Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

I love threads such as these so I thought we should have one to!

So everyone, share your incredible, worst, will-never-happen stories!

I'll start with two:

Was playing my wood elves vs my friends dark elves. His six strong cold one knight unit was set up so that the next charge would probably win him the game. All he had to do was charge my 10 man glade guard unit, overrun and kill of the rest of my army.

Knowing I had no way to stop this, I simply turned my Glade Guards to face him and fired one desperate volley. Six hits, six wounds. My opponent picks up six dices to make his saves, he throws them: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 2. ALL DEAD! SERIOUSLY?!

I won that game thanks to that.....

Another time I charged 15 skeletons with handweapons, only standard as command, into a 20 strong full command spear saurus unit. I somehow managed to kill 4(!) sauruses with my 5 ws2 s3 attacks. When he struck back he didn't score a single hit! I won the fight by 4 points, he had a bsb and the general (ld9) close. Failed his break test, even after re-roll and cold blooded, he flead and I ran the unit down, smashing into a unit of skinks that stood behind them wick I obliterated next turn with my super powerd skeletons!!

With my dwarves.

O.K., I was playing a 5000 point battle against magic-heavy Lizards. He had a couple Slann and at least 5 skink priests. One EOTG. He released all his power dice, that he could, and rolled 5-5-5-6.
I looked at him in the face, and said.
"Lizard magic is broken"
Then I picked up a handful of dispel dice and looked back at him.
"But so is 2 Rune Lords. And 2 Rune Priests."
That was the good part. Then he said,
"You didn't hear, did you? I rolled 6-6-5-5. It's irrestible force."

Oh, let me see.....

6 Black Knights completely wiping a Stegadon off the table. Destroyed it. Utterly. It was awesome.

5 zombies eating my opponents scary Deathstar unit after they lose combat by one to a now 15 strong skeleton unit with a Vampire Hero....who's carrying the unremarkable, much lamented Tomb Blade.

My Wight King BsB with Sword of Kings eating my opponents Dwarven Lord in one shot. Decapitation, disembowelment, and complete look of disbelief, all in one!

Committing vandalism one grey model at a time! Grey must go!

Rob has come, Rob has browsed;
Rob has quite leisurely lounged
Upon my bed, upon my chair,
His fingers curled in my hair.
And bits of him are everywhere.
Sad am I, but he must leave.
So I sent him off just Yestereve.

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

My Dark Elves versing a rival High Elf army.

First time he ever used two dragons in a game. One Star Dragon with Prince and a Dragon Mage.

He goes first and moves everything in position.
My turn. I move a few things like my Dark Riders next to the Dragon Mage along with my Shades. Shooting Phase. 6 Dark Riders, 6 Shades and 2 RBT's fire at the Dragon Mage and kill both dragon and mage easily. I kinda expected the mage to die and the drag to take a big hit but killing it made me feel a little better. Now my 31 Repeater Crossbowmen line up the Star Dragon and fire at it. One unit of 15 got 27 hits with 18 of them being 6's (I was called a witch after rolling that). Those bolts then managed to do 8 wounds to the Dragon itself and 4 to the Prince. Dragon fails 4 armour saves and the Prince failed 2.

My opponent kinda lost any feelings he had of winning and still refuses to play against my Dark Elves to this day and that was at least a year and half ago. Suffice to say that Star Dragon did not live very long after that, dying to the second volley of crossbow bolts aimed at it the next turn after eating a Cold One Chariot.

Another Crossbowmen story of saving the day was against Woodies. A Treeman decides to charge my ranked up unit of crossbows due to changing formation the turn before as I knew i'd still get the same amount of shots and a rank bonus to boot. After the stand and shoot doing one wound, the Treeman proceeds to fluff his attacks completely without a single hit. My crossbowmen then put a wound on him. He loses combat and then rolls a 9 for his Ld test and it was a 1k game so not enough points to fit in a BSB and he then rolled snake eyes for his flee distance allowing my crossbowmen to pull out their axes and chop him to bits grin.

Last one... A good friend of mine decided to trial his new Oldblood build on Carnosaur with the old book with Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent and some other crap. He charges my skellies thinking he was gonna butcher them real good. I thought he was too. He then only gets 6 hits including the Carnosaur and kills 5. I win combat because of muso and he rolls his ld test. A 5,5 and a 4. Oh dear. He also realised he had no BSB because no Slann was there and thats what he usually used. He flees... a whole 5 inches on 3 dice. My skellies decided to jump on it and drag it down to ground rolling an 8 for pursuit. He has only used it once since that game and that was only to test it because of the new book. He lost badly that game and I've been extremely proud of my skellies ever since.

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

My worst luck was probably my vamp-general getting whacked by a Goblin Shaman's magical ring. Nibbla's Itty Ring it's called I believe, this stupid item actually allows somebody to pick out a character and casts Eadbutt on them. He already had been wounded and I was waiting for my Magic phase to give him back a wound; no such luck.
In the following turns my army quickly collapsed...Silent

My best luck with my VC was actually with my Dire Wolves. I charged them into some elite shooty Wood Elf unit(don't know what they are called but they were expensive buggers) and my opponent rolled so abysmally for his Fear test that they ran off the table, darn wolves didn't pursue enough, but not before panicking two more units nearby!
These two proceeded to keep on running in subsequent turns, they just wouldn't rally. It was insane. You'd expect that from Goblins or Skaven but Wood Elves?! Ouch.
I've seen a lot of insane stuff happen with Fear causing units.

My best kill ever was a Tzeentch Chaos Lord on a Disc of Tzeentch with a Jezzail. I started at the first turn and I just kept on shooting at him, my opponent put his trust in Tzeentch and didn't move him out of range thinking his awesome Ward save would save him....
Points-wise Jezzails are pretty expensive but not as expensive as a fully tooled up Sorceror Lord. After the battle I picked this lone ratty team out, re-modeled and re-painted them and they've now been upgraded to sniper-team(thanks to the new army book it can be upgraded) cheesygrin
I'm thinking of putting a blue Chaos-helmet on the base.

She was in great pain! Then we cut off her head, and drove a stake through her heart, and burned it, and then she found peace.

My most infamous among my gaming friends is Konrad charging Orion in a game I had against my Wood Elf mate, that Ballista-bow thing killed him in one. He now has a Ghoul-head with GS hair on his base as a trophy.

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

God I could fill this thread with a hundred tales of excpetionally bad luck, I really don't know how I do it!

The best VC example would be that Lizardmen game where my Lord failed his stupidity three of the turns. The real kicker is that due to my not-half-bad play if even one of them had been passed, I would have been able to catch his Slann. On top of that my opponent managed 4 irresistible forces and no miscasts that game, nice...

My most recent example would of course be my last game. I was using goblins lead by Skarsnik and was absolutely whomping my High Elf opponent. After flanking them with a big archer on one side, I then managed to cast Hand of Gork on Skarsnik's unit trying to charge his White Lion unit with level 4 and level 2 (Even though I'd have lost a few goblins, Skarsnik would have annihilated them with his 8S5/6 attacks). However, my unit was 5" away and the spell only moves you 2D6, so I rolled 3" and failed the charge, damn. Then in combat, the flanked White Lions killed 3 Goblins and broke them, causing Skarsnik's unit to flee in panic; my next turn, I rolled 6-6 to rally and Skarsnik and his massive unit fled off the table through en enemy Bolt Thrower! Nice.

Sorry fella unless you rolled 1-1 to dispel, that's not luck, that's pure skill, well done to your opponent :thumb:

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

played in a 3 player 1500 point game Bretonnia, Drawfs,VC (me)

At this low level of a game I figured I would be ok leaving my general as a level one wizard on my first magic phase I try to cast Van Danse and miscast and then rolled a 10 on the miscast table.

My General took a strength 8 hit and lost a magic level so the rest of the game I was only a fighter and my points spent on summon ghouls was wasted.

Last year a friend(lizardmen) and my self played an epic 10K per side game
He brought 3 Slann Mages with the power that makes your sixes not count, first Lord who was out of the Slanns range roles a total power on Raise Zombie Horde I chose the healing option.
Next 3 Lords also rolled total power for Winds of Undeath but sadly they are in the Slanns range and those roles don't count only thing missing was the "Wah Wah " sound you hear in the cartoons.

I was devastated, I rolled 4 total powers in a roll and haven't done it since and only 1 counted after that my dice just went cold and it was horrible roles for the rest of the evening.

The Keeper of Secrets that I use in my 40k Daemons army has an uncanny knack for losing valuable wounds to a lone Sergeant's bolt pistol. I often narrate it as well.
-"Yup, this one will hit..."
*Opponent rolls a hit*
-"...and just you watch now, it'll wound me on a 6."
*A 6 is rolled*
-"And now I'll fail my saving throw."
*Rolls a 3*

It's always that damn 3! Vampire2

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

Mmm, Worst luck is probably a tie between Abbadon's daemon weapon failing and then Kharn proceeding to hit Abbadon with 5 of his attacks, and then getting fisted. The other part of the tie is 15 TH/SS terminators dying in two turns of tau pulse rifle shooting. Best luck is the same game a lone sergeant rampaged through his entire army.

Sanai Bieber is my spiritual liege. Copy and paste this into your signature if you agree. If not, you will never be an ultramarine.

Well, if Justin Bieber belonged to any chapter, it would be the ultramarines. Of course, the holy inquisition would then be called upon to purge the entire chapter.

The teal text was always me. And mothrafighting me.

You know, now I think of it, I have never seen Zanos and Justin Bieber in the same place at the same time....

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

Best luck I've had was winning against a medium demon list with Orcs and Goblins. I had 4 bolt throwers; he had a Bloodthirster coming up the side where only 2 bolt throwers could see him. In 2 shots, I took off 5 wounds. Granted, the probability wasn't that hard (I beileve it was 4's to hit, 4's to wound, and 2/3 chance of him failing his ward save, so a 1/6 chance of wounding the Thirster per bolt. I finished off the thirster with an Explosive Goblin suicide charge later in the game. The rest of my army was mainly large blocks of goblins and orcs, and I was able to generate enough CR to beat demons.

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

I had a funny moment the other day when I was playing with my Dwarf project.
I was firing with my cannon (which had rolled a '10' on it's range addition the first turn and entirely overshot it's target, and the second turn had rolled a 'cannot shoot' misfire), which overshot it's target (a unit of Treekin) and hit four models in a nicely-packed unit of Dryads. My opponent prepared to roll his Ward Saves, but I told him I still had to roll to would. As I rolled, he asked me the fateful question;
"How do you fail to wound with a cannon?"
I showed him the roll to wound. Four 'ones.'
Oops.

Before responding indignantly, please consider the above post to be laden with the following smiley: cheesygrin

Best Luck: played in a 4 player 1500 point game Lizardmen,High Elves,Orcs,Vampire Counts (me)
have to score points off a minimum of two players, most of my combat was against the Orcs and we each had an unit headed toward the Lizardmen also I was going last in the turn rotation.

Orcs had a two Squigs that was just under two inches shy of charging an unit of Sarus warriors with a BSB, I was still too faraway and marched block to boot but I was able to Van Danse into the Squigs wipe them out and over run into the Sarus warriors with my Grave Guard and a Vampire hero.

Sarus Warrior BSB issues a challenge I accept with my unit champion, BSB fluffs his 6 rolls and the unit champion takes him down with a killing blow rest of the GG and Vampire break the unit.

total underdog game coming from last place to wining all in the last round felt like Rocky

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

This one happened last Sunday....

My GG unit, containing Champion, Vampire BSB and Vampire Lord w/Hatred vs Temple Guard w/Slann. 2nd round of combat, my Lord, BSB, Champ and 2 GG ALL fluff thier attacks (including the hatred re-rolls), lose combat by 12. Ensueing crumble leaves just the front rank (Lord, BSB, Champ + 2 GG) standing. Survivng front rank then proceeds to grind down the Temple Guard over the following combat phases until only the Slann is left, at which time the game ends.

I'm handing out Ass kickings and Lollypops, and i'm all outta Lollypops.

RE: Share your best/worse lucky/bad luck in-game experience

Ah, I will always remember a certain battle where a friend and I played against a guy who wasn't a really fair player. We didn't really like his bragging and cheating. I was playing VC by the time, aswell!

I used up most of my points by having a huge Black Knight regiment backed up by a Black Coach and a Vampire (went into the BK-unit).

He immediatly charged his beloved Dragon Princes right on my sweet, partially rotting, armoured undead ass. The unit immediatly broke (on the freakin' charge!), and was overrun. He gave up right away.

Now comes the funny part. Normally, I would never secretly enjoy when another player screws up, but he was just the worst type of person. Right after the battle, ten seconds after giving up, he tried putting his elven horsemen into his box, but failed miserably. His Dragon Princes went to the cold, concrete floor, and broke into several parts. I believe every one of them got damaged in some way.

After him having cheated and bragged and being a bully, my revenge was total, and his rage abysmal. I walked away, enjoying one of the most sweet, evil, moments of my life. Afterwards, I regretted having so much fun on his account, but as I said, some people deserve it. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long while.

I may seem like an asshole now, but I must say that I've never felt so evil ever since. I was merely degrading myself to his level.
