BadHand Zombie Dragons approaching (possible NSF or whatever warning, I'll let you know when)

OK, hello Ghouls and Gals......ahem.

As My ZD and also Sanais ZD don't seem to be getting as much attention as they should, we thought we'd get this beautiful creature raised and causing havoc together, along with anyone else that would like to take up the challenge.

I think that deadlines should be part of the process and we would like to set up a deadline for all key components of the model.

I propose something like this as sections,

1:Dragon itself

I:Gory bits ( I know that is pretty much everything on a ZD but I mean exposed muscle, guts, entrails, tongue and the such)

II:Skin (exactly what it is)

III:Bone, Horns, Teeth and such.

IV:Details ( Chains, Skulls, Totems etc.)

2: Rider

I: Armour

II:Skin

III:Bone, Skulls, Horns, Teeth and such

IV:Details

3:Base.

As far as the deadlines for each phase/section are concerned is open to discussion before we get started. I for one would love to be able to keep to something that is structured and easily accomplished allowing enough time though to do as much detail as wanted and achieve our own personal desired finish.

I think One week per two steps should be sufficient, being Two(2) weeks for the Dragon itself, and Two weeks for the rider. One Month to completion from the date specified as starting and initial assembled primed photo.

This exercise will also allow us to comment and explore the problems and advantages of pre construction preferences as well as painting techniques, all of which should be documented in posts (The deeper the better confused ).

Please let us know if you are game, also if you want to participate with a Terrorgheist you are more than welcome and the same steps will be applied.

Anyone interested comment on your schedules and thoughts on the propositions above (Sanai). Lets get this together!Zombie1

Wait, are you suggesting to build the model in advance for everyone? Or just they should talk about how things went for them according to how they did it?

I have a Terrorghiest lying around I'd love to get painted; I haven't even bothered looking into modeling it quite yet though (It may be missing a base Zombie1 ) as well, I have no idea how I'm going to 'Pre-construct' it without gluing it in place. I really can't stand the idea of painting it after I build it, but I would really like to get an idea of how I'm putting it together, or such before hand.

RE: Zombie Dragons approaching (possible NSF or whatever warning, I'll let you know when)

Hmm, ill probably paint my dragon sub assembly by sub assembly, Itll work better for me that way.
Im just glad I still have all the sub assemblies, for a terrible few minutes I thought I had lost the neck/throne sub assembly and the guts/spine/tail sub assembly.
I am going to paint it in the order of the assemblies in the instructions:
The first Assembly I will paint will be the Head & Kneck Assembly, Which I have divided into 3 Sub-Assemblies:
The Kneck/Throne Piece
The Left Head/Horn/Teeth Assembly
The Right Head/Horn/Teeth Assembly

The Second Assembly is the Body Assembly, consisting of the following sub assemblies:
Guts+Spine/Tail
Left & Right Rib Pieces
Upper Rib Pieces

Then, After those 2 assemblies are painted and assembled, I can glue the Head/Kneck Assembly to the Body Assembly.

Next, is the two wing Assemblies: Each consisting of a wing and a shoulder bone, and the legs as individual parts in of themselves.
Then, after those are all glued on, comes the base rock assemblies, and painting the base itself.

Then, after all of that is done, all I will need to do is paint my vampire lord to ride the vampire, and the mk1 of my vampire lord who is just the basic non converted ZD rider who will be my vamp lords stand in if my general ever rides a coven throne or something else in a high pts game where there is a dragon and a coven or something.

RE: Zombie Dragons approaching (possible NSF or whatever warning, I'll let you know when)

Yes exactly, so get it ready how ever you want, Sub assemblies, Full assembly, Component parts or still on the sprue, it's up to the individual. Once you have Primed your model post a picture up and when the start date is decided we get cracking.

I also think it would be nice to plan out the steps you are going to take before each step/week starts and any changes to your intentions at the end of the step/week and document them along with your WIP pictures.

For example,

Week 1 start:
Gore: Over a white base-coat I intend to do successive Washes of Devlin mud and Baal red concentrating the last of them in the deepest recesses to create a progressive contrast to the muscle tissue and over all muscle structure.

Week 1 end:
Gore: F@#$ that noise, worst B@#%^Y week of my life! Never glue a model together before you paint the F#$%^&@ thing.....GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Etc. Zombie1

That sounds good Sanai, so what about a time frame on those individual pieces?

6 steps for yours right,
1:Neck and head components
2: Torso components
3: Two wings together?
4: Two legs together?
5: Base
6: VL. Correct?

A week a step or quicker?

RE: Zombie Dragons approaching (possible NSF or whatever warning, I'll let you know when)

Okay, heres the painting plan, but its all subject to change when I pick up a brush:

Gore: Probably Hormagaunt purple, followed by warlock or liche purple highlights, followed by a Leviathan purple wash (Im trying to avoid having red gore in my miniatures, going for a more necrotic effect or something)
Bone: Khemri Brown basecoat, followed by devlan mud wash, followed by beached bone drybrush, followed by skull white highlights, followed by badab black wash.
Flesh: Chaos Black Basecoat, followed by highlights using Wraith Black (a mixture I made)
Metal/Chains: Probably boltgun metal followed by a badab black wash and mithril silver highlights.
Rider: Flesh as per the banshee part in the mortis engine tutorial, armour as per the metal above, sword as per bone
OSL: Possibly will attempt frost breath style OSL around the mouth/teeth of the zombie dragon.
Frostblade: Alternate Rider will have his blade painted the same as my grave guards blades- Regal Blue basecoat, Ultramarines Blue highlight, Enchanted Blue highlight over that, Ice Blue, Skull white, Asuramen Blue Wash.

Each step will probably take a different amount of time, but they should average out to 1-3 days each step.

Quote:highlights using Wraith Black (a mixture I made)

Woooooo hooooo hoooooo Can't wait to see that

OK so this is shaping up to be very tight and controlled with quite easy and realistic time frames.

Only the ZD for now,

Gore: I'll think I'll start with a 1:1 mix of Mechrite Red:Dheneb Stone as base followed with successive washes of Baal Red, Devlin Mud and a little Leviathon Purple as I like the sound of your Necratic colours but I don't want to straight rip your scheme off.

Skin: Knarloc Green base with same washes as for Gore to tie it together.

Bone: Staight washes of Devlin Mud and Baal Red over a very thin (extremely thin) coat of Khemri Brown:Dheneb Stone 2 or 3:1 as base.

Details: Skulls and Bone will be based in Charadon Granite and highlighted with progressive amounts of Dheneb Stone added. Chains Bolt Gun with same washes as above concentrating on purple and a BGM highlight to finish.

I think between 4 days to a week a step for me depending on screams for attention from Hugh.

I'm liking all this planning, This gonna be gooooooooooooooooood!Perv

Looking really good! I'm liking the scenic base too. What did you make the rushes from? Are you going to paint it using washes?

Commissions available.

Well thank you U-M, the base is almost finished so that will obviously come off the time for this excercise.

I think I will go mostly washes with the whole model, a simple flat, light undercoat for each colour stage and then only washes, I'm going to try to avoid any actual highlights on the skin, gore and bone.

The rushes are from a 1" cheap ass paint brush.

I can't wait to see everyone elses minis.Zombie1

Here is my dragon in its constituent assemblies/sub assemblies-
On the top left, is the body/tail assembly, on the top right the head/kneck assembly, and below them- everything else (because everything else pretty much attaches to those assemblies)

and here is my progress on the first sub-assembly of the head/kneck assembly- the Tongue to Throne Sub Assembly.
Here is how I painted the purple:
Hormagaunt purple basecoat
liche (or was it warlock) purple drybrush
Badab Black Wash
Undead Flesh Basecoat Highlights (Undead Flesh Basecoat is a 2:1 mix of Tallarn Flesh and Liche Purple)
Leviathan Purple Wash

The bone is not yet finished, but so far has been basecoated khemri brown and washed with devlan mud.
