be high if the weapon skill is quite high.
Examples: 2 = poor power in combat, 5 = average, 8 = blows quite more powerful in combat, 10 = Stupidly powerful blows in combat

Toughness: Basic resilience of your character against normal blows.
Examples: 2 = weak, can only suffer a few hits, 5 = average, 8 = very resilient, can suffer a lot of damage, 10 = Pretty much unkillable.

Tactical Knowledge: How well the character can command people, deploy troops etc. I will use this to dictate the flow of future battles.
Examples: 2 = Poor commander, 5 = average, 8 = excellent leader and knowledge, 10 = Superb general, rarely looses.


Technology You can have different skill levels for different skillsets
Skillset: (such mechanic, weaponsmith,)
Skill Level: How skilled the character is in his said field.
Examples: 2 = Apprentice, 5 = reasonable skill, 8 = master, 10 = Knows everything about the said skillset.

Fluffy description in Italics if valid
Description of item RP-wise, please note if it changes the characters stats, and put the amended stats in brackets after the basic stats. AA

Full Name:Anders "A" Olsab
Associated Names:Fix, fixer, oldy, granddaddy
Age:47


Physical Description:
AA is about 6 feet tall, slightly overweight but strong. Brownish hair, with some grey creeping in, blue eyes. Rough hands from hard working, but a kind face often with a big smile. And lucky enough to have avoided visible scars. Wears everyday clothes.

Personality:
Having survived to the old age of 47 in this violent place of the Hive, not much in the Hive surprises him anymore. In spite of this, AA is still a happy smiling man loving hive life. Recent events have soured his mood a bit.
Love children, having children and grandchildren himself, and children see and experience AA like a trustworthy teddybear and a play uncle.
(Danish, so just made a direct translation of a couple of concepts we use to descripe men who a good with children, women dont do teddybear very well lol don't know if english have similar concepts, will edit this away and correct to description if it need any)

Easy to be around, can talk with just about everybody, and many confide to AA, well aware that any secrets and problems will not be shared with others.

Brief History:
AA grew up in Gunheart territory, where he and his father maintained and repaired the various machinery of the area, including the equipment of the gunhearts for protection and cheap rent.
The family had moved from the middlehive, but they had gradually been forced away by the adeptus mechanicus, who took over more and more functions. The mechanicus being hostile towards the hivers for not adhering to proper rituals and show respect for the socalled machine spirit.
AA fell in love with a gunheart chick named Alissa in his youth, and so the family's standing with the gang improved. His skillset highly appreciated and kept the family out of gang business too. He got married to Alissa and they got a family of there own before they were 20. Alissa was allowed to leave the gang, opening the bar and diner Guns and Hearts, in the territory. AA and Alissa got 2 boys and a girl. They being smart enough not to join gang life. And they have provided AA and alissa with wonderful grandchildren in the age range of 3 to 7.
Alissa and kids have fled to relatives in the middlehive, with the troubles that came. AA optioned to join and help the Gunhearts getting there territory back, so his family can come back down. And maybe just maybe find out what the government were doing with those poor drugged children.

Basic Stats:


Speed: 4 Not as fast as he once was, survival in the hive requires that you are not too slow.

Agility: 2 Well a little overweight and not a particular good dancer.

Weapon Skill: 4 Well did a little fist fighting in the old days.

Ballistic Skill: 5 Not a master sniper, prefering the spread of a shotgun, "Dodge this monks"

Raw Strength: 6 Well hard work, no power tools for rusted bolts, gives a good workout.

Technique Strength: 2 Practioner of violent fist fighting, letting others be fancy blade dancing assasins.

Toughness: 6 Can't survive to my age without being though.

Tactical Knowledge: 4 Mostly a follower, but with age comes widom.

Technology:

Skillset: Tech use (How to use various technology, including more complex machinery and devices. This includes figuring out new technology)
Skill Level: 4

Skillset: Mechanic (Dont know if there is a better suited description, or if I should have several skillsets covering this. Thinking general maintenance and repairing of technology, machinery and devices, everything from flashlights and guns over vehicles and air recycling units, to the huge machinery of the hive like water purifiers.)
Skill Level: 4

Equipment:
Ani
Ani is a old local Leci B34 pump-action shotgun, from before the imperium came with all the standard construction templates of everything.

AA have modified the shotgun over the years, so it can chamber and shoot the basic shells the Imperium have brought, old time shells and spareparts not being manufactured anymore. It can chamber 6 shots. Have about 36 shells total. (Just want to hear if there is any thoughts to ammo count in this roleplay, is it going to be important, will edit away when answered)

1 and 2
A pair of selfmade brassknuckles from AA's youth
Just for the occasional armed fistfight, and when a Monk just need to learn that fancy footworks isnt everything (Hope I can keep this instead of a knife. My logic tells me that a knife is a more deadly weapon. Don't know if they would improve my raw strength, thinking more they make me able to hit some1 without hurting my hands.)

Toolbag
Just my toolbag, have it all in a backpack, rarely leave without it, never know when something need tweaking and fixing.


Flashlight
Well there are dark places in a hive where machinery needs fixing

Other Abilities:
Not really no, maybe I will come up with some laters, will roleplay my storytelling, will have some to tell after a long life. If I get the inspiration and time that is smile

Strengths:
Optimistic in nature, can talk with everyone (Except mechanicus goons)
Am very confident and skilled around technology.
Like crowded places (well its a hive is it not)
Good with Children.
Will act if I see children in danger.

Weaknesses:
Not the greatest fighter around, a bit on the slow side, which can be a problem, when the weapon is a close quater ranged weapon.
Will act if children is in danger.
Trust other people a bit too much, even for a hiveborn.
Dont have ambitions for leadership.
Really have no respect for Adeptus Mechanicus, what machine spirit my behind. Machines might have a soul, but worship like a god what the heck.
Which is heretical beliefs.

And yes have a thing for names starting with an A, and maybe just maybe, ill tell what my middlename is.

Physical Description
With a lithe, athletic yet still curvacious body, Taya has often been the object of various catcalls and approaches of other gang members and various underhive scum. Taya is of around average height for a female, with messy, curly hair which while brunette in colour, is usually die'd a variety of wild colours. She has vivid green eyes and usually wears a tank top and comfortable shorts. Around her waist she wears a gunbelt, with a pair of holsters that sit around the back. When expecting a serious fight, Taya will don some scrounged scraps of armour taken from various sources, but she rarely wears full body armour, as it restricts her movement too much. She has a tatoo of 2 tears under one eye, and a life sized spine and ribs tatooed onto her back. Her shoulder features the skeleton of a coiled snake.

Personality
Taya did not survive in the undehive by being soft. She is a tough little character, willing to do whatever she has to to survive. She has a fiery temparement and is highly excitable, while also being somewhat manipulative, having learnt to use her fememinity to her own advantage. She delights in hurting people, and bores easily when not doing somethign exciting.

Brief History
Taya was born in the slums, and orphaned at an early age. She somehow survived till the age of 16, at which point she was taken in by a ganger from the Reaper gang. She talks little of that time, suffice to say that she was not treated (and used) kindly. At the age of 19, she escaped, having caused grievous (and embarrassing) harm to one of the Reapers who she had gotten really, really sick of. She fled, eventually finding her way into Gunheart Territory, whereupon she was soon taken in, becoming a ganger herself.

Speed: She isnt as strong or tough as her counterparts, so she has learned to rely on speed and agility. 5

Agility: Taya is exceptional at climbing, crawling and dodging, due to her small frame and her agility. 6

Weapon Skill: While agile and quick, Taya prefers ranged weapons. 3.

Ballistic Skill: Taya's most treasured possession is her rifle, which she practices with endlessly. 6

Technique Strength: Taya has no special close quarters training. 3.

Raw Strength: Taya is diminuitive. 2.

Toughness: Taya is small and lithe. 2.

Tactical Knowledge: Taya is clever and inventive, but isn't terribly good at directing others. 4 (2 When directing/advising others)

Technology/Abilities
Skillsets: Sniper: Taya has the kind of skills neccesary to take long shots at a distance using a scope. She can also perform basic maintainence on associated sniper rifles. 4
Stealth: Taya is sneaky and good at scurrying round the place. 3

Equipment
"Whore's Revenge" (Scoped Hunting Rifle)
This Rifle is Taya's most prized possession. She takes loving care of it and practices with it constantly.

Knife- A knife!

Other Abilities
Seduction: Taya is good at using many a method to get her own way.

Strengths
Sniper: Taya is an exceptional Sniper.
Agile: Taya is very good at running away and at sneaking/scurrying into interesting places.
Seductive: Taya is attractive and knows how to use all of her assets.

Weaknesses
Lightweight: Taya isnt big or strong. If she takes a hit, she is likely to go down hard.
Troublemaker: Taya's fiery temperament gets her into a fair bit of trouble, and her manipulative nature can often get others into trouble, and cause strife.
Oh shit, they saw me!: Taya's tendancy to range ahead of the gang and scurry around into interesting places can potentially get her in over her head.
Hatred: Taya absolutely hates the Reaper gang. This can cloud her judgement.

When I rread youre story things like cat, puma, jaguar, comes to mind also spider. The trap in youre net, and only the select gets eaten.
Dont know if autogun bullets are rare and expensive, maybe go for a hunting rifle, that would be a prized thing with expensive bullets. (Yeap reading in my dark heresy rulebook again)

Lol was just differentiating between the two different types of non bolter projectile weapon, its basically a sniper rifle.

Sanai I think some of your starting stats are too high. Remember we are all basic gang members. It’s partly my fault.

So I am going to add the following restrictions:

No stat may be higher than a 6. There should not be any more than 2 stats which are currently a 6, and even then other stats should be reduced to balance out.

All members have a knife as basic. They may carry either two varients of hand guns or one varient of a rifle (i.e weapon that would notmally need two hands), or one varient of a handgun and a better hand weapon such as a machete, club etc.

Skillsets - should be no more than two anhd max level you can start off with is 4.


Remember: we are just starting off, so you wil build in stats, skills and weaponry over the game.

Okay will adjust my character accordingly a later today or tomorrow. Will have to do some thinking. Guess ill try and act like I have worked a long life, while im a noob. smile Or does skillset 4 indicate something like hard training and a long life work ???
New to this system, and might get weird ideas from youre ultra powerful vampires in the other roleplay.

Physical Description
5ft 11 with a medium build. A long thin scar runs down the side of his face, his face appears pale giving him the nickname Wight. From what you can see he looks like he’s clad in a set of Imperial carapace armour all insignia all but removed, but only the chestplat remains the rest has gone but it’s not that obvious because of a full length leather coat.

Personality
Wight keeps things close to his chest, few if anyone knows much about his past before he arrived on the planet, and he doesn’t like to speak about it. He’s quite a calm person normally but if he gets angry he’ll hit you like a ton of bricks, not a lot seems to get him angry but jibes at him not talking about his past seems to be one of them. If you don’t aggravate him he seems to be a nice person to be around, if a little quiet. If something needs doing he likes to get it done rather then mess around.

Brief History
Not much is known about Wight before he turned up in a bar in the under hive, deathwatch insignia still just visible on a set of imperial armour. This unfortunately didn’t go down to well with the drunken locals which erupted into a large bar fight. With most the local fleeing as Wight brought down the largest drunks with a shot from a pistol in each hand. He knocked another out with the butt of a pistol, before shooting another mans arm off and finally pulling an ornamental sword of the wall and ramming into the last man's chest. The cheaply made blade not designed for this splinted, leaving nothing longer then a knife in the man's chest. Wight was spotted by a member of the gunhearts and was recruited during the fighting and was reported to be one of the last men into the holes.


Basics

Speed: 4 Wight although he can sprint pretty quick doesn’t like to do so, if you need to get there that quickly you haven’t planned something right.

Agility: 4 He isn’t slow but nothing special.

Weapon Skill: 5 He seems to have had a large amount of combat training and seems good in a scrap

Ballistic Skill: 5 Seems to have had a large amount of training with guns as well

Raw Strength: 4

Technique Strength: 5 He knows where to punch and where to aim for with a shot

Toughness: 4 Not much tougher then a standard human but he has the grit not to give up

Tactical Knowledge: 3 Although being reasonably tactically smart he lacks the knowledge of the layout of the holes and tunnels having joined during the fighting.


Technology

Skillset: Weapon upkeep (more suitable name needed)
Skill Level: 5 He knows how too keep his weapons working and firing and can do so in tight situations. (This wouldn’t include actually fixing them properly)

Equipment

2 Hellpistols
They aren’t in the best state of repair, used extensively during the fighting with improper methods of charging (chuck the clip in a fire), this has left them shorter on range and much reduced in the capacity to retain charge, leaving them with an unpredictable amount of shots.

Carapace Chest plate
Enough of the insignia remains to a keen eye to show it once belonged to the deathwatch, the rest of the armour seems to have vanished. It has been scratched and battered but still seems to hold strong.

Ornamental sword
Many locals swear they’ve seen the sword somewhere before, but can’t remember very clearly. The blade is shattered leaving it hardly longer then a knife. It goes hardly used, Wight preferring to use two pistols in hand to hand fighting. It’s believed he just keeps it as a trophy.

Strengths
• Good fighter and a good shot.
• Good equipment
• Doesn’t give a crap about beliefs himself but doesn't try to stop others (yeah it’s in both)

Weaknesses
• Jack of all traits but master of none.
• Used to structured learning styles will struggle to learn quickly in new environment.
• Doesn’t like to fall back, even when outnumbered and outfought.
• Bit of a Pessimist.
• Large disregard for others safety (Too long in the higher ranks of the guard).
• Doesn’t give a crap about beliefs himself but doesn't try to stop others (yeah it’s in both)
