1k Vyrkos List Paint Log

Below is a 1k list that I am building for 1k point games this summer. I'll expand it to 2k over next winter. Of which, I'm planning on painting a couple of more packs of dire wolves and about 80 zombies. But. . .I digress. This initial (1k) army will hopefully have enough vampires to bring both damage and movement to the table at 1k. Further I hope that the skeletons are decent at holding objectives especially with some mobile synergy between the other units.

I initially purchased a revenant legion and a few boosters (dire wolves, zombies, Belladamma). I got the more beast-like contingent of the list built. I've added cork under models with weak/dynamic stances and my two Vampire commanders for both strength and aesthetics. I've yet to prime Belladamma yet, so I thought this would share my modeling process as well.

Next I'll build the Blood Knights and skeletons. Then will paint them unit by unit.

Alright, 1k built and primed! Below are the miniatures in my proposed list. All the models went together well. I will, however, raise one point of contention with the skeleton models. They are fiddly and brittle. By that I mean, for example, taking time to clip the legs from the frame otherwise you will break them. With some liberal gluing and some experience, this initial collection went together well enough. Minor criticisms aside, GW make some stunning looking models. The motion and layers in these models are remarkable. The hobby has evolved so much in the past twenty years. Without further ado, here is my 1k Vyrkos list built and primed. Going to start the painting with the unit of skeletons:

Alright. Finished my unit of 20x Skeletons, which turned out fairly nice. Next unit will be the Dire Wolves. I'm painting this list biggest units first.

 

[Raven Torrid]

Looking good, I like the colour choices and composition, the turquoise cloth fits very nice with golden scales.
Also the bases complement the colours nicely, with bushes matching the scales and the sand matching the armour.
Looking forward for more.

Here are my finished Dire Wolves. I've now got my two troops painted, next on the table are the Blood Knights, then my two vampires. This small army will feast before summer.

Here is an early stage pic of my Blood Knights. This way folks can follow the steps that I am taking painting this army. I used a zenithal black and white primer. Then I masked off the bases and primed the rider and barding red. I followed that step with a black primer around the horse and under bellies and bases. I'll follow up sometime next week.

Yes from a model perspective that is quite ridiculous . I do think it would be a mistake to give Blood Knights 2" range though, as it would encourage big deathstars of them.

Well, instead of giving the same exact stats to lance and sword, they could have used different profiles.
Using the same profile for different weapons was not a great idea, IMO.

Fellow forever friends (thinking of the show, What We Do In The Shadows),
Here are some (subpar) pictures of my 1k Vyrkos army list that ya'll helped to develop. I hope that this forms a playable and general army at 1k point level games. The next challenge, which will be another thread in the army list section of the forum, what to expand with next? My immediate plan are to add another unit of dire wolves and a necromancer. Then to build and paint up two units of 40 zombies. So, here is my completed 1k army to learn the new game (I've yet to play AoS). Any criticism or comments are welcome! Plus any advice on what to expand with next? Feed well.
