Upcoming Warhammer Fantasy Releases- Including Nagash & new VC stuff.

Maybe you are older in the hobby, I started in fourth edition, my first army book was Undead. When I said I preferred the old divisions, I perhaps was a bit vague. I meant more a good guys/bad guys division. Putting the two books into one doesn't really bother me. I find it harder swallow things...

Upcoming Warhammer Fantasy Releases- Including Nagash & new VC stuff.

Another grump here. I don't really like the models. They are far too toyish for my tastes, I can't decide if the biggest influence is Transformers, Pokemon or Disney. The old Nagash model with huge head was a joke, this one is a marvel of plastic engineering, but the head size seems wrong again...

Ah, you have discovered my secret. I really think that basing this way allows silk purses to be produced from any old sow's ear. Seriously, why don't you try it? If the 3x2 base is too scary, try a 2x2, after all it's simply an ogre sized base (40mmx40mm). It makes set up easier, it's easy to...

I think the biggest problem that mantic have with their skeletons is how they paint them. The sculpts are actually pretty detailed and well cast, mould lines about the same as GW. The faces are cartoon like, but then so are GW. The slot in weapons are not the best but it is possible to make them...

Cheers. It's Avatars of War, I didn't bother mentioning that as I assumed everybody knew of them.

Thanks for the comments guys, its always good to get a little feedback. A pair of characters to lead the skeletons into battle. The vampire is the first of three brides. She is Miss Black, there will also be a red and a white. The wraith is a Lord of the Rings barrow wight figure, I...

Thanks. They are 60x40mm at the front, 40x40mm at the back. I would normally play them 6 wide as in the first photo. There are a few singles at the back too, so I can slot in one or two characters if I want to.

I finally painted up my first skeleton regiment, two years after starting the army. Now that's shambling! ;) I am painting up a vampire and a wraith to accompany these guys into battle, hopefully by the end of the week. Then I think I really need some flyers and/or cavalry. I have...

I'm going to complain about Space Marines now.

Why do they charge these prices? Because some people continue to pay. Simple economics.

    Aesthetic or Performance?

This is where personal taste comes in. All those models you mention as looking great, are the very ones I think look awful. I much prefer the infantry and cavalry approach. But, as I say, personal taste. Any discussion on aesthetics will be, to a certain degree, a whole collection of...

If you could change just one thing....

I agree that getting the charge and combat resolution were far too powerful in 7th. But they could have done so many other things to balance things a little. Stepping up works well and immediately removes the old anamoly of standing around not fighting after a few casualties. Steadfast kind of...

    Looking for new ghouls

Here's a comparison shot I took before I painted them, the scale is pretty good I reckon. Ignore the midget on the end, the other two are more typical of the size of the models.

If you could change just one thing....

The disrupted units remaining steadfast killed the game for me. Any attempt to outflank your opponent is now pretty pointless, just charge into the middle and keep swinging those huge axes. Yawn.

    Looking for new ghouls

I used The Hobbit goblins as my ghouls. Mine are quite clean, as in cave dwelling albinos, but you could use any scheme. I just trimmed down a few of the bigger ears.

    Show us your Varghulf

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I love this model, I don't think the pose is awkward, though I guess he is no beauty. To me, it's a huge bat mutation, it crawls around the battlefield because it can no longer fly. Have you ever seen a video of a bat walking? I don't know if...

    Aesthetic or Performance?

Aesthetic for me too, though it has to be said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are enough alternates for virtually every component of the VC army, as long as you do not restrict yourself to GW models. So really you should be able to choose aesthetic AND performance.

    Show us your Varghulf

The standard model for me, best VC model GW have produced.

Thanks Adam, I am on a bit of a roll at the moment, I might paint up a wight king and a couple of wraiths next. I should really get on with a unit of skeletons, but that will take a while and I will probably save that for the end of summer.
