How much do you spend on average on Heroes and Lords in say 2400-2500 point games? I's it crazy to ever go over 1000p considering how much gr8ness there is in our Rare/Special choices?

It depends ofc, but how do we do it on average?

I keep to the rule of 2 Lord/hero choices at this level. A tooled up Vamp Lord for ~500pts and a support vamp/necro for <150pts. I find it to be a good balance.

Regardless of my lord choice, in any games over 1k I have been getting 2 lv. 2 Necros in a 20 zombie bunker (one in each corner to reduce miscast casualties) to act as IoN spammers, while the Lord handles the specialty spells like Curse of Years and Wind of Death. Coupled with the Mortis Engine and a Blasphemous Tome (+2 to cast), my magic phases have been really powerful and my units have been bursting at the seams.

I have a formula thats a little abstract. It's more like... 3-5 Wizard Levels per 1000pts. No Vampire Lords before 2000pts.

However, I do tend to be rather spendy on my Characters, but I've been happy with most lists I build that way. It works for me, because I love Magically potent armies.

I think it's 2-5 levels per 1000 points. You can get by with 5 magic levels on 2.5k, it's just hard.

I've got a 2000 pts army with cairn wraith, vampire and master necro costing 670 pts together;
and a 3000 pts army with a ghoul king and 2 vampires costing 1230 pts together.

I also prefer to spend my points on rare or even special (!) units.
