WarlikeRogue's VC Plog

Hi all,

So I decide to keep a painting blog here as I work through getting my newly bought VC army tabletop ready.

Here is my army as it stands.

In that pile of plastic is three Necromancers, three Vampires, 20 Ghouls, 40 Skellies, 20 Grave Guard, and 60 Zombies.

First up to paint

Zombie Hoard!!!

I've already made a start with the easiest to paint zombies to work out the colour scheme. I'm quite impressed with the result.

Twelve down, forty eight to go.

Hey there,

and welcome to this part of Carpe Noctem! smile

I like the start of your army, a big pile of bones and bodies. Nice! wink But you've got loads to paint, which is not a bad thing, but don't get overwhelmed by the numbers.

The rotten skin on those zombies look perfect! Thumbs Up

Have you decided on a colour scheme for your skellies and GG? smile

Thanks for the welcome Boo, I'm not worried about painting large numbers. Ironically in the past I've found large unpainted units alongside me on my painting desk keeps me motivated rather than the other way around. I must be weird or something wink

As far as colour scheme goes, all I've really decided on is a royal purple as the main contrasting colour for my army. I think it really suits the background of a certain breed of VC to have a really rich colour like that.

RE: WarlikeRogue's VC Plog

Thanks for all the positve replies guys,

The painting method is simple, which is what you want I suppose with 60 zombies to paint.

1.Undercoat Black
2.Basecoat of Vallejo Dead Flesh (Not sure of the name of the GW colour maybe Rotting Flesh?) Make sure you get good coverage. Two or three watered down coats rather that one big thick coat. I find this bit the hardest on my patience.
3.A solid wash of Thrakka Green
4.A selective wash of Ogryn Flesh (around the eyes, mouth, fingers, and anyother recesses you think need it)
5. Quick re-highlight of Dead/Rotting Flesh
6. Job done

Welcome to CN!

Really like the shade you have got on your Zombies, it looks fantastic. Look forward to seeing what you do with the rest of your models.

As its been said before i like the greenish tones you've used on your zombies, are all your zombies going to be painted in the same tones to create uniform or randomly skin toned to show different ages/stages of rot and decay?

look forward to seeing more smile

Thanks Veiled, at the moment more for ease of painting than anything else I am planning to paint them all the same way. Also I think I've found a skin tone I like so I'll stick with it. cheesygrin

RE: WarlikeRogue's VC Plog

sounds good to me smile like i said when the whole hordes done they should look slightly unified which will look lovely on the tabletop and will help tie it to the rest of the army.
kinda wish i'd done all my zombies in similar skin tones.. too late now though

Thanks man, i'll take that as the ultimate compliment of my colour scheme.

Well I've finished up those last eight zombies to get the first batch of twenty finished. The easiest twenty zombies finished first mind! Thumbs Down

Here are the second batch I've painted up

And the full unit of twenty

So twenty down, forty to go.

I hope the bases are finished because they look great as they are. That's the way earth looks when it's been dug and worked. These zombies are clawing themselves from the ground and leaving mud and scraps of grass behind them.

I used to use quite similar scheme on my Confrontation: Age of the Rag'narok undead army, but I made mine a little darker:
- Vallejo Dead Flesh for a basecoat
- Devlan Mud for a general wash
- Thraka Green and Badab Black for selective washing
- Dead Flesh again for the first highlight
- GW Rotting Flesh for the extreme highlight
- Glaze of watered down Devlan Mud to bring it all together

I've also tried some different schemes, where I mixed Devlan Mud with Thraka Green 1:1 and used that mix for a general wash over Dead Flesh and for some time now I am thinking of Dheneb Stone instead of Dead Flesh as I do not like the greenish tone in Dead Flesh.

Unfortunately, I do not have any good pictures of models painted this way, the only pics I've got are from a tournament. Look at the big guy in the middle, especially his chest shows the effect somewhat: picture
