As Snake walked back along the streets under his reclaimed robe he could see the civilians running to their designated areas. For all their panic they were a hardy lot, used to living and surviving on a death world, and though many looked distraught they still carried out their tasks.

A rumbling from down the street heralded the arrival of the cities armoured division. Pulling up to their standing point crew's jumped out, checking and re-checking their massive tanks as they waited for deployment orders. Standard pattern Leman Russ battletanks dominated the group, but here and there Snake could see the elongated Vanquisher barrels, the massed heavy bolters and autocannons of Exterminators and infront of them all the guard favourite - the Demolisher. With its snub nosed main gun, it looked almost comical, but the shot from it could level entire buildings. There was not artillery such as the Basilisk, such long range guns were mounted on the curtain wall as they would be useless inside the shield.

Turning down a side alley Snake hurried. The city was much more organised than he expected, and if he wanted to get out without detection he had to hurry. The main gates were already sealed, and the smaller ones would only remain open for a few hours as refugees from the outer habs fled in under the saftey of the shield.

"I wouldn't worry Snake." The soft female voice of the Doc cut in.
"I'm not worried, " he replied, keeping his head hunched down, "they seem to be well prepared, armed and from the reports they've all gone basic militia training."
"Nice try. But you forget we've got a readout on your bodies responses. I know you're worried, " she chided back, "these people have grown up the learning to fight from childhood, I'm sure they'll be fine."
"You saw the reports." Snake's tone was blunt
"Ye-es. But there's not guarantee they will lose, with the wall and the shield -"
"All the tech in the galaxy doesn't mean nothing if there's no-one there to use it. That Ork horde outnumbered this cities population ten to one. Cut of the civvies, and its more like twenty to one. Unless the Marines have got something up their armoured sleeve it doesn't look good."
There was silence at the other end of the codec.

****************

Opening the door slowly Snake entered the control room. Whoever was suppose to be on watch here deserved to be delivered to the Ork's for leaving it unattended, especially as there would not doubt be traitors and the idiots who thought themsleves to be Orks in the city.
A garbled message repeated itself over the vox. Pausing for a moment he adjusted the equalizers and after a moment the message repeated once more.
"This is Epistolary Ademus of the Ultramarines, I demand you open the gates immediately. We will assist you in this emergency if you wish."
The marines! Checking the security ID encoded in the transmission Snake was relieved to see if come up positive. The city might still stand a chance if they could call on the Asartes chapters. Activating the control for one of the security gates he vox'd back to the Epistolary,
"This is Sergeant Miller. Glad to hear off you sir. I've opened gate 5-C and have advised Milord Lenk. He is expecting you."

"Thank you Sergeant" replied the Librarian over the vox.
Turning the Librarian smiled faintly at the man beside him.
"Come on then Captain..lets get going"

The Astartes entered the city striding quickly towards Govenors Headquarters.
Ademus glanced around as he walked and shook his head as he saw Civilians and Soldiers alike moving quickly around the streets
"This place is in trouble...it is probably lucky we are here...I wish more of my Ultramarine brothers were here" muttered the Epistolary.

He heard the Captain grunt but wasn't sure if it was in agreement or not...nor at this moment did he care.
When they got outside the headquarters Ademus shook his head and chuckled
"Time to act like a marine I guess"

-----------------------

Ademus and the rest of the marines marched to the door in a coldly military fashion, they then came to the door to the chamber that Lenk resided in.
Seeing a passing civil servant the Librarian grabbed him roughly, even as the man shouted out in shock Ademus growled angrily
"Get this door open NOW!"
The man stuttered
"B..but sir I..." he trailed of as he saw the look on Allectus's face over Ademus's shoulder.
Letting the man go so that the Civil Servant could run to the intercom and muttered something into it.
There was a second of silence then the door slid open
"Sta...no...an impression may be needed...everyone lets go" the Librarian commanded
With that every single one of the marines entered the room.

--------------------------
Another Message came through to the citys communications
This is the Captain of the Mars battlecruiser The Divine Divider, we have picked up the massive incoming force of the Orks moving towards your city. For the Imperiums sake the Imperial Guard we have onboard have requested permission to assist your city. Colonel Darius and Commisar Kant are leading two hundred infantry towards your city as we speak. They are mostly guardsmen, heavy weapons specialists and two techpriest enginseers. They were originally taken from a larger Heavy Armour and Artillery regiment. Please lower your shields for their transport ships immediatly and I hope these men can assist you in the upcoming fight...Good Luck.

Pausing for a moment Snake allowed his armour to mimic the tall grass he was stalking through. Time was of the essence. It was just pure bad luck the the outpost was in the same direction that the Ork horde was coming from. Though they had now gained permanent access to the planets sensor net it was slowly becoming more and more useless as its relay stations were overrun or destroyed.
As he ran half crouched he kept his pistol at the ready whilst the solid eye scanned his immediate surroundings. He did not expect to meet any enemies, yet he had heard of this Kylsnik before and apparently he had more brains than the average Ork. Of course that wasn't saying much, but if he had the sense to send forward scouts, it would do him no good to run into them.
A strange growling noise suddenly filled the air, causing Snake to drop to one knee, weapons ready. After a moment he realised the sound was coming from him.
"Snake." The Doc's voice cut in over the codec, "How long has it been since you've eaten?"
"A while," he replied realising he had been ignoring the signals from his stomach for quite a while now.
"You need to keep your stamina up," she instructed, "If you allow youself to become too fatigued it will affect your aiming, your...
"I know the drill Doc," Snake interrupted, "but those rations you give me taste awful."
"They may not taste good Snake but they give your body all the necessary nutrients and minerals it needs." The Doc sounded slightly off put, as if insulted by Snake's description of her work, "Anyway, your in a jungle. You should be able to find plenty of edible food." Zooming in onto a moving object the Solid Eye spotted a small furry animal snuffling through the undergrowth.
"What about that?" They was a tapping sound as if the Doc was working at a terminal before she responded,
"That is a Garsnap. Mammal, of the feline genus. Hmm its actually quite interesting, apparantly it lives for over one hundred years with only one mate.."
"Huh..." Snake replied non-commitedly
"Your not really interested are you?" Doc said,
"Uh...not really. I just want to know one thing....."
"What's that?"
"How does it taste?"
"What?!" the Doc said aghast, "It's basically a cat! You wouldn't....."
"........" There was a sigh before the Doc responded,
"By all accounts their meant to be quite tasty but.."
"Quite tasty. Got it."

Stalking forward he quickly thrust speared the Garsnap before it realised what was going on. It looked like it had plenty of meat and would satisfy his hunger. As he reached into his backpack for his chemical blocks a sudden roar overhead caused his to flatten against the ground. Looking up his Solid Eye zoomed in on the five hovering forms of Ork Kommandos. They stayed up there for second before descending into a clearing nearby.
Crawling forward he headed towards their position, his suit changing colour as he crossed from grass to dusty earth before he was back into shrubs again. As he peered through the leaves he could see the had shrugged off their massive rockets.

"Wot is we stil 'ere fur?" one of them grumbled, sporting a human skull which hung round a chain on neck, "Scabwort 'az gorn bak. Wot we gotta 'ang around fur?" Stomping round the clearing the Orks seemed satisfied they were alone.
"Coz ov der Boss. We az gotta watch fur any morz of dem beakies. See if anymorz shows up." The other Orks looked puzzled at this. Seeing their faces the Nob shrugged his massive shoulders.
"Sumfing to do wiv tiktaks....." he paused for a moment, "......or taktiks or sumfing."

Snake had heard enough. It seemed he had gauged Kylsnik correctly. If the Ork warlord was already scouting the area there was something to worry about. Though the Inquistor had told him not to get involved, the Kommandos were in his way.......

Thirty seconds later his Exitus Rifle was assembled, a hellfire round ready. The low armour of the Orks was no problem, but their strong constitution was. The rounds though initially developed to combat the Tyranid threat worked as equally well as greenskins. The first shot splatted the brains of the Nob across the clearing. A second then third kill was claimed in quick succession as the Orks scattered in shock, unsure where the attack was coming from. One quickly heaved his rockets on attempting to take flight but another round punctured the tank. The explosion ripped the unlucky Ork apart taking two of his comrades with him. That left just the one who whether out of luck or instinct was lumbering towards Snakes position.

There wasn't time to fire again. Rising out of the grass Snake adopted a defensive stance, C'tan knife at the ready. Finally capturing sight of the enemy the Ork bellowed in rage, swinging his choppa round in a blurring arc. Stepping back Snake dodged the blow, smacking the massive weapons head to help it on it way. The increased momentum half spun the massive greenskin round, presenting its back. Taking opportunity Snake thrust forward, driving his knife in his foes side. Grunting in pain the Ork thrust his elbow back into the side of Snakes head, the blow strong enough to stumble him back. Lashing out with a backhanded swing the choppa came whirring round again. It was down to his innate reflexes that the C'tan knife was raised in time to block the below, the energy field around the blade cutting through the metal head of the axe like a knife through hot butter. The Ork looked in astonishment at his maimed weapon, before looking up into the barrel of the Exitus pistol. The shot burst his eyeball in an explosion of liquid before blowing the back of his head out.
Picking up his rifle Snake moved off once more into the undergrowth. Eating would have to wait.

Lenk stood up as the marines crowded into the room. The show of strength was not lost on him, but he held himself well.

"My Lord-Captains. I am most glad to see you. I assure you there was no need for such an entrance, your presence and assistance is very welcome."

The Astartes looked surprised at the welcome, but Lenk was speaking the truth. He had looked at the sensor data after Snake had left, and had a good idea of the hell that would soon take over the city.

"As you can see, the city is already preparing itself and I have received a communique from the Guard stationed aboard the Divine Divider. They will be here shortly, though they have been diverted to an outer hab landing area. Lowering the shield was not an option however we have prepared the nearby Delta gate to receive them."

Moving over to the central meeting table he pressed a button. A projection of the cities defenses appeared above the table, icons flashing as more units and armaments became combat ready.

"Please sit." he gestured, "Your thoughts on how to combat the threat will be appreciated. Plus there is something else I must talk to you about. However as it is a.....restricted matter, i would ask all but you two to leave." Seeing the questioning look Ademus gave him he added, "regarding our disappearing friend earlier."

The Librarian turned to the other marines and nodded, both Ultramarines and Sanguine Lamenters took the hint and walked out of the room.
Ademus placed a hand on the chair before sitting
He says the Guard are coming...which means Colonel Darius...this might work out good he though with faint amusing.
However Ademus the deeply embedded honour and discipline of the Ultramarines would not allow him to sit.
He remained standing until Captain Allectus sat, then he allowed himself to sit.

The Librarian clasped his hands on his knee and watched Lenk with his strange unblinking stare.
I have taken the lead too much...I dishonour the captain...I should allow him to exercise his rank and authority.
The Librarian remained silently.

"Sir!" shouted on the of young officers who pushed his way past a gathering of men towards Darius
The colonel sighed faintly and waited for the young man to reach him.
"Sir! All the soldiers are now in the city, they are staying seperate from the Planetary's guard for now and are waiting their commands"
Darius rubbed his chin for a moment before responding
"Let them stay there for a moment...I need to find the highest ranked Soldier here." responded the Colonel.
The young officer nodded and ran of towards his soldiers.
Darius heard the barking laugh of Commissar Kant behind him.
"Well well Sir! We could always find those lovely marines from the ship Colonel!"
Darius glared at his friend
"Harhar Kant! You know how much I -hate- those interfering pricks! They think they're so much better than us! Well I tell you I will take orders from a fellow Soldier and not a thing that isn't even human! hissed the Colonel
The larger man raised his hands and stepped back
"Calm down Darius! I'm only joking"
Darius shook his head
"I'm sorry...Kant tell your Cadet Commissars to watch over the soldiers, you and I are going to look for the leader of this cities soldiers."

Allectus eyed Lenk as he strode around the glowing table, pointing out strongpoints and explaining the defence tactics of the PDF. The librarian sat quiet, apparently waiting for Allectus to speak. The space marine raised his armoured hand, as a sign for Lenk to stop talking. As the man took the hint and sat down, the captain began to speak.

"Where do you think your men are in need of most assistance? I have a limited numbers of marines available, and I wish for them to be able to contribute where it is needed most. So, are there any weak points in your defence?"

As usual, when at the brink of big battle, he only asked what was of relevance to the current situation and said nothing more, waiting for Lenks response.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asger Walek jogged through the city, his lasgun bumping on his back. He could feel sweat building up underneath his helmet. His 9 squadmates and Asger Walek had been assigned to the north east part of the city, to hold the walls. His officers had said nothing about what they were going to fight, they just kept on shouting orders at them. "Move faster, go go go, less talking more running!"

He figured he'd be better of not knowing.

The Moirdivan 13th, fourth platoon moved swiftly through streets. Shuffling past the buildings as they were all being locked down. It was a certain feeling in the air. Asger Walek could not put his finger on it. He had never felt it before, it was a mix of excitement and fear. A mishmash of different feelings rushing trough his body as he ran down through the city. The older soldiers called the feeling "gallows". A rush of excitement in the bottom of your belly as you fall towards your death.

He smirked. This was his first battle, he had only been drafted one year earlier, and this was the first time he had felt the "gallows".

Kneeling Snake looked at the outpost. It was small bunker set deep into the ground, so deep in fact that only half of its one floor was above ground level. He could see the steps leading down to the entrance from here and as far as he could tell there was no traps or sentries.
Moving forward in a half crouch he held his knife and pistol in his trained CQC stance. He had nearly made it when he saw something in the earth before the steps. The was a shallow elongated impression, as if something had briefly caught the top of the soil, something that was being dragged. There was another mark at its side, the distance between the two suggested it the heels of someone.
Immediately Snake looked around once more, the tracks were still quite clean and thus could not be that old. Still he could not see anyone. Crouching down he inspected the ground in more details and found what he was looking for.Unless he had known to look he would have never have noticed the other set of footprints. They were so shallow it was hard to make them out, but there was no mistaking the impressions. They led into the bunker, but none came out. As the entrance seemed to be the only one, that could only mean whoever it was must still be inside.

"Inquistor, I've arrived at the bunker. But I've found some tracks that show someone else has entered in the last hour."
"Hmm, that may or may not be a coincidence Snake. However that data is mission critical, you must obtain it at all costs."
"Got it. Whoever is in there is no rookie though. Their tracks are almost invisible, their a highly trained scout at least."
"It's a risk we've got to take. Be careful Snake."

Stalking down to the door Snake found the lock had been cut open. Slowly grasping the handle he eased it open, thankful it did not creak. Ahead lay a corridor with a door on either side leading to the bunkers two rooms. With practiced stealth Snake placed one foot down on its outside, slowly rolling the rest of the foot down as he transfered his weight onto it. This type of stalking was very demanding, tiring the calf muscles like no other form of exercise. However it was entirely silent and as he progressed he made no sound at all.
As he reached the two doors Snake knew whichever one he picked would leave him open to attack from the other. However sometimes you just had to bite the bullet. Swinging round to the left, pistol raised he did not expect the site that greeted him.
"Eldar?!"

********************************************************

Taking a quick drink of water to conceal his nervousness the Librarian instilled in him, Lenk answered the Captain.
"Apart from the normal weak points such as the gates there is no other areas of structural concern. This city has never yet been attacked at that in itself is its weakpoint. We have more unbloodied soldiers than veterans, though hardy as they are from growing up on this death world, it is still new to many." The Librarians gaze was starting to unnerve him, and as he took another gulp of water he wished it was something stronger.
"I have already instructed General Voskler of the Armoured Division to liaise with the Guard when they arrive. I understand they are experienced in heavy weapons and artillery. I have issued orders that they take command of the cities batteries, releasing the experienced officers from there to the infantry." Running a hand through his scalp he paused for moment before continuing.
"There is something else I need to discuss. It is concerning the stranger you encountered earlier Lord Ademus. Have you heard of the Legendary Warrior - Snake?"

The Eldar spun around with blinding speed drawing his pistol as he did so “I do not seek conflict with you this day human, lower your weapon and I shall do the same” the Eldars voice was deeper then any other Eladr Snake had ever encountered . Snake's previous encounters with Eldar had been both good and bad. He had nearly lost an arm to their advanced weaponry before, but other hand his life had also been saved by the timely intervention by a troupe of Screaming Banshees.

He knew straight away for the Eldars garb that he was Ranger, though what one was doing in this outpost was certainly worrying. However the couldn't stand and point guns at each other all day.
"Alright," he said cautiously, slowly lowering his pistol. The Ranger did the same until both guns pointed at the ground.
"What are you doing here?" questioned Snake, "an Imperial bunker isn't the best place for a Xeno to be hiding out in."

Ademus leant forward slightly bringing his folded hands to sit on the table, still staring at Lenk.
"I have read of him from the Archives of my chapter...yet even as the largest of all the Chapters even the Ultramarines Knowledge is limited when it comes to such a man" admitted the Librarian.
"How odd...for such a legendary figure there is little actual facts available to me in relation to him...if you know anything I would be grateful to hear it Baron." murmered Ademus.
He finished and leant back slightly, but lenk noticed something...
The man still hadn't Blinked!

--------------------------------------------------------

Darius strode quickly towards the Artillery batteries with his Retinue in tow.
These included the Commisar Kant who was still muttering about his Cadets being positioned throughout the city without his noticed, two junior officers named Illarius and Jarien (the rest of the officers having been dispatched to assist in the command of the defenses), a Enginseer called Revik (the other enginseer having been orderered to assist the Armoured Division) and a Psyker called Nelrin who had served Darius for many years.

As Darius walked he remembered his orders
"You are to be sent to the artillary batteries but the rest of your men will assist and protect the armoured division" the Senior Officer of the city had said.
"Under whos orders?" Darius Demanded
"The Baron's of course" sneered the Officer enjoying the power he had over Darius despite being of lower rank to the colonel.
"I demand to speak with Lenk" hissed the Colonel but the other man had merely shook his head
"The orders have already been dispensed...Now a few senior officers have been left behind and you may have them. Now I must leave Colonel..." said the other Officer with a smirk
"Wait! Who give Lenk the authority?!? He's just comander of this pathetic Planetary Force!" hissed Darius
The Senior officer struggled with his temper
"I believe the marines give him the authority sir...sir?!?" he shouted but Darius was already walking away.

Darius had then found Kant arguing that he would not be dispatched and that he wanted his cadets back, he had also found the Psyker standing alone...apparently no one wanted to give him orders, two junior officers stumbled over to him and the techpriest had said he wished to go to Artillary anyway.
What a bunch of loyal soldiers...

Darius finnally made it to the Batteries and no sooner had he arrived than the most senior soldier had come forward, a Captain of about forty years.
The captain was well built and slightly taller than Darius himself, he was heavily scarred and obviously one of the few true Veterans of the city.
The man stood infront of him looking angry he opened his mouth but suddenly seemed to recognise the uniform Darius wore, he saluted quickly but before he could speak the Colonel did so

"I am Colonel Darius of the Kelron Drop Troops and I was previously Commanding Colonel of the Kelrons 1st heavy armoured regiment."
The major nodded slightly looking unsure
"I am Captain Telbrene of the cities Artillary regiment...I'm sorry sir but I'm the most senior officer here...there is no Major or Colonel here." muttered the man.

Darius smiled in a friendly and relaxed fashion
"Come Telbrene...let us relax before the storm hits, give me a run down of your defenses and I shall introduce my friends here" said the Colonel as he put an arm around the Captains shoulders and walked the very confused man towards his soldiers.

In orbit Chaplain Brittanicus was informed of the enemy presence down below and had his marines ready to drop at any moment with thunderhawk and drop pod. The marine captain smiled, soon all his brothers would be united.

Allctus greeted his fellow astartes captain with a bow.
"For the emperor, brother."
He nodded at Lenk. And looked at the librarian.
"I say we concentrate our marines at the gates, what say you?"

He stood up and walked around the room, only to stop with his back to the others, facing the window. The guard were moving around outside, setting up positions and fortifying the site around the command center.
It would seem that I have to call upon the chapter, things are really getting out of hand here. I just hope that Master Jerivo see things the way I do.
"Very well!"
Allectus turned around towards the librarian and the nervous Lenk. He fixed his gaze on the governor.
"I would like to make use of your transmissions relay, the chapter needs to know about the situation here."
The man flinched.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Moirdivan 13th, fourth platoon moved up the ramp to the walls, behind them Asger Walek could hear the sound of several Chimeras rolling by, the creaking sound of the tracks sent chills down his spine. They were just above one of the citys smaller entrances. He reached the walls and peered over the edge.

The jungle seemed calm and nothing appeared to be moving, he hefted his lasgun and pointed it towards the treeline, his squad mates doing the same. Sweat running down his face, forcing him to wipe his face with the end of his sleeves. Sergeant Gerogg laughed and tapped Asger on his helmet.
"Don't worry lad, I'll look after you, as long as you look after yourself. You'll be okay."

Asger nodded and swallowed down hard. He had been shooting at dummies of orks for the past year. He had learned to shoot from the hip, aim down the sight, shoot while moving forward, while moving backwards, shoot from prone and lying down. They had taught him where to aim to inflict maximum damage. He had learned to charge headlong with his bayonet to engage the dummies in close combat.

Asger hoped that they would not have to charge the ork lines, because he had seen the videos. He had seen what they could do to a human. He shrugged and aimed down his sight again. The voice of Gerogg sounding as he moved down the line, saying comforting word to those who needed it, bashing at others. Gerogg was a good man, a good soldier, but above all, he was a great leader. He would make sure that they would survive this.

He would. He had to.

Excitement filled the air. Orks roared their bloodlust, their coarse voices mixing with the rumbling engines of their impossible contraptions.

To Stormsong, that excitement was a but a slight buzzing in the back of her mind now, rather than the immense pressure it had been when the Orks had first come across her position. Somehow Stormsong had only felt the presence of the Waaagh as it bore down upon her and she had barely had enough time to hide.

After skirting round the Orks the harlequin ran at full speed, risking falling into the many natural dangers on the planet. They were heading in the direction of the settlement she had been travelling too and she had to fight down anxiety. She had intended for the humans to aid her in her search of the planet, but they couldn't very well do that if they were dead and with the number of Orks headed towards them she doubted the humans could hold out. Somehow, she had to turn the situation around.

*****

As she drew near the humans' habitat, Stormsong stopped to arrange a disguise. She knew a 'treacherous xenos' would not be much appreciated, more so if they knew the Orks were coming. Her mask altered it's form to present a human face, a fairly average looking one by their standards. Her suit changed too, using it's holographic abilities to appear like a short, torn dress.

The disguise wasn't perfect, anyone who looked close enough would still realise the face was a mask and that the dress was slightly transparent, nevertheless it had seen her through many times before.

*****

The young human woman ran on to the place she called home, her slow steps clumsy and ungraceful, and a look of sheer terror on her face.

"However the imperiums grip on this world may become strained, Ork's aside we have reports of many other Xeno's and even our Traitorous brethern, I was refering to the fact that addition Astartes may be required in the long run to once again stabilise and secure this world."

Ademus shrugged turning to finnally look at Basiculs
"Of course given the nature of warp travel it is possible that the long run might be very long indeed"

A vein in Lenks forehead throbbed from stress. He was veritably surrounded by the marines yet he had to remember, he was the commander of this planet, and whilst he respected the Astartes his people still needed to know he was in control.

Finally after listening to the marines talk he interrupted.
"My Lords, I think we have to prepare for the worst. I have already sent a distress call as per protocol, but we have yet to receive a response.Even if we do this is a world fringe, and takes many weeks travel to reach here, if we are deemed worthy a cause at all."

He stood out and started to pace the room out of habit, belaying his apprehension.
"I will not lie and say I am not worried, but I won't fail these people, and in turn they will not fail me. Unbloodied, unexperienced they may be, but they have grown on a world that if you cannot rely on each other means death." Looking back at the others he looked them for the first time clearly in the eye.
"Plus I know this is just the start. The cultist uprising, the Ork's, they are part of something bigger." Lenk turned to Ademus,
"The man is this room early was him - it was Snake. The Legendary warrior, or if you have contacts as I do, the Inquisitions last resort. I am not sure if you are all familiar with him, but this man always seems to be present a keys moments, always turning the tide of battle in the Imperiums favour. It is rumoured his actions alone halted the Tau expansion on the Minia system, saving over ten billion lives." He paused for a moment to let this sink in,
"Suffice to say if he is here, there is something bigger afoot than the destruction of this backwater world. He was in my quarters to access my terminal, trying to find information. By enhancing the planets sensor net it picked up Necron, Eldar, Tau and Chaos activity near the north pole. Something is bringing all these bastards to this planet like a moth to a flame. The question is what? What would attract all them and no less that the Inquisitions biggest secret?"
Lenk sat back in his chair, waiting for the marines response.

"Sir!" Looking round from his command Baneblade General Voskler caught sight of the eager young Major Raoin.
"What is it Major?"
"I delivered the commands to the Guard as ordered, they weren't happy though. Seemed to think they shouldn't be bossed around." The General sighed and leapt down,
"I assume from that remark you handled the encounter with your usual ineptitude?" The Major's smug grin dropped at this remark, but before he could say anything Voskler waved him off.
"Make sure third division is ready. They threw a track this morning on the Volgin, I want every tank to be ready come dusk, understood?" The Major saluted before heading off. Watching after him Vosker shook his head, Raoin was one of the best drivers in the whole armoured platoon, but when it came to tact he was sorely lacking. It was the reason why most of the men loved him and hated him at the same time.
Half an hour later he arrived on the walls, having decided to rectify the Major's mistake. The last thing he needed was to be at odds with the guards commander, he had seen to many mistakes made when the so-called commanders were arguing amongst themselves.
Finally finding him after asking one of the gunners he walked up the stern looking man. Saluting he then held out his hand,
"Colonel Darius I believe? I am General Voskler of the Moirdivan Armoured division. I apologise for not meeting you in person earlier, however I always over see the preparations personally."

Looking inside the room Snake looked at the man. He was close to death that was clear. How he had managed to survive this long was almost beyond belief, his left arm seemed to have been ripped completely out of his socked and something had blown the right side of his face out.
Catching sight of Snake the man's one good eye focused on him, before he tried miserably to sit up. Realising he did not have the strength he fell back down, waving Snake over with his remaining arm.
"Ah eed oo ell oo." The mans pained and garbled words were horrible to hear, but it was obvious they were important.
"I'm listening, "Snake nodded leaning closer so he could hear more clearly, "what is it you need to tell me?"
"'arn er ity. er oks ah eary ere! ey ill e ere eore ight" Snake thought for a minute, wondering what the man meant before suddenly it became clear. If that was true those Ork Kommandos were not long range scouts as he had thought, but part of the advance force for the nearby Ork army. If the city was not warned the Greenskins would catch them entirely off guard, fpr they wasn't expecting them for at least two days, and certainly not prepared for them to attack today.
As he stood up Snake knew he still had his mission to do, that it must come first. But looking at the man he knew there was something else that needed doing, that was begged of him from that one eye.
"You have done the Emperor proud," he said raising his pistol. After he had granted the only mercy he could deliver Snake turned away. There was some things even one as old and experience as him still found hard.

Ademus stood up and walked over to Lenk, towering over the Baron.
Then suprisingly he bowed with a grave expression on his face
"Brave and noble words Milord, I am not sure what brings this Xeno's and traitors here but no doubt it is of great danger to the Imperium."

"However you are the commander of this world Baron and so I will assist you in whatever ways are possible...and with this legendary warrior here perhaps we have a higher chance of success" he said although the last part with a hint of faint amusement.

--------------------------------------------

Darius frowned at the man and then grasped the other mans hand in a shake, he thought he perhaps saw some wariness in the Generals expresion
No wonder...most think I look more like a scholar than a soldier thought the colonel with amusement
"Correct...and it's a pleasure General"
"I have always found men of the Armoured division to be desirable comrades....allow me to introduce my staff"
Darius gestured to a tall and broad man beside him in a Commissar uniform
"Commissar Kant"
The huge man nodded his expression dark
"Ah...yes well ignore Kant...those two are Illarius and Jarien my junior officers." he said gesturing to two young, but well built and slightly scarred men who both saluted.
"And that is Psyker Nelrin and Enginseer Revik" he finished with a wave of his hand.
The Psyker nodded his blind eyes staring directly at the General
"A pleasure General" he said in a whispery voice
The Enginseer took a step forward
"This city is in surprisingly good condition General...and I trust my brother Enginseer is assisting your Armoured division effectively?"
Before the General could answer the Enginseer shouted something about idiots and dangerous devices before striding down to argue with a gunner.
Darius shook his head faintly with a faint smirk on his lips
"And lastly Captain Telbrene, you perhaps already know him? Hes says hes been apart of the Gunnery crew for many years"
The heavily scarred man looked like a true Vetern as he saluted formally to the General.

Darius crossed his arms slightly looking strangely relaxed in his superiors presence
"So sir...apart from the short words I got from some dreadful junior officer do you have a set of real orders?"he said with a smirk
Despite his appearance however his words were calm and steady and the General believed that the Colonels looks could perhaps be decieving.

''Well obivously there is somthing of importance for the xenos and the heretics the converge on that location, however we have a large ork presence nearby, we will have to deal with the greenskin threat before we can do anything commander'' Basiclus adressed Lenk.

Several landing vessels neared the scorched ground, covered in ashes of burned vegetation. Inquisitorial Stormtroopers deployed ahead of the ships via grav chutes, silently awaited the arrival of their Lord. Armed with flamers these would be the men to clear the way for the rest of the force. Once the vessels landed, a hiss of compressed air was made and the bolts holding the heavy door blew open. From the darkness of the vessel Inquisitor Lord Mercutio strode casually out. Following closely behind came his command staff. Stormtrooper officers, the commander, servitors, familiars, a field medic, a sanctioned psyker, and more. Though there is one new member of the staff joining Mercutio, a Vindicare Temple Assassin..

Allecuts nodded slowly.
"You are correct, brother. We must first defeat this incursion and later deal with the rest. But still, as Librarian Ademus say, the chapters could make the difference in the long run, should this fight take more than weeks, say months."

The captain's expression unreadable, he continued.

"And, I think it would be better if we knew that our brethren are on their way, at least something to tell the guard, to calm them down."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Asger Walek jumped at the sight of a young woman running from the jungle. He had to look twice to make sure that he wasn't day dreaming. But other saw her as well. Had Asger been more nervous he would have shot her, and it seemed that someone were that nervous as a soldier opened fire upon the poor girl.

"Cease fire, damn it!" Sergeant Gerogg screamed as he bashed the soldier in the back of his head.

Luckily for the girl, the nervous soldier's aim was slightly of, and she seemed to be unharmed, no shot had hit her.

"Next time you fire, make sure you hit you target! Bafoon! Next time, it might be the xenos!" The sergeant bashed the soldier again and started moving down the line, he was making his way past Asger towards the Junior officer in command.

Asger could not make out what they were saying, but it seemed like the gates would open for a brief moment and let the poor girl in. She was almost half way there now, still running as fast as she could, limping every other step. The men began cheering her on. Asger own voice joining those scores of other men and women on the walls.

She would make it.

Lenk nodded his head in agreement though deep down inside he knew what was happening was bigger than just the immediate threat. Still one thing was true, they had to make it through the upcoming attack first and deal with the other threat afterwards.
Half of him wished Snake was still here, even if a quarter of the stories were true he would have no dounbt made a difference. The other half was still relieved not to have that pistol pointed at him, those unforgiving eyes watching him fearlessly.

A beeping sound drew his attention to one of the defensive displays.
"The cities wall defences have completed their deployment," he advised the Marines, "it seems the Guard speed up the process." Tapping on the other glowing keys a grim smile crossed his face, "Full deployment of armour and infantry is expected within three hours."

Turning back the marines he coughed nervously,
"I mean no disrespect but we must establish a command structure before battle. I understand you all have much more battlefield experience than I have. However when it comes to commanding this city my knowledge is better than no ones. I believe the best course of action would be for myself to assume command in the strategium."
