Hi all,

I have finally got my replacement Varghulf model, Reapers own bakarathi hunter. However now I am at a bit of an inspirational roadblock.

I havent been able to find a single painted photo of him and I am a little stuck for ideas.

That be the model I am going to paint, I would be grateful if someone who has painted it before could put up a pic or for some ideas. The "breast plate" is going to be exposed muscle (red pink ish) but I am not really sure how to go about the other bits.

In fluff terms is a Lahmain (sp) vampire who was infected by a blood curse and has degenerated into Varghulf state. Weird fluff I know but I am currently in an escalation campaign with story attached and it fits in with the whole plot.

I was looking over the VC spells last night while sitting upon my throne of power... anyhow,

Summon Undead Horde comes in at a 12+ to cast for 3d6 Ws. This made me think...in 8th is this a better heal spell than Invo for units?

Follow me. You have 6 PD and need to heal your GG. You could 1d6 6 times but if you roll under a 3 you are done. So no go there. You can 2d6 3 times. You might get off 1-2 of these. Or you could 3d6 on SUH then you can go 2d6 and finally throw a d6.

It seems to me this is a better way to kill blocks in 8th due to the +3/4 to cast. Also you can randomly heal a wraith, varg, whatever and add some troopers.

just a thought guys. What do you think?

Still without a win in 8th Ed (but having plenty of fun anyway), i have been wracking my brains for ideas on new tactics (for me anyway).

So, i was thinking of the Vampire Thrall / Lord torpedo tactic to target enemy casters (using ghoulkin, flying horror, hellstead, nightmare, talisman of the lynci etc) so that i get a better chance in the magic phase (which i would like if only to get myl points worth out of my core units). However, i was thinking that some of my usual opponents would rather declare a Flee! reaction for thier wizard rather than stand and fight. If they do flee, i know that they wont be able to cast in thier magic phase (if they havent rallied, although they probably will with a BSB and general in range). However, i am struggling to find anything in the BRB (or errata / FAQ) that says that they cant dispel whilst fleeing.

Fluff wise, it seems obvious - if he cant cast, he cant dispel. But the rules for dispelling just say that you chose a wizard to dispel a spell. Is this truly the case? Have i missed something? Can you really dispel whilst running away? If so, i will probably have to rely on my charge distance roll beating his flee roll - not the precise strategy i was hoping for

Next question, the O&G Waaaagh! and animosity rules: Can these be used to move an orc or goblin unit into base contact (and therefore combat) with an enemy unit? I only ask, becasue i havent read the O&G army book, and if i send a thrall or lord that close to the enemy line or fail a charge and end up standing in the front arc of an enemy unit , i need to know what could happen.

Thanks for thoughts in advance

So here is a lose sketch:

2 x 28 Spear skellies + FC + Warbanner/+1 Rank Banner 604 pts
1 x 5 Blood Knights, musician 285 pts.
1 x 1 Black Coach 200 pts.
1 x 5 Wraiths 250 pts.
This should come to 2877 pts. Any suggestions will be welcomed
I'd like to squeeze in a WK BSB in the black knights, and are considering exchanging a rare choice for a varghulf. Any suggestions will be welcomed

Also I'm wondering whether I should go with a different lore than Lore of Bloodsuckers?

PS. I like my skellies, ghouls might be a better choice, but I like my skellies more and want a skeletal undead horde feel to the army

Hello again minions of dark deeds,

I was just wondering if anyone here has any expertise/knowledge with regards to Object Source Lighting. It's a technique I've never tried and quite fancy experimenting on the claw of Huron Blackheart, similar to this but not as strong. I suppose I want him to look like he is summoning a ball of energy. I'm pretty adept at NMM and have a good understanding of where light comes from/goes to, it's more about the aspect of painting it. For example, would the mini be painted as normal and then the OSL applied, or do you paint the OSL as you paint the mini?

If anyone has some spare guides or knows of some good links I'd be most obliged.

Please, I need a light in the black, or I'm afraid, I'll fear the dark!

I have always been a fan of Sword of Kings with Nightshroud.

But how is Tricksters Shard, Dragon Helm and Sword of Kings on a steed with Barding compared to the first?

With Nightshroud you are sure to be able to get 3 attacks before your challenger does.

With the other combo you are required to survive 4-5 attacks coming your way before you are to hit back, but there is a huge chance for your enemy character to fail hes wardsave if you are able to get a killing blow.

I dunno, anyone can think of a scenarios where Nightshroud really is the item to go for?

My idea would be to have another character next to the one in challenge with trickster shard. Two Wight kings: One with Nightshroud and Sword of Kings, and the other with Trickester shard next to the one in challenge.
(Just dont know how I will afford it in my army atm, or how models in challenge move to accept them. I think there is a chance your enemy model could move away from your other wight with Trickster's Shard.

What do you think? Is this a tactic that would work every time, or only if your enemy does a mistake?

Well it's time again for another mini!

For those of you who don't already know, every month I enter a competition run by my local GW called The Brotherhood of the Brush. The rules of engagement are quite simple really. Each month a new model is assigned. It's usually picked by the winner of the previous month and must be within a budget of £12 (I think that's about $19 USD), and then painted to the best of our ability. The winner then chooses the next month's model which they get for free. Not bad really!

Last month, if you missed my last plog, was an Eldar Farseer of our choosing. Unfortunately I came a close second, which is probably a good thing seeing as I was struggling to find a mini I really wanted to paint within budget. Anyway, to cut a long story short, this month's model is Huron Blackheart, Chaos Lord and leader of the Red Corsairs. Ok so maybe it wouldn't have been my first choice as Abaddon is within budget, but the beauty of the competition is that it forces to paint models you wouldn't normally consider, and, like all competition painting it really hones your skills.

Right so back story over, it's time to get on with the show. I've just got the model and have had a look. Once I've got rid of the bleeds and mold lines I'll prime him and start taking pictures. So yeah that's about me done for the minute. If any of you have suggestions for a nice scenic base, feel free to contribute. So far I have two ideas. The first being a concrete wall with a large sewer pipe in which his little creature thing will sit. The second with be him standing atop a dreadnought arm/carcass or similar.

Anyway, cheers for taking the time to read folks.
We had this situation arise during a game I had earlier this week, and we debated it. We ended up asking the store manager to interpret it for us, he looked over the rulings for it and eventually decided that an overrun couldn't be conducted.
However, I wanted to check that this is the general consensus?

That x wouldn't be able to overrun if y crumbled to death.
As this will likely feature in my tactics to some level, and it'd be potentially devastating if I used it, then found out that other people play it differently

this is the list I'm planning on taking to a tourny at the end of the month
would like some feedback

vamp lord - lvl3, talisman of preservation, flayed halberk, helm, dark acolyte, summon ghouls, MotBA - 450

necromancer - scroll, invocation, raise dead, van hels - 110

2 x 30 ghouls, ghast - 248 ea

14 ghouls - 112

10 dire wolves - 80

10 dire wolves - 80

4 fell bats - 80

30 grave guard - f/c, banner of barrows, gw - 465

black coach - 200

4 blood knights - muso, kastellean - 250

varghulf - 175
I imagine I'll play a castle deployment in one side of the deployment zone with a solid front line of ghouls and GG
the vamp lord sits behind the ghoul, ghoul, GG front row raising as need with the necro. The direwolves are for flanking to try and remove bonus and steadfast on units

I've tried to include "fast" stuff to counter flankers and warmachines and also to counter as my enemy smashes against the front line

in practice I've found that the lvl4 really helps the casting bonuses and the coach is great for hampering opponent magic phase. The only thing I've found the lord in vulnerable to is those bastard lore of death sniping spells - so I try and deploy far enough back to be out of range - any suggestions on counter that would be appreciated
