    The Cursed Book

Rationalizing? I'm just answering your points. The only item i'd seriously consider over the cursed book is the rod of flaming death, and that's not even arcane.

    The Cursed Book

*35 points isn't exactly "expensive" especially since you don't need much else on a necro. *True, but then again necro's are cheap and all Vampire's can carry arcane items. *Random spell, but they are almost always useful. Worst case would be Doom and Darkness against unbreakable armies...

Are combat characters worth it for us?

Well, I run my army differently that a lot of people here. I've always despised magic due to it's unreliability, funny considering my army of choice is the Vampire Counts  I've endeavored to make a combat oriented list in both previous books to greater, or lesser, effects; and this...

    The Cursed Book

It's not that you could get 3dice for a 5+ or 1dice for a 13+ spell. It's the fact that the Cursed Book is a 100% reliable spell...something magic is notorious for not having: reliability. A majority of the time you will get a clutch debuff out (the spells are useful most of the time) or draw...

    "Sequencing"

Thank you Mad'At, I knew it was in this edition. As for Hex/Augment stacking, the rulebook specifically states they are cumulative. I can't recall any that set your stat as 1, just mostly negatives with Speed of Light setting to 10s. The trick would be Speed of Light and Transmutation of Lead...

    The Cursed Book

I never argued that it didn't...in fact I did. The problem is that the Shadow Lore attribute teleports the wizard that cast the spell. The necro doesn't cast the spell, the book does.

    The Cursed Book

Except that the Wizard isn't casting the shadow spell, the book is. So if you want the book to swap places with another book, be my guest. If you can't add wizard levels to a bound spell your wizard can't benefit from the shadow lore attribute if a bound spell casts it. "...casting wizard can...

    Fear and Metal

How is it not a precedence? It is a Hex. It is worded nearly exactly the same (D&D is a RIP spell, Metal spell is not). They both function identically, but on different stats. The FAQ says D&D modifies the stat even after it is "set" to a specified value. Exact same function as Transmutation of...

    Terrorgeist clarification(many questions) help needed!

I wish Marshall666...would be nice considering the old FAQ let banshee's use the targets' profile leadership value. Odd that they would remove that ability now. As of now, Inspiring Presence is able to replace anyone's leadership for any situation excluding "unmodified leadership" situations...

    "Sequencing"

I can't remember where the rule is (I looked w/o success too...well hidden), but the only one that I recall addressing this is a sequencing rule that states the player who's turn it is chooses the order of things that happen at "the same time". (It might be in the FAQ) For instance, 2 powers...

    Fear and Metal

Interesting that everyone ignored the blatant evidence/precedence in the FAQ that i've mentioned. Doom and Darkness applies when leadership is checked, so is any hex that modifies a statistic. As for playtesting...as much as I hate to doomsay, I feel that GW does very little testing of their...

    The Cursed Book

This is true Johnny-crass...except that the wording of the attributes are much different. Shadow would not function as the book casts the spell not the wizard: so no changing places. And like I said above, the heavens one would work due to how it's worded. Same thing with Lore of Fire: it says...

    Bound Item Love

I don't see how you can't cast the same RIP Hex. The Remains in Play rules explicitly state what ends them, and casting another hex is not one of them. Enlighten me if there is another section that specifically precludes one from doing this. As far as that, the Cursed Book is flat out amazing...

    The Cursed Book

    1. Yes 2. Interesting notion...While the Shadow lore attribute could trigger, it does say "Wizard cast" but bound spells are cast by an item, not a Wizard (you don't add your wizard levels to bound spells for instance. Yet, the attribute of spell 6 (Heavens spell) actually should in fact...

    Black Knights

Indeed. In fact, flanking a unit is only useful for added CR. You need more ranks in order to put the CR to good use. "Disruption" pretty much only gives you +4 CR on your opponent (-3 ranks from them and +1 for flank...often another +1 for charging). You still need a large block to negate...
