Here we go again, with a new, season-appropriate (at least on the northern hemisphere) topic, Deathly Chill, proposed by @Shadespyre !

The topic is open to interpretation - we welcome all kinds of Deathly and/or Chilly undead models or units. Ghosts with their ghostly touch, zombies wandering through frozen wastes, undead Santa Claus, draugrs waking up from their crypts up north, white walkers from Game of Thrones or just some really chill ghouls, there are many possibilities!

Original models and conversions allowed.

The Prize: The winner earns the glory and a place in the Hall of Infamy thread. The winner also gets to select the theme of the next painting challenge (note that the winner only has a weekend to present the decision, so please be prepared and available).

The Rules:
  • All models entered should not have been painted more than a year ago from the date the entry thread is closed. This will not be enforced but violators will politely be asked to retract their entry.
  • All miniatures presented must have been painted by the entrant.
  • Max one entry per person.
  • Max 3 images per entry (including pictures in collages), of reasonable size.
  • No voting for your own entry.
  • No model can be entered into several challenges.
  • For every started set of 5 entries, each member gets a single vote (for example: with 7 entries everyone would get 2 votes).
  • Open entries and open voting. Everyone can see who painted what.
  • Models can be of any manufacturer and conversion but must fulfill all the criteria of the given theme.
  • If no decision on the next theme is made within a week of the winner announcement, the decision falls to the competition organizer.

The Schedule:
Week 1, Monday: Theme announcement and entry thread created
Week 7, Sunday: Entry thread closed. Voting thread opened.
Week 8, Friday: Voting thread closed. Result announced. Winner asked about next theme.

Because the voting was delayed a bit and I am posting this on Tuesday, we will start the official countdown from the next Monday - but you can all start working now ;)

This thread is now open for people to post their entries. Please state a name of the miniature along with the pictures (ex: Vampire Lord or Countess Squigmachine). The thread closes on the 3rd of February 2019 at (roughly) 23:59 CET (but we are not in a hurry, we can easily extend it much longer if someone needs to finish their entry)

And a list of subscribers who will get a notification about the competition (you don't have to be listed here to enter!):

We decided on the title because it included wintery themes (for those who want to do snowy bases or zombie santas) but could also be much more widely interpreted. I really don't have much in the way of undead to paint so it's not based on anything I have in mind...but I'll find something to enter, I'm sure!

Here's my entry, a Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon (with Ethereal Amulet). Haven't come up with a name I'm happy with yet for this guy, so 'Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon' is all I got for a title at the moment.

Some minor conversions to fit the mixed VC/TK Undead Legions vibe I've been keen on since the End Times. Should have been in for the 'death from above' round, but while the model was done I just never got around to taking some halfway decent pictures. Thankfully, the snow basing I use for my army qualifies it well enough for this round's chilly theme. Wish I had a better lighting setup for pictures, camera flash is not especially kind to this guy, but it's what I got, and I'm pretty proud of the model itself. I think it reasonably gets across the effect I've been aiming for with the aggressively limited palette of my current color scheme.

Wow, he's amazing! Definitely both Deathly and Chill! I suppose I still need to enter - I've picked out some minis, but doubt I can compete with that!

Thanks! Hopefully this year I can actually get an army painted for him to lead.

Entry question: Does a chilly paint scheme count? It's a Mortarch, and it looks indeed cold, but I wanna check before I enter it. Its not completely finished though, base is still missing

Absolutely! For comparison, if I hadn't entered them in the Ethereal contest, I'd be including those cold blue Wraiths I painted a while ago, which I think would fit the category

Okaay, so if this guy is chilly enough, I'll be happy to throw him in the ring. If not, delete the post or replace it with a sad skull!
The color scheme was taken from TLoZ Breath of the Wild, when I started painting the first mortarch I realized too late that the devine beast colors would work well on the mount, but the skulls were already finished in green... So I traded my Terrorgheist (which has no more practical use for me becaue the base size is way to big for everything in KoW) with a friend, who gave me his unpainted mortarch... Arkhan's armor was tricky at first, but rather quickly I decided to take another inspiration from Breath of the Wild, and took the Ancient Armor Set as the way to go. If you guys don't know any of the references, you should definitely play BotW ;)
So, pumped with the rare motivation of exactly knowing how I wanted the model to look, I painted 2 Mortarchs in one week, but only one enters here:

And I realize my phone takes nice pics for watching on the display, but on a monitor... ugh.

I know we are late, but we are waiting a bit for another entry. If someone would also finish something at the last minute, please inform me :)

Arkhan the Black was annoyed.
In his perennial quest to increase the domains of Nagash, in one of the many Realms that were plagued by the undead presence, a strong allegiance of the Order was pushing back all the attempts made by the necromancer's forces to overcome them.
One of the main points of resistance, was the Forest of the Verdant Spring, were countless dryads lurked in the deep shadows of the woods, standing still, invisible, able to perceive and hunt any undead that roamed their living paradise.

Taking inspiration by the Great Ritual that once was used by Nagash to turn an entire nation into undead, Arkhan developed his own, toned-down version.
The Endless Spell was cast and a supernatural cold tightened the core of the spring that was giving the life to all the forest.
Deadly poisoned, the water spread all across the dryads' reign, poisoning the soil and the trees that sucked their life from it… and the dryads too.
The magical poison turned the trunks black; the dryads' branches became encrusted with magical ice, hungry for the heat of the living and finally, the sap crystalized into them, leaving a wooden shell animated by necromantic energies.
Then, the spell reached its apex. The icy water of the aquifer turned the terrain into permafrost, and the deadly cold irradiated through the air, killing what was still alive and freezing the forest for eternity to come.
It was done. The forest was dead, guarded by malevolent, undead beings... a parody of the living wooden creatures they once were.

Unfortunately, things stopped to "go as planned" from this point on.
As the Great Ritual failed to accomplish Nagash's plan, creating a reign of skeletal beings with their own will, also this lesser version suffered the same fate.
To Arkhan's displeasure, the dryads kept their malevolent heart, refusing to aknowledge the new master. Only their forest matters… and if the dryads were used to fight all intruders, this new conditions had only increased their hate toward the rest of the world, be it living or undead.
Being unable to command them, Arkhan resorted to leave them alone, to act as an example of the fate that awaits those who will oppose his master.
