Another 1k VC List, with 3 Vampires!

Yes, it's me again.. Shooting for a 3 Vamp list this time.

Heroes:
Vampire: Carmilla *General*
Dark Acolyte, Lord of the Dead
Walach's Bloody Hauberk, Biting Blade
Moves with Skeletons

Vampire: Baron Meier Link
Dread Knight, Infinite Hatred
Black Periapt
Moves with Black Knights

Vampire: Count Chocula
Dark Acolyte, Summon Ghouls
Flayed Hauberk
Moves with Ghouls

Core:
19 Skeletons /w Champ + Standard
10 Ghouls
5 Dire Wolves
5 Dire Wolves

Special:
5 Black Knights w/ Barding

TOTAL: 998 pts

Hero Concerns: Carmilla only has 4+ Armour save, which isn't that great but also comes with a 5+ Ward save, which also isn't that great. I could give her the Flayed Hauberk and the Biting Blade and give Count Chocula the Walach's Bloody Hauberk instead, either way points will be the same.

Core Concerns: Very low core count. The 19 skeletons are fine since I'll potentially be able to raise them above 19, and with the Vamp that gives me 5x4 ranks. 10 Ghouls is pretty crappy but again it has the potential to grow if nothing gets dispelled. I'm pretty happy with 2 units of 5 Dire Wolves, gives me some much needed movement/flanking options, my only other idea is to run them in a single unit of 10 and go General or Monster hunting.

Special Concern: No magic banner or champ is a little worrying to me. I'd really rather not have the Vamp take any challenges if I can prevent it for a turn or 2 and not having ANY standard could be bad. The other problem is that they lose their Insubstantial mount rule because the Vampire would be joining them.

Overall Concerns: Having 3 Vamps affords me a lot of magic and dispel dice so hopefully I can spam summon, as well as giving each unit some serious stopping power against other heroes and characters. However, I lose a large number of points that could be used on many more core blocks from the beginning so I won't have to worry about having my summons dispelled. Also, since the BK lose their ethereal mounts, their effectiveness becomes pretty terrible outside of actual combat scores.

In the end, though, Magic phases scare me more than anything else so I guess that's why this list is so 1-sided toward magic.

My only other idea is to scrap Count Chocula and take away Carmilla's Biting Blade, get rid of the Dire Wolves, boost the Ghouls up to 19 strong and put Baron Meier Link with the Ghouls so that the BK get their Ethereal Mounts back and then take a Varghulf or 2x Cairn Wraiths w/ Tomb Banshee.

Hey everyone,

I've wanted to get back into roleplaying but have been declines the Gunhearts thread as I don't know a thing about the 40k world. I also know next to nothing about the Warhammer world; I read the armybook rules, but little fluff and even that seems to be scratching the surface. I'm new to the warhammer scene (~2 yrs of just the table top game) so I think it'll be a lot of hard work to get integrated.

With that in mind, I was thinking of doing a game of Mage. It would be an RPG where everyone is a fledgling 'mage' but not like a typical fantasy mage. The setting would be current day, but things would be a bit more darker, a bit more exaggerated. Think almost a sin city feel, but modern day.

Are people interested in this? It is an actual RPG but if people are interested, it would make for a better game the less they knew so they could find out about the world through roleplaying. Also helps build character. Low power game; I'm only used to table top RPGing so I'm not sure how things work too well in a forum sense. Seems to be a collaborative story telling so I'm not sure how well it'd work, but I think its worth a test run.

Any interest out there?

1950 Points Army

Hey guys, I’m trying out a 1950 point army for the first time, what do you think of this.
I want to go magic heavy, which is one of the reasons the second vampire isn’t a Wight King:

Vampire (general)
- Dark Acolyte
- Lord of the Dead
- Dispel Scroll
- The Flayed Hauberk

Vampire 2
- Walking Death
- Dread Knight
- Battle Standard Bearer
- Enchanted Shield
- The Balefire Spike
- The Cursed Book

Necromancer on corpse cart
- 2 x extra necromancy spell (very useful!)
- Book of Arkhan
- Black Periapt
------------------------------

Corpse Cart
- Balefire

15 Skeleton Warriors
Full command

20 Skeleton Warriors
Full Command

21 Crypt Ghouls
Ghast

20 Zombies
Musician

5 Dire Wolves

5 Dire Wolves
---------------------------------

4 Spirit Hosts

5 Black Knights
Barding
Full command, War Banner
---------------------------------
Varghulf

My main dilemma is whether to do something else with vampire 2. I just think I could use the Strength 7 and an extra dispel die, as well as maybe getting to resurrect a Black Knight or two. I like him being the BSB, as the unit has a static CR of 4, which I like.
But a Wight King wouldn’t steal their ethereal movement.. : /

Vampire 1 is to go with the smaller Skeleton unit, and raise them up to a larger size before combat is reached. The Spirit Hosts are to hold up chariots and other nasty, non-magical units, and should have plenty of wounds to do so.
The Varghulf is either to hunt war machines or wizards, or support the Black Knights.
Maybe a Black Coach would be better?

I’m going to be going up against Orcs, Skaven, Dark Elves, High Elves, Wood Elves () and Empire, so I really need an all-rounder.

Let me know what you think / would suggest! All contributions are gladly accepted!

Okay, so its not quite a VC thing (planning some "minotaur" conversions) but I'm looking for lion heads in a few different poses, and since combined resources of you wonderful people is > mine, and since I know your all a great bunch when it comes to this sorta thing, I'd like to ask your help... Can anyone tell me where I can get a hold of a close-to-warhammer-scale lions head (or several different ones by preference) so I can convert up some unique minotaurs?

Hey all, this weekend at my local gaming store i'm going up against a fellow whfb player who might be fielding any of a variety of armies (he has everything under the sun lol) but it will prob be up against empire this time.

This is my proposed army list for the 1,500 pt game....

Heroes

Vampire1 - General
- Black Periapt - Save one magic dice to use in next magic phase
- Helm of commandment - a unit gets to use your weapon skill if not in close combat
- Dark Acoylte - level 2 wizard upgrade
- lord of the dead - easier to raise skeletons, can buff beyond starting size

Vampire2 - warrior/caster hybrid
- Flayed Haubrek - 2+ armor save
- Tomb Blade - if in a unit of skeles, any slain models turn into skeles and join the unit
- Dark Acoylte - level 2 wizard upgrade
- Lord of the dead - easier to raise skeletons, can buff beyond starting size

Vampire3 - mounted warrior
- Dread Knight - equips with lance, heavy armor, shield, barded nightmare
- Blood Drinker - for every wound caused in close combat, the unit/bearer regains a wound
- Walking Death - +1 to combat resolution

Core:

Skeletons - 10
- Full Command
- HW + Shield combo

Skeletons - 19
- Full Command
- Spear and HW + Shield

Skeletons - 20
- Full Command
- Spear and HW + Shield

Special

Black Knights - 5
- Full Command
- Magic Banner: War Banner (+1 to Combat Resolution)

Rare

Cairn Wraiths - 4
- Tomb Banshee Upgrade

Total Points: 1496
Power Dice: 7
Dispell Dice: 5

Battle Plan / Tactics

My plan is a simple one. I will put my large blocks of skeletons on the front lines. One of these blocks will include Vampire2 -this will allow him to make best use of his high armor / magic weapon. These units will be primarily used for standard infantry duties.

Behind this main line will be the smaller block of 10 skeletons. Included in this unit will be my general. I plan on keep this unit in reserve and out of combat -to make best use of the helm of commandment. However, this unit will be commited if either of my skeleton blocks are in danger of being overrun.

The unit of wraiths will be positioned behind some obstruction off to the flank closest to my skeelton blocks. This will allow them to intimidate the enemy yet deprive him of line-of-sight for spells and magic shooting. They will be used as flankers once my skeleton blocks are engaged -which is why i plan on keeping them rather close due to slow movement values.

The black knights will be on the same flank as my wraiths but on the far side. They will have my mounted vampire in this unit (vampire3). With his vampire power of +1 combat res, and the warbanner (a further +1 combat res) and a full command they shouldn't suffer crumbles. The vampire has a lance but will not be able to use it due to the magic weapon which should keep the black knights at full unit strength coupled with casting. The role of this unit will be to circle around the enemy line and demolish any siege / casters / etc.... and to slam into any elite enemy units.

Also, 2 of my vampires will be buffing the skeleton units throuhout the entire game.

Please comment and critque this list. All ideas are welcome and will be considered ;-p

2250 pts vs Wood Elves

Greating folks

I'm in the process of creating an army for my next battle vs those damned Wood Elves.

I would greatly apreciate any and all help / hint you could provide

First of all, here's a special victory rule we'll be using : each army must select one "chosen" from their heros/lord. That "chosen" is worth 250 victory point. If a "chosen" slay the other "chosen" in close combat, it earn 400 victory point instead of the 250.

As this concern the victory point only, i'm planing to just ignore this. I don't think it's worth it to plan to get an expensive character into combat with god know's what just to get 150 points more. If i play well, the 250 point from the other player "chosen" will just be extra. Hopefully, the other player will get out of his normal game plan just to score those extra point. However, i do think it would be a good idea to select my general as a "chosen" just to deny him extra victory point.

Now, i've been reading lot's of topic on these board about how to battle wood elf. But i'm still uncertain about how i want to approach this game.

Obviously, i'm concerned about the sniping item wood elf have access to as they can harm me even in bunker if he get a shooting angle. So i'll need to protect my lord well even within a bunker.

I think i want to go with a heavy magic phase. As his magic phase will most likely be quite week. If i can dominate him in the magic phase, it might make up for the shooting phase i don't have.

Here's a first draft:

Caracters

Lord: + 1 magic level, Forbidden Lore, Master of the Black Art, Summon Ghouls, Wristbands of Black Gold, The Cadaverous Cuirass, Sword of Might, Helm of Commandment

I'm thinking of replacing the MotDA for Dark Acolythe and Avatar of Death. This give me a little less magic capability for some extra protection in close combat. What do you think ??

Vampire: The Book of Arkhan, Summon Ghouls, Dark Acolythe

Vampire: Summon Ghouls, Dark Acolythe, Dispel Scroll

Wight King, Battle Standard Bearer, The Darkenhof Banner

Should i take the Flag of Blood Keep instead as it's cheeper and will do mostly the same job ?? Should i mount him ??

I wanted to try to use the Hand of Dust or the Rod of Flaming Death as nasty surprise, are they worth it ? Is the rod doing flaming attack ??

I'm in the process of creating an army for my next battle vs those damned Wood Elves.

I would greatly apreciate any and all help / hint you could provide

First of all, here's a special victory rule we'll be using : each army must select one "chosen" from their heros/lord. That "chosen" is worth 250 victory point. If a "chosen" slay the other "chosen" in close combat, it earn 400 victory point instead of the 250.

Okay, let's try this again.

This will be my second attempt at a painting log for this army. I'm planning on taking it to a tournament late this summer, though, so that's my motivation for finishing it. That, and feedback from this awesome community!

Theme:
This is my Cthulu Strigoi Vampire Pirate army. The background fluff for this army places it at an abandoned lighthouse on rocky shores, so you'll see a lot of sharp rocks and shipwreck scenes. Ghouls feed heavily on the bodies of the wrecked ships -- unless the vampire gets there first and makes zombies out of the sailors and pirates. There are many tentacled monsters lurking in the dark waters and they are willing to fight for their share of bodies. A lesser god resides in the deeps off of shore and the vampires are learning drawing power from this ancient evil. In so doing, they are changing to something horrible. (And tentacled! )

Models:
I've been working on this off and on for a year. I have nearly completed building the army. There are a few models I want to replace and a few more I want to build/add, but all in all the army is coming along nicely.

Pictures:
Let's get into it.

This is one of my iconic centerpieces. When I imagined what the army would look like, this is one of the first models I wanted to build. The first time I saw the Varghulf, it occurred to me that he was angled perfectly to be hanging off something, so I put him on a sunken mast just above the crow's nest. I need to rough the nest up a bit, though, as it looks like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

My other "iconic" piece is a bat swarm made from Necromunda Ripper Jacks. I'll get pictures of that soon.

Someone gave me pieces to make 20 odd skaven. The rat tails were a godsend for this project.

---

One of my favorite pieces to make. An Abyssal Terror.

The Terror's little brother. I use the second model as a Hellsteed.

Again, rat tails to the rescue! Quick and easy tentacles.

---

Ghouls play a predominant role in my modelling. Here, they are combined with wings from a Hordes mini and given deamonette claws to make Fell Bats!

---

Replacing the lower jaw on a ghoul with the "hair" bit from a dryad gives you a nice, tentacled ghoul. Once I get more pictures of all of my ghouls, you'll see more bit-replacement. It makes for a fun project.

This piece isn't painted for this particular army, but I'm using him until I get more ghouls made up. I figure I'll need about 65 or so ghouls for my finished army.

More ghouls. The second picture showcases some of the basing I'm doing.

---

My proof-of-concept paint scheme. The picture (maybe the model) is too glossy, but it gives you a vague idea of color. I'm working on a way to fill all of the bases with water effects, which you can see here. This was my first time using the material, though, so it ended up bubbled and too dark. We'll see how future pieces turn out.

---

I'm a big fan of fillers, especially since pieces like this can be added to either ghoul or zombie units.

My first monstrous vampire. I'm not terribly happy with him, but I'm hoping he'll look better painted up.

---

I'm fairly excited about a number of other pieces I've got, but I don't have pictures of them yet. My hope is to get them up in the next couple of days, then do some painting.

This is by no means a "finished" project, so I'm always open to suggestions, ideas, comments or criticisms. My last couple of projects benefited greatly from comments from this group, so I'm hoping you'll help me out just as much with this one!

Hello my fellow Vampire lords. I just bought my first models and started assembling them. I'm not new to the Warhammer universe as I have commanded Bretonnians, Warriors of Chaos, and Dwarfs. I bought a VC battalion, Vlad, Mannfred, a banshee, 5 wights, ect.. I have another batallion on order, and will be converting up some blood knights as I cant see spending $90 on 5 models. I'll be lurking at the rear of your skeleton ranks observing your tactics and learning all I can before dropping my own undead horde on the table.
Nice to meet you all,

does anyone do any good with this set up? i am using it next week but it changes so many of my usual options. i am trying for max carnage with characters (obviously!) what i would like to do is swap infinite hatred for flying on the thralls. will this work? i am worried about a single phase of fluffed attacks wiping my heroes and lord out.

currently i have
4 str 6 red fury hatred attacks from the lord
7 str 5 hatred attacks from the thralls
3 str 5 attacks from a thrall
3 str 4 nightmare attacks (often the most effective! )

so vs empire swordsmen with 25 dudes, full command (not really fair as the points are far different). doesnt include their characters, challenges etc.
VC
lord 4 hit, 4 wound + another 4 wounds
Hthralls 7 *2/3 + hatred rerolls = 6 hits = 5 wounds = 1 save
Thrall = 3*2/3 = 2 hits = 2 wounds = say 2 unsaved wounds as the numbers are so small.
nightmares = 3*1/2*1/2 = say 2 = 1 or 2 wounds = 1 unsaved

so all in all i do 8+5+2+1 = 16 wounds in that first round attack. what happens if i lose hatred for flying on the thralls + nightmares?
10 attacks *2/3 = 7 hits = 6 wounds from thralls

so still do 8+6 wounds. The good thing is the 360 degree LOS to then do a zipper attack along the battle line.

Lord, level 3
sword of str, crown of stupidity, accursed armour, talisman of lycni
infinite hatred, red fury, walking death

whilst not being able to fly, this guy is still quick with move 9.

vampire
avatar, inf hatred
book of arkhan, sword +1 attack
nightmare

vampire
avatar, ghoulkin
hand of dust
nightmare

vampire
avatar, inf hatred

does anyone do any good with this set up? i am using it next week but it changes so many of my usual options. i am trying for max carnage with characters (obviously!) what i would like to do is swap infinite hatred for flying on the thralls. will this work? i am worried about a single phase of fluffed attacks wiping my heroes and lord out.

currently i have
4 str 6 red fury hatred attacks from the lord
7 str 5 hatred attacks from the thralls
3 str 5 attacks from a thrall
3 str 4 nightmare attacks (often the most effective! )

so vs empire swordsmen with 25 dudes, full command (not really fair as the points are far different). doesnt include their characters, challenges etc.
VC
lord 4 hit, 4 wound + another 4 wounds
Hthralls 7 *2/3 + hatred rerolls = 6 hits = 5 wounds = 1 save
Thrall = 3*2/3 = 2 hits = 2 wounds = say 2 unsaved wounds as the numbers are so small.
nightmares = 3*1/2*1/2 = say 2 = 1 or 2 wounds = 1 unsaved

so all in all i do 8+5+2+1 = 16 wounds in that first round attack. what happens if i lose hatred for flying on the thralls + nightmares?
10 attacks *2/3 = 7 hits = 6 wounds from thralls

so still do 8+6 wounds. The good thing is the 360 degree LOS to then do a zipper attack along the battle line.

Lord, level 3
sword of str, crown of stupidity, accursed armour, talisman of lycni
infinite hatred, red fury, walking death

whilst not being able to fly, this guy is still quick with move 9.
