sea.man`s VC

Here are my first VC minis painted last year.
Neckrarch Vampire was my entry in Polish painting competition "Slayers of Deamons". Roses were sculpted in GS, tombstone was taken straight from zombie box.

NMM doesn`t look like metallic but it`s my first attempt so I might get better next time wink
[Image: wampir.jpg]

I am looking for theme and army colours are probably going to be purple.

I think you've done some brilliant work here. I'm particularily fond of your Blood Dragon Vampire's face - he looks very believeable and realistic (as far as it goes with Vampires, at any rate), in my opinion. smile

Agreed. Some brilliant work, those roses are awesome! They bring so much character to that Necromancer, standing amid the beauty of climbing vines....but bringing death and destruction wherever he treads. Almost poetic.

Committing vandalism one grey model at a time! Grey must go!

Rob has come, Rob has browsed;
Rob has quite leisurely lounged
Upon my bed, upon my chair,
His fingers curled in my hair.
And bits of him are everywhere.
Sad am I, but he must leave.
So I sent him off just Yestereve.

I do love your Necrarch model. Are the skulls on the cloak free-hand? A nice touch with the blue lightening on the sword.

Thank you for putting what I was thinking into words. Most definitely a superb addition to the base.

I am curious as to what model it is.

William Fisher - 1932-2008.

thank you all for nice compliments!
@MasterSpark
funny thing I have noticed that the eyes look purple, but in fact they are bloody red Vampire1
@Sirihar
the skulls I have painted myself, first they were white/brown/ bleached bone. they were outstanding too much, so I gave it a couple ow red/black washes and now they are less visible. It`s an old GW Neckrarch Vampire.

It does look purple but with a slight hint of red.

Once you do notice them, it adds to the model. Well done. How did you acquire it?

Judging by the quality of the models you have painted I think you stand a good chance in The Golden Bat painting competition. There are great prizes for the winners, so I'd strongly suggest that you participate.

Edit: Uhm... It seems you already did enter. Ah well I wish you good luck none the less (not that you need it though grin).

Power to the sheep!

That necrarch is simply amazing. I love detail and the base you have created for him. As MS said, the face on your Blood Dragon really stands out as well.

RE: sea.man`s VC

Whilst I personally don't believe that the bright colour scheme of the Blood Dragon evokes a truly vampire presence, it is well executed in its application. Overall, my favourite area of the figure is its face, which through your use of highlighting and deep recess shading has created a very convincing expression.

I know that bright doesn`t work nice here, but I found it good to practise NMM. Pity it has turned out more yellow than gold redface

The gold armour on the Blood Dragon is amazing, but the necrarch is just too good to describe so I won't bother trying :thumb:

RE: sea.man`s VC

Great effort with the NMM, it's really hard to get the hang of and you really have to leave your comfort zones, but you've made a really great effort. Can I suggest that you darken areas off using a` mix of the original colour and some black? Sounds scary but it'd really help to define the light and dark areas on the model. Also, to avoid the really yellow look try a Leviathan purple wash.

One of the best guides I have ever come across was in April's White Dwarf, the Blood Angels edition (WD 364) It has a really thorough guide to painting the Blood Angels Sanguinor model in NMM Gold, but also features extensive guides for painting NMM silver and curved surfaces. It's become a bit of a bible for me and I use it frequently for a variety of projects (including my Snow Vamp you commented on). You should still be able to get hold of it fairly easily but if you struggle, I'll try and make an extensive guide to NMM Gold and do a photo walkthrough.

Points to remember when doing NMM are:

1) Keep your paints thin to make the blends seemless
2) Shade the recesses as normal BUT also above/below areas of light to reiterate the impression of reflection
3) Sunburst yellow wash and Leviathan Purple are your friends when it comes to gold - don't be scared to go mad.
4) Practice - my first attempts used to look more like Bone rather than metal (note to self - post pictures up of SM Chaplains to illustrate).

I'm by no means an expert, as my NMM seems to get better every time, but I can help shed some light on the struggles and difficulties in getting it to look good.
