Greetings!
Twelve years ago on this very day I made my first own purchase in a Games Workshop store. I found an ancient scroll (an old receipt) that somehow has managed to survive all these years that proves it. Back in those days a regiment of 20 zombies went for around $27.
In a true undead fashion Games Workshop has since brought Warhammer Fantasy to an early grave (yet the only things that are getting raised again are the prices!). Nevertheless I shall be giving this army another go, and my goal is to actually paint the stuff that I buy and build. Those Zombies that I bought 12 years ago are long gone now, but ever since that day I have been longing to start a Vampire Counts army even though I never really got around to creating it besides buying a couple of things that never really lead anywhere. However, that is about to change!
I know that "The Old World" is destined to bring back the glory days of old, but since there can be no rest for the wicked I will now be starting a new project. A project that I began twelve years ago, but that will hopefully give me a painted army that will be ready once the "Old World" comes a-knockin'.
My goal with this thread is to share my progress, and hopefully it will help with keeping me motivated with my task.
My army will mainly be focusing on the Von Carsteins, and it will be set in an icy cemetery landscape. There will be unit fillers, conversions, and miniatures from various companies.
To give this project a start of some sort I painted up a character and a "unit" (feels wrong calling it a unit since it consists of just 1 model). I have found a color scheme and a basing method that provides acceptable results, and not to excuse my level of painting but I do think that the miniatures look better off camera somehow. Personally I totally understand why the word pain is part of the word painting since I usually struggle with giving miniatures a coat of colors - but alas, to get someplace you have to start somewhere so here we are.
Now to the first miniatures in this grave undertaking! Here below we have the fearsome Banshee, in mid-howl, giving all around her a terrible tinnitus. Up next is a Skeletor-esque boney boy that has crawled up onto a vantage point to better be able to see all the carnage that surely is about to commence once his zombie horde is unleashed upon the enemy. In life he was told that he should aim to have a kind heart, so now he carries the heart of a kind man upon his cursed staff.
Here they are together again for a group photo in less direct sunlight. They look like two supporting parents cheering you on from the sidelines during a soccer cup for kids. If you thought the lady had a scary front then wait till you see the back of this Banshee! She is a sight that gives sore eyes, and no lotion in the world can ease that discomfort!
I don't know what unit or character that I will be beating with a brush next, but stay tuned for more! There is plenty of room in this mass grave for any sort of weird and wonderful unliving things to come alive in the future!
