This thread is for any general discussion that does not belong in open threads.

This includes general chat, discussing which sections to do next etc.

Please ensure this is used so specific discussion threads do not get clogged up with non-relevant info.

This is a good thread, DoN. Will we be redoing the army wide rules again, or are they good enough for the new LoN? I personally think they are good enough.

I think we finished the Army rules, but I don't think they were posted in their entirety after we came to an agreement. This would be pretty handy to have finished in one post. :-)

LoN: Lord Virion as special character

Hi necromancers,

I really like this project, it is awesome! Just recently I found it on the web and would like to contribute something to it as well.

Cheers,

Stradh

Be happy to receiving comments on Lord Virion rules:

Lord Virion (counts as hero) – 250 pts

Although nobody knows where he comes from, or when he will arrive, Lord Virion the Grim strikes terror in the hearts of mortals when he rides upon the battlefield with his macabre chariot, filled with bones, to harvest the slain.

Lord Virion M 6 / WS 3 / BS - / S 3 / T 3 / W 2 / I 2 / A 3 / Ld 5 / Sv –
Plaque Cart M - / WS - / BS - / S 5 / T 5 / W 3 / I - / A 1D6 / Ld - / Sv –
Steed M 8 / WS 2 / BS - / S 3 / T 4 / W 1 / I 2 / A 1 / Ld 5 / Sv –

Unit Size
-

Magic
Only for fluff reasons Lord Virion should be a Lvl 1 or 2 wizard. What do you think?

Equipment
Scyth (counts as two-handed weapon)

Options
-

Special Rules
-causes terror
-ethereal (whole model)
-grim reaper is upon us (all enemy units suffer -2 on Ld within 18” range of the cart)

Mounts
-

Magic Items
The Plaque Cart (counts as chariot) may summon additional D6 skeletons / 2D6 zombies within 12” range of the cart to an existing unit or create a new unit (if at least 5 models are created) once per magic phase (bound spell) at a power level of 6.

Grim Reaper Is Upon Us
Lord Virion the Grim is one of the Dark Lords of Nagash, those fell beings who in ancient times were the foremost of Nagash's captains and apprentices and have become the most feared destroyers of his enemies. No-one really knows the early history of Lord Virion, but it is whispered that he was one of the rebel Priest Kings that followed Nagash's teaching over 4,000 years ago, and that it was he that created the spells and rituals that Nagash used to unleash the plague which destroyed the ancient civilisation of Nehekhara and toppled the great king Alcadizzar.
Whatever his past, now Lord Virion and the Plague Cart he drives have become the very symbol of the last journey which ends at the cemetary gate, and he is a powerful ally for any Undead army. No-one knows when or where Lord Virion will appear next. He simply arrives at the start of a battle, driving his creaking cart of death with its dark cargo of doom into the centre of the action, bolstering the power of the Undead and filling the hearts of the living with despair. Once the battle is over he vanishes as quickly and mysteriously as he appeared.

All enemy units within 18” range of the cart suffer -2 on Ld.

Stradh:

We're always looking for new people to join the project :-)

I'll not comment on the character in this section too much (since this is not the thread for it), other than to say that I personally don't like stuff based on old and outdated warhammer fluff ( or the tvc for that matter) that will have no relevance for newer players, and often be in direct contradiction to the more recent GW fluff. If you browse the LoN threads, you'll find me ranting about this more than once.
I might however be a minority in wanting to go with the newer fluff..

So I'm back! I finally have internet!

Just to let you know that I will be looking over the posts and getting working on things moving forward.

The one thing I was thinking of was time limits. When we are active (my failing mainly I know) we still tend to go on and on....and on, and sometimes far too long.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to set a limit on how long we can discuss a certain topic, and effectively force ourselves to wrap things up faster. We may make the odd mistake, but we can always come back and fix it? At least this way we may complete the LoN before the next edition? xD

I think that we tend to go thru things in a fairly timely manner, when there are several people in the discuss and the range discuss is largely agreed upon. The items where people are further apart, can and probably should take longer to sort out... having a set time limit doesn't "help" anything, I don't think.

Yes, deadlines could help. At predetermined times, we could have final votes on a rule or set of rules. I think the best way to find out whether the deadlines methid is good or not is to try it once or twice and see how we fwel about using it afterwards.

It seems the project died out yet again.. I think in the end, I'm going to use what I have to go ahead with my own project at some time guys. I was sort of at odds with the initial direction of the project to begin with anyhow, so there might have been too many discussions/arguments which also slowed down progress, so it is my fault as well.

If you one day continue, I wish you the best of luck with it though :-)

Out of the darkness a Disciple of Nagash steps forward, the dark purple light of Shyish playing around his hands,

"One more...arise....ARISE! The Legions of Nagash will walk once more!"

------------

So, when I look back on our previous homebrews and user projects we nearly got there with loads of them, but not quite. I'd like to finish them off 😁 If really really necessary I'll trudge on my own, but I would love other people to help. Hopefully one of them is still you @TMS!

I need to re-read and set the scene, but what I'm thinking is:

  • We aim to re-use what we can, there was lots of hard work on this
  • We update for additional stuff that we can get inspiration from, like the additional stuff we like in the AoS
  • Ideally, we create an army that can be used across all editions of WHFB, we'll probably need some tweaks across different editions, especially points values. But ideally we should try have an army that can be consistently played on any edition
  • We still focus on it being a death mage heavy army that specialises in being more skilled in necromancy and using their puppets in interesting ways!
Anyone else interested? We need fluff as well as rules!
