Workable Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon in under 600 points? Help!

Heya guys!

I want to make a tournament sized Vampire army led by a lord on dragon. I know its not the most point efficient thing on that size games, but I love the mini to much. Want it in.

So what do you guys think would be a good gearing? I'd prefer a combat typ ofcourse. and if I can give him any cannon protection that would be great, but not being able wouldnt stop me from using him either.

You looking for 600 points or less, or 625? (ie. you playing 2400 or 2500 points?). Either way, it should be doable without caster levels/eq. You have 135 or 160 points for equipment/powers.

Heavy Armour, Shield, Dread Knight, Quickblood, Ogre Blade and Talisman of Preservation on a Dragon is 599 points.

Fantasy: Vampire Counts - 4k, Bretonnians - 3k, Dark Elves - 2k, Beastmen - 2k
40k: Eldar - 6k+, Chaos (Emperor's Children) - 3k, Dark Eldar - 2.5k, Sisters of Battle - 2.5k,

My Biel-Tan Eldar (2k - Mixed list)

Not sure you can take any Cannon protection other than the Iron Curse Icon...

If you are taking a Lord on Zombie Dragon that leaves you 135 points for powers and wargear.

Nightshroud is very good since it strips strength bonus from all enemy in base contact so the Dragon's T6 will be difficult to injure. I would want a Ward save to keep the Lord alive and a magic weapon just in case.

599 Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon with
Nightshroud, Talisman of Preservation, Heavy Armour, Shield, Quick Blood, Warrior Bane Sword, Iron Curse Icon.

Gives a 2+ Armour and 4+ Ward and ASF at Init 7.

Since it is the same model you may be better off with the Ghoul King on Terrorgeist?

I'd swap the mundane shield for the Charmed Shield for protection from at least 1 cannon ball.

Yeah, I was just tossing out an example. It's not a model that I would use as my general. 135/160 points is quite a bit of points and allows several options...

Fantasy: Vampire Counts - 4k, Bretonnians - 3k, Dark Elves - 2k, Beastmen - 2k
40k: Eldar - 6k+, Chaos (Emperor's Children) - 3k, Dark Eldar - 2.5k, Sisters of Battle - 2.5k,

My Biel-Tan Eldar (2k - Mixed list)

How about something like

Vampire Lord
- Zombie Dragon
- Glittering Scales
- Quickblood
- Shield
- Sword of Striking
- Talisman of Preservation
- Other Tricksters Shard

That comes in at 598 points.

I know I've only given him Light Armour but he is 6's to hit in combat by anyone less than WS 8, he's got 5 Attacks which will hit most people on 2+ with rerolls. He can flap up to units and assassinate characters out of units, just directing attacks into them when you should get 5 S5 hits on them making them re-roll their wards.

The Charmed shield is great, and I might even give him Curse of the Revenant. I know its expensive, but hear me out. Sources which cause 1d3 wounds cannot kill you with one hit, even if they get lucky. Sources which cause 1d6 wounds have 66% chance of killing you normally if you fail the corresponding test/ward save. With the Curse it goes down to 50%.

So something like Heavy armour, Charmed shield, Talisman of Endurance, Lance, Quickblood, Curse of the Revenant
