Polearms!

Why is it the the VC don't have access to polearms such as halberds (lances excluded). I think that it only stands to reason that, seeing as undead can come from anywhere, they should have a wider variety of options for their troop/special choices. I know the GG used to have halberds, so why not anymore?

More importantly I wanna see a halberd magic item, something that adds the +1 strength and some other effect that I can't think of AT the moment.

Does anyone else feel that the missing halberds seems odd and unfitting? So far as I know the Bretonnians and Chaos Warriors have troops with halberd capabilities...so why not?

I like to think that we dont have many unit upgrades because there crude undead, Slow and weak but re-raiseable and resilient, but the truth is that VC would be overpowered if we had unit upgrade options.

- Dming DnD 3.5 Eberron Campaign

Yes, due to the cheapness of skeletons, if we could then give them plus one strength for a point or two, they'd be nicely OP cheesygrin

RE: Polearms!

Skeletons are considered cheap? Holy cow! Orc Boyz are half the points and have a better statline! As far as I'm concerned they are 8 points a pop because of Fear and ItP! But still, I mean the Boyz get 4 str on the first turn of combat and have that juicy 4 toughness!

RE: Polearms!

Well, I consider them to be quite cheap due to the fact that not only are they ItP, but you can easily raise them back up again grin. Can't do that with orc boyz cheesygrin

RE: Polearms!

What would be mean would be to give Skellies some crossbows/bows. Then, kill several guys in the middle of an enemy unit, then raise them as Skellies and watch the fun begin cheesygrin

*sigh, wishful thinking cheesygrin

Would it? In my opinion it gives more versatility, and with a reasonable pricing it can be balanced. But it doesn't really add to the slavering horde, aye. I mean, hitting and then S4, that'll mean the Skeletons are able to kill something.

Then again, upgrading to halberds means less troops. That means less of a horde, and could be a more elite army. Think of a Blood Dragon leading the army.

I think that'll be fair to get for the nerfs we just received.

RE: Polearms!

I have always said through all the editions that Skellies should have the options for a variety of weapons. Their low stats and ensuring fair costing would not make then OP, an it makes sense fluff wise.

RE: Polearms!

With the new step up rule and the low initiative of our troops, I think gw are a better option now. Halberds would be an option for skeletons that would make a lot of sense fluffwise, but personally I would prefer DoW's pikes, crossbows and some gunpowder.
AT the same time, halberds look too "lower class" for a vampire imho and I would prefer some more fancy ability for their nobler handweapons (+1 one strength on charge, magic attacks, a bonus on ws...). It seems very silly that wights have magic attacks and killing blow by default and vampires have... nothing...

Or your shadow AT evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust."
