    Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I was wondering if a mouted character could go into a dire wolve unit?

    Yes, any character can join a unit of Dire Wolves (barring other things which may preclude that, such as being ethereal, for example)

    However, Look out Sir! rolls will not be allowed, as the character will not be the same "type" as the wolves. (This is the biggest reason why you don't see to many people doing this anymore).

    If a mounted character joined a unit of wolves, would the unit loose the Vanguard rule (8th edition)? I presume they would, rather than the character gaining it?

    @dctastic: A bit of a threadomancy there ;)
    Next time, create a new thread instead.

    As for the question. All models in the unit have to have Vanguard in order for you to use it. So in this case the Dire Wolves would effectively not be able to utilise it.
