first try with vampires... 2250 pts

alright... hello. This is my very first attempt to create a vampire counts army list. My only fear is that i have spent way to much on characters. But i guess you guys will let me know.

Lords - 375

vampire lord
talisman of preservation, flayed hauberk, black periphat (spelling?), biting blade, forbidden lore, dark acolyte, lord of the dead

(ok. my plan for him is to let his saves keep him safe while he raises extra skeletons. he will choose his spell lore on the fly based on my opponents. extra level is to help keep his casting results up so the darn level fours out there dont just despell every time he raised)

Heroes - 560

necromancer - 95
summon ghouls, dispell scroll
(mainly just to raise, maybe with zombies?)

necromancer - 190
extra spell (raise dead), sceptre of noitre (spelling?), corpse cart with lodestone
(basic plan is to set him behind the lines and let him raise new zombie squads, going to be one of two center pieces in the army... this is the only thing thats non-negotiable in the list. ha ha ha)

vampire - 165
tomb blade, enchanted shield, walking death
(with the skeletons for sure.... can raise more in multiple ways, adds to combat res... gave him shield just cause he needed something for armor.... still its very low...)

wight king - 110
sword of kings, dragon helm
(solid combat character... good with killing blow 5+, cheap, decent armor. With grave guard)

ANY THOUGHTS ON CHARACTERS? this was the hardest part for me.

Core - 770

corpse cart with lodestone - 100

skeletons - 230
25 strong, command, banner of hellfire
(wanted to make them 40 strong with spears (10 wide) for 4 ranks of attacks, but didnt have the points. planning on making them maybe 7 wide? then raising them as much as possible with the lord and main necromancer)

30 zombies - xxx
(nice and meaty)

40 zombies - xxx
(super extra meaty)

10 ghouls - xx

10 ghouls - xx

special - 343

glade guard - 343
24 strong, command, warbanner

(mainstay unit i suppose. will have the wight king and maybe the second vampire.)

rare - xxx

black coach - xxx

my main concern is not having enough models... my second concern is that i dont have anybody doing the danse spell for first strike.... my third concern is that i spent to much on characters...

What do you guys think?

Since I'm quite new to the game myself I can't give you that much advice on how to build your army (need help on that myself), what I can tell you is that a necromacers can not take vampyric abilities (like summon ghoul) and characters can not join zombies.

Lords and Heroes are the same, so the 2 points you seem to be under to meet the max points for Characters is actually over by 373, by your Lord pretty much. Lord also counts toward max characters, in which case you have one to many. I would suggest putting the 2 units of 10 crypt ghouls together into one unit, 10 has a good chance of being wiped out immediately. I personally don't like having Skeletons and Crypt Ghouls together, I go Skelies myself, you end up having what you got, 1 hero for CG and 1 Skelies, it'd be better to concentrate on just one. Many people have also told me that having both just doesn't seem to work out right. As for your second Necro, I believe you can always choose Raise Dead, so the extra spell to ensure you definitely got the it isn't needed. Your Vampire you may consider the Cadaverous Cuirass, better armor save, Killing Blow and Poi Attacks no additional effect and its the same cost as the ES. You may think 40 Zombies are meaty, but they can be mowed down very quickly.

Just had a read of this whilst looking for ideas and what I can tell you is that bahamutzer is wrong. You are allowed up to 25% Lords and up to 25% heroes. Meaning that you are not breaking the characters budget.

A correct observation, Zacharias, but also note that the thread is about 8 months old, which is back when 8th was still nothing but rumours.

Also, this thread seems to have ended up in the wrong forum for some reason, so I'll move it..

Thread moved to Legions of the Damned.
