Hello all!

Tonight I'm taking the night off to simply sit and browse the forums while I look at ordering new brushes. While I do enjoy painting every night, sometimes it's nice to sit back and just let my imagination go to let new ideas spring forth. While looking around, I notice at times that people hit a "rut" in a mini they're working. I know exactly what that feels like. You work hard on a mini for a wile then you just can't find a way to buckle down and finish the small stuff on him.

Here's a plan. Let's all paint a miniature together. Would anyone be up for this?

We'd all get a mini that is easily acquired by the majority of those interested and we walk through it together; from the priming all the way up to the clear-coating, we'll all be in it together.

We can all post our pics to show progress as we move forward, and I'll update this main post to serve as the "Step by Step" or "Current Step" that we'd be on.

I think this would be a very fun and exciting exercise in modeling and painting and would help each other out with new techniques along with tips and tricks that could be exchanged with each other.

So let's hear it; anyone interested?

I'm in! Depends on the model, though. I've got tons of stuff unpainted, so as long as it's not an obscure character I'm game!

Skeleton, Grave Guard, Corpse Cart, Etc. Bring it on, anything to get another mini done!

I just mostly finished 7 wolves. I'm uploading pics now, so I feel like I'm on a roll.

Would this be like one of those things in WD when they get each artist to paint the same mini? Like with the chaos lords and the empire mages?

How about we make it so that we all unveil the final result of our minis on the same day (WIP just as we do em, but the finished articles at the same time)

That sounds like a real sweet deal! but i too think, it depends on the model. personally i dont like the artosian vampire becaquse its way out off my armytaste.
Id rather paint somethingelse. a single dude/chick. But is it like, you all need the same base model? if so, we cant do spirit hosts or other stuff...
so, will it be strictly 'how to paint' or could you go berserk on GSing a total different model to look like another one?

either way, it sounds great. and if i get to the store on time, once i see which model it is, and if i like the model.

Great ideas.

My thought would be that we take a poll and get some ideas
of models that we all like and could acquire. Whichever model gets the highest approval we can all do together.

Now would you want this to be like a step by step or like a guide to consider while I paint mine, you paint yours in your own way? If it's the first of the two, I can take the time to demonstrate some techniques (blending, osl, ect).

To be honest I am thinking the Sartosan Vampire might be a good idea, as it is a great model that would work in most armies.

I think it would be good if we are painting in stages, if you paint your stage first to give us all tips etc, then we all do that stage ourselves. Once everyone has done that stage (allowing for a reasonable amount of time), then the next stage starts.

we can all learn from the master painter if its step by step...and my painting at least would improve!

I agree about the reasonable amount of time DoN suggests. The problem i see arising is whensomeone doesnt have the colour paint needed for the next step! That'd be a pain.

Sounds like a fun idea to me, as uga bug said thoug, the only thing that worries me is not have the right paints/tools but I aim to get the full GW range asap as I have about half already and I need new brushes for small detail.

Only other thing is I'm a crap painter with little patience for detail and dry time lol.

Well, this will certainly teach you patience!

I can divide painting the miniature into so many steps per so many weeks. It'll be a bit longer than what people could be used to, but it'll make people look at painting a bit differently, especially as people begin to get feedback from each other.

About supplies, I can go through and create a brief list of what I think would be good to get/do to prepare for the process. You don't need to have exactly what I have, something similar or to your own tastes should work.

Great idea. I'm in. My suggestion would be for the winged vampire lord, he's got a nice variety of surfaces, the armour, flesh, some nice base detail and there's the more unusual section of the wing itself, but I also love the Sartosan vampire, he's super detailed.
