New to VC help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, I'm new to warhammer in general I started off with skaven i have about 3000 pts of them. when i saw the updates to VC i couldn't resist buying myself a battalion box, since then i've bought about 30 grave guard, another 20 skeletons, another 20 zombies. wight king, winged vampire lord, krell, and a necromancer. so i have in total about 40 skellies, 30 GG, 10 ghouls, nd 40 zombies. I'm probably going to get a mortis engine soon, and some vargheists. but I'm not sure how much core I should have. with skaven ppl say the general rule is 1 model for every 10 points. (ie. 2000 points = 200 models) Is this the same for VC? anyways, I guess I'd just like some advice on what's best to buy from here I don't care how much I have to spend I just want to perform decently when I start playing with these guys I guess. I've been reading alot of the lists on here so I'm startin to form an idea in my head of what i'll have eventually but advice would be appreciated =] thanks.

I guess it really depends on what your style is, what models you like and so on. Zombies are really good in this book. We don't really have a wrong choice this time around. I would focus on one style at first and expand after you get a firm grasp. How many points do you play in your area generally? 2K? Some key models besides the really cool mortis engine are:

Wraiths
vampire hero
Skellies (depending on your taste)
Zombies (depending on your taste)
ghouls (depending on your taste)
Grave Guard
Corpse cart(s)

that will give you some utility and some blocks. Then you would typically add hitting pow. That's where your special and rares come in. And that is all personal preference and style. I would do exactly what you are doing and lurk around on the forums and ask questions where applicable. See what other people are doing but most importantly why they are doing it. Look in the tactics section of these forums to read up on units and how are army functions. Some people I see running small infantry like 20-30 large. small for us at least. And others I have seen have adopted the hordes mentality and play 40-80+. guess it depends on what your list is designed to do. I am still learning the new edition myself. Vampire counts play a lot different not only in this edition due to fear drastically changing but in this new book as well.

thanks for the reply man,

I've written a 1000 points list cause thats all i can make with the models i have at the moment, pretty much just goes
master necro with master of dead and shroud,
vampire w/ heavy armour enchanted shield.

30 skellies 30 zombies 30 graveguard.didnt have points left over for rares

In a thousand point list zombies can be dropped down to 20, because IoN will get them up so fast. Ghouls are the killers on core, and zombies and Skellies are the horde. They don't to a whole lot unless buffed or supported with characters in the units, but they are cheap and easy to raise. The big thinh about our core is the you can't flank charge a unit in combat wiht one of your zombies or skellies. If you do your core will just get butchered and then the unstable rule will destroy your flank charger. GG are the VC special unit that drops the hammer. Give them GW; str6 killing blows with T4 and 5+ armor save is enough to handle with most threats, and they aren't that expensive.
