jonnys strip and dip project

dont fear i will not be removing any of my own clothes! i will however be building up a 2k army using armypainter dips, strong tone and trying out there primers and varnish.
the stripping section is me having to clean my 300 strong zombie unit ready to repaint...........bah its going to take some time i belive-or not as the case may be if this goes to plan
feel free to comment on the progress or ask any questions you have along the way. i will be going for block colours with no highlights, i know this will not be a superbly painted army but it will idealy be neat and tidy ready for battle asap.
currently the army looks like on paper

50 zombies
50 zombies
50 zombies
40 skellys
30 grave guard
terrorgeist
and just one vamp
tho i will be sure to keep you up to date with the list as it evolves.

Blech! Stripping and repainting 300 zombies sounds like WAY too much work, and not fun at all.

Good luck!

RE: jonnys strip and dip project

I have to concur with Bishop here. This is a serious pain in the plums! If you're going to win at all it's with the dip. I'd be good to try and create some sort of rig that would allow you to dip say 5 or 10 at a go and shake them. It might speed things along a bit.

All the best, I'm as eager to see how your sanity stands this task as well as the end result!

I would have to say that is false advertising then.

I love the army painter's primer's there bone primer is the same shade as bleached bone. Just for the added info.

that is alot of zombies to strip and repaint. I don't envy you there but look forward to seeing all your hard work in the end result.

RE: jonnys strip and dip project

I saw the thread title and just for one moment......Perv

Anyway, sounds good. To be fair that many zombies sounds like a pain, but it would be even worse to paint them all, so dipping does sounds easier. Good luck!

Ouch ... That is going to be so much fun. Could you please let me know how easy the dipping part is? I plan on using the method for my skaven hordes smile

RE: jonnys strip and dip project

thanks guys for your support on this one. i was just intending to do 150 of the zombies so they were ready for a game or two. however i feel i should rise to the challange and try to re do the full 300. im away with work currently but should be able to get my hands on the hordes early next week.
i will even time the project to see if it is as easy as its claimed and note any difficultys or indeed shortcuts

RE: jonnys strip and dip project

I used the army painter strong dip in some models of skeletons, works good, but my mate varnish does not works so good eliminating the glow of the dip grin

Anyway good luck with your horde, with colours are you going to use for the zombies, dark greens, browns, none of them? grin

Over the last couple of days I have glued and painted 20 zombies, using basic colours and then dipping them into Army Painter Soft Tone Quickshade. This works very well, I would use the Dark Tone for Skeletons (basic white paint on bones) as this works a treat. I have previously used the Dark Tone but diluted it a little with methylated spirits, this makes it slightly runnier and less dark. I strongly suggest trying a couple of test figures first, this worked extremely well on my Plaguemarines and Nurgle Daemons (I love my digusting/dirty armies to look gritty and grimy). If you dilute it, put it into a seperate resealable jar (I use Moccona coffe jars with the glass and plastic lids). Once you have used a bit of the Quickshade, you may need a taller container (I dip mine, which is slow but does work well, I haven't tried painting the Quickshade on yet); especially for the models with spears etc.

I am Graf Wulfen Blut Schlosses (Count Wulf of Blood Castle), my realm is well within the "Border Princes", but it is mine all the same.

RE: jonnys strip and dip project

ive got some colour schemes in my head now. all the skellys will be done with armypainters bone colour and a strong tone over it. ive been on ebay and got a can ready for when i return to the uk alongside some matt spray also from ap. regarding the other colours i wanted to achive a regal colour so opted for purple, also this is my partners fav colour so i figured it may well get her to help out with the project a little. possibly some red for the smaller cloth colours as it will go well together.
eyes are a solid gw snot green then perhaps a lighter shade to make em glow.
zombies, ghouls and vamps im not too sure on the colour-perhaps gw chardon granit? i think it will be appropriate colours also i could use it for the terror geists skins. perhaps its too dark. any suggestions will be welcome.
thanks again for all the responses i cant wait to get started now

Break fluid is not only expensive but not nice for your skin. You ever tried Methylated Spirit? I find it shifts paint beautifully. It's dirt cheap and not too nasty on my sensitive skin.

Yeah meths is great. Far less potent and just as effective. personally I've not tried it on finecast so I wouldn't like to say however I've used it on other types of resin before including FW stuff.

All you do is put them in a bath of it. I would recommend a jam jar as it can be pretty smelly. I've left metal and plastic minis in it for several months before and they were fine (I accidentally lost a jar when I moved house once).

Give them a scrub with an old, soft toothbrush and job's a good'un as they say!

I know, the prices are astronomical ... Even my mum says how expensive they're getting and how they'll price themselves out of the market if they aren't careful ... Slap face

I used some dip on my zombies and skeletons and ghouls, I painted it on though, the whole shake it of think not really that great. And just dipping it comes on to thick for my taste.
I used a cheap brush from a set of 10 for 2 euro or so, works great.
