Vampire Counts Rumours

We've been hearing some rumours by now. But since High Elves are first to be released, also getting a lot more 'rumour' attention at the moment, rumours about the VC are pretty scarce.

Confirmed rumours (as far as I know of):

- Apparantly we get new Skeletons, possibly new Zombies too.
- There is going to be a box with Dire Wolves and Bats together (I find his unlikely).
- Wraiths are going back into rank and file units.
- The Plague Cart reappears in the army list.
- Possibly simplified Ethereal rules.

Unconfirmed rumours (more of the outrageous shouts I heard):

- Ethereals becoming "just" T7
- Ghouls back in rank and file.
- Zombies becoming Skirmish and T4.


VC player wants (as far as I know of):

- Skeleton Light Armour being +1 pt per model.
- Black Coach being immune to S7 attacks.
- More useful magic items.
- Being able to take a vampire as general in battles under 2k.
- Fear being reworked, as the sudden addition of immune to Fear units nullify any Fear-effects.
- Zombies becoming 1 point cheaper.
- Addition of a Shooting unit (crossbows, cannons), or an Ogre unit (Werewolves, Flesh Golems).

My biggest wish is for a shooting unit, no matter how crap our BS and a viable challenger for the rare slot, currently the Banshee is the only thig worth taking.
I love the Black Coach mini but there is so much S7 out there that can take it out pronto!
Lets see if the plague cart rumours are true and if so how will it be protected...

I'm not sure about having shooting units, but it would be cool with skeletons with crossbows or something like that. A monster unit would be very welcome, so that our BK was not the only hard hitting ting. Though not werewolves, as that have too much "chaos" in it.

I completely agree on the other ting on the "wish list".

Do you know what time the new VC will be released?

I would love it if the plague cart sort of followed the old rules ie a mobile grave marker/bound raised dead unit. Make it a light chariot like the Khemri and it wont be THAT over powered.

With the new magic rules in the 7th edtion we need item that help us get a slightly more stable magic phase as we do need that in order to do well in the games, - i know some here will disagree with that comment but even if just based on the fluff we need to be good at magic to get the army in the first place.

A "ogre type unit" would be nice if just for the conversion option

But i think over all the main improvements i would like to see is in the rank and file (as once fear is nulified we are screwed) and for vampire to be about in smaller games (under 2K we do have trouble

Cant seem to get 'quote'to work?
Anyway agree with Lord F there, we really need to be able to get magic casting vamps in under 2K, that would be a major improvement, sick of having weakling necros hiding away in zombie bunkers...
And I like the plague cart idea, I have heard it will be pulled by zombies and the more wounds you do, the more zombies rise to pull it, not sure where I heard that though....

Werewolves manipulated into the VC army... Great food for fluff stories!

Dunno why GW ever said they were mutated in the Chaos Wastes and hence Chaos-ish, but in other stories Werewolves were definantly considered a part of Vampire retinues and hosts, although arch-enemies.

On the other hand... it does make the VC force a bit more cliche...

I think were-wolves would be awesome, but they are too BoC ish. Would be incredibly awesome though. All I really want is better bloodline powers and more points to spend on them. And plague carts, lots and lots of plague carts

Fell Bats and Bat Swarms in a single unit is entirely feasible - look at the Clan Moulder boxed set. It would be a 'creatures of the night' boxed set.

Skellies with crossbows sounds not that bad plus as mentioned before no matter the low bs "well hopefuly not lower than 3" they could add to the whole fluff. Oh and maybe for each skeleton crossbowmen unit vamps may be able to put a cannon too.

Now regarding werewolves...they used to be enslaved by vamps and made them their bodyguard so there's nothing wrong with that. Eventually some werewolves escape the vampires mind control and run free but that would be just the exception.

So having werewolves as special or rare would be quite fun to play with.

*Bodyguard "If vampire joins unit all werewolves can issue and denny challenges.

A werewolf in terms of appearance and concept is going to be pretty close to a Strigoi Vampire. I would rather not be having to field a Strigoi Vampire lookalike when I have the real thing - an absolute combat monster.

I find werewolves unlikely, as it would be a cliche, which Gw are trying to avoid, I believe, and we already have wolf form. However, I would much prefer werewolves to flesh golems!

What I'd like to see is GW making skells the cheapest unit.
If the make zombies into skirmishers then there would be no choice right?

I long for the days of really big swarms of skells. And I don't mean the tomb kingish crap. smile

Although, as you say, Count Guillaume, it could seem a bit cliched, I love the idea of Werewolves! Also, VC armies have been hampered by the lack of shooting troops, although the VC book does mention Skeleton Bowmen. Probably because most Vampires do not feel comfortable around sharp, pointed objects!
For artillery, would they have trebuchets, rather than new-fangled cannon?

I have to admit, having seen the new elves, I am hoping for some inspiring stuff, and the plague cart could be one of these. I agree with FarOlaf on not having a war machine as standard (can always take one as DOW, appropriately converted).

Given the tendency for balance, if we gain shooting, we will likely lose something elsewhere.
