I was going to post it, but You've beaten me... xD

"Inside, you’ll find the warscrolls for every single Death model (so far…) alongside four new Allegiances within Death – the Grand Host of Nagash, Legion of Shadows, Legion of Sacrament and Legion of Blood. You’ll also find rules for the Soulblight vampires, if you’re looking to field one of Death’s most elite armies"

I'm hoping they really go all out for this as having played against mostly sylvaneth recently it's shocking just how outdated a death army feels in comparison. With this new battletome they could give all new rules and points costs for everything, perhaps even make a vampire lord something to be feared again rather than the laughing stock it is now (vampire lord on foot and on nightmare, vampire lord on zd is still to be feared lolz)

I was also just about to post this, but I've been too slow as well :D.

This is a much more positive development than any of the lacklustre hints that were alluded to under the Malign Portents banner. I've never yet purchased a book for Age of Sigmar, preferring instead to rely on the free rules and warscrolls. This book, however, looks very promising and I would like to think that it going to introduce some much needed clarity, depth, and organisation to the forces of the undead.

Nagash is like Archaon, I was expecting this. Nothing new, but you can choose all the Death units.

"What about the Mortal Realms? Worry not, generals – the Open Day also saw some exciting reveals for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. While the Malign Portents remain as mysterious as ever, one thing is certain – something great and terrible is rising in Shyish, and Nagash is behind it. This year promises to be a huge one for Death players, and we’re getting things started with Legions of Nagash, a new battletome with not one – but SIX! – allegiances within.

Since the start of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, each Grand Alliance has evolved to feature more factions, allegiance abilities and options for collecting; from the mixed Order armies of the Great Cities to the god-marked cavalcades of Chaos. Battletome: Legions of Nagash is designed to make sure that Death players have just as many options as their counterparts. Inside, you’ll find the warscrolls for every single Death model (so far…) alongside four new Allegiances within Death – the Grand Host of Nagash, Legion of Shadows, Legion of Sacrament and Legion of Blood. You’ll also find rules for the Soulblight vampires, if you’re looking to field one of Death’s most elite armies. If you would rather have an army formed from multiple facets of Nagash’s legions, there are also rules for those who pledge themselves more generally to the powers of Death.

The particularly devout among you may have spotted that each of these corresponds to a Mortarch (or Nagash himself), and each allegiance, while using a mixed pool of Death units, will feature its own unique in-game mechanics and abilities.

It’s not just rules, either – inside, you’ll find your guide to the realm of Shyish and what everyday life is like for the denizens of Nagash’s kingdoms – from the serried ranks of Deathrattle skeletons cutting lumber in the woods of Carstinia to sinister cities where the living and the dead dwell alongside each other. We’ll have more previews on the way closer to the release of Battletome: Legions of Nagash, but if you’re still hungry for the forbidden lore of Death, check out the Malign Portents website."

I just ran Nagash in a tournament today and he was a beast. The only reason I didn't take first place was a priority error in round 5 on top table. I played against Skryre and Tzeentch, too. So no pushovers. If he gets his own lore, look out everybody else.

’ll buy it. Hopefully it helps the game situation some. Not promising for the hope of new models any time soon, if they’re releasing a ‘one book for everything’ style rulebook now.

Subfactions for each of the mortarchs sounds cool as heck, tho. I’d like to see what they think an Arkhan army looks like.

And new realm of death lore is always welcome.

I'm hoping that there's a Death spellbook, like in Sylvaneth. As for new units, I doubt we'll get anything outside the herald of Nagash. Deathrattle allegiance abilities and more/better warscroll battalions would be nice too.

Interested in the lore stuff: apparently we're going to get an idea of what it's like to live in Shyish, which is the kind of nitty-gritty stuff I need in order to involve myself with a world. (I know we're supposed to just make it up, but if I was good at making stuff up I'd be designing games, not playing other people's!)

Topics discussing the same subject merged.

I think that the Mortarch factions look interesting, but what I'm really hoping for is expanded narrative and for the forces of the undead to have a more cohesive feel to them than is currently the case. Improved lore would go some way to help with this issue.

No deathrattle allegiance in this book. The announcement said six allegiances, and listed all six: Death, Soulblight, one for Nagash, one for each of the three mortarchs. It wouldn't shock me if we also see separate battle tomes for deathrattle and nighthaunt this year, but they won't be in this book.

If we do get other battle tomes this year, I don't expect those to come with any new models either, though.

I would rather have seen all of the factions in the same book, but there may be some reason (other than making money( that I'm missing as to why this is not feasible. At least it's going to cover the majority of the undead factions.

That's only five allegiances. I assume Nighthaunt and FEC will be excluded because they are in GHB but the units will be still be in there. But so is Soulblight. Either way, I'm hoping for better battalions. We only had three good ones and they axed two of them.

    1) Death
    2) Soulblight
    3) Nagash
    4) Mannfred
    5) Neferata
    6) Arkhan

All six allegiances in the book are accounted for in the initial announcement.

Okay so there is a new piece of artwork that appears to show death being ganged up on by the other 3 factions. Lore wise I don't mind it but in game terms if this has any major bearing on things, we are going get our skeletal arses kicked. Unless legions of nagash turns out to be some sort of holy grail the way death is now this is pretty dire. Maybe the Knight of Shrouds will have some decent rules? I'm not very optimistic tbh. :(

It's not that big of a deal, game means nothing, it's not board game pieces after all, it's miniatures. Lore is everything we need.

I mean, even lore-wise, what are they gonna do? Not die? The thing about Death is that it's inevitable. "OOOHHH YEAH. WE CONQUERED DEATH!! Now nobody's ever gonna die again!" (all three factions immediately go back to killing each other)

My issue wasn't with the lore aspect of it just game wise; if the results of malign portents has an effect on the future direction of the game we are not very well suited to influence it as things stand with the smallest grand alliance and outdated rules (compared to the newer battletomes).

Our "outdated" rules are sometimes to our advantage. You run the mortis engine up and see your opponent shiver when he realizes it can dish out mortal wounds or heal your models during THEIR hero phase. Or that Nagash can be at +6 to cast spells. Or that you can have 4 saves against a wound. Or my favorite, depleting a unit down to a few models and having it back to full health on your next turn.

I think there are two things that keep Death from the spotlight at tournaments: percentage of Death players and player skills. There are currently 689 players ranked with ITC; only 102 are reported with either Death or Flesh Eaters (some potential overlap and no Nighthaunt or Soulblight yet) and less than 20 of those players have more than one tournament reported. But the active Death players do really well (myself included) in tournaments. I think Malign Portents has the potential to revitalize the Death community. For the last 5+ years, I've been half of the Death players in my fairly large community (like 40+) and the only consistent one. But in the last month I've seen at least 3 other people buy into Death in anticipation for MP. I've asked what they would do if they didn't like MP, and they said they would still play Death because there are just too many Order/Chaos players and Destruction is too boring. So whether or not Malign Portents turns out to be a bust, I think we'll start seeing a large influx of Death armies attending and winning tournaments.

There aren't nearly as many as there used to be, but I still do batreps for tournaments and so does @Unas the slayer. You can read those to get new ideas or weed out the bad ones we've already had. Also post your own batreps in Memento Mori Thread and the community can help you hone your skills.

Well said. I am as enthusiastic as you, actually, and am sure Death has tricks up its sleeves. If the MP does get so exciting as GW is promising... I am hoping at least the lore will be at least decent.

I always caution about reading too much into artwork, stories, and the narrative overall. Even if there is some kind of unification of the other factions against Death, the undead can never truly be defeated, only delayed. In addition, I think that there's too much emphasis placed on tournaments and competitiveness. Age of Sigmar has attempted to broaden the scope of ways to play, so I think that it's important to take account of how our faction is performing across the board, rather than focusing on one area. It's also worth nothing that Legions of Nagash is likely to herald positive changes for the forces of the undead.
