I'm showing my age here, but would anyone be interested in participating in an Advanced Heroquest role-play?

For those who don't know Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest were two board games released in the late 1980s and early 1990s respectively. Heroquest was played on a large board, while Advanced Heroquest involved dungeon creation using tiles. Both games used figures similar to GW's Warhammer range, indeed many miniatures recommended for Advanced Heroquest were Citadel miniatures. For more about the history of the two games, please see this topic.

For the role-play to work I would need a minimum of four players, but a maximum of six could be accommodated. It works by using the Advanced Heroquest rules with the Heroquest board, and you get to see maps of the game as the role-play progresses. You gives orders to your characters as to what they will do, and this is normally accompanied by as much role-play as you wish to include. For example:

Action: Sven the Barbarian moves two squares north to engage the Orc in close combat.

Role-play: 'Bellowing a ferocious cry, Sven charges towards the Orc raising his two handed sword to strike the foul beast before it can raise its shield to defend itself'.

Before and between quests into dark and dangerous dungeons, there is also scope for a more substantive role-play element. You get back what you put in as regards this part though, so it depends on you as players has much pure role-playing is involved. You get to guide this :).

More information about character creation, and the rules will be explained if there's sufficient interest. Most of the work is done by me though, all you'll need to do is to provide me with the details of the type of character you'd like to role-play, and what your specialist skills would be (e.g. close combat, ranged, or magic).

So, do any of you feel like playing some heroes ranging from barbarians to wizards to go and clear some dungeons of all sorts of creatures which may threaten the Empire, to rescue a captured nobleman's daughter, or to find some long lost artefact? If so, this is the right place for you.

Any expressions of interest, questions, or constructive comments are welcome :).

As long as an utter lack of knowledge on the game isn't a hindrance then I'll happily sign up! :D Can I play some sort of swashbuckling fellow? :D

No knowledge of the game is needed at all :). I can explain things as we go, and post more details in this topic once enough people have expressed an interest.

You can certainly play some sort of swashbuckling fellow if you wish :D. Did you have some sort of human Tilean mercenary in mind? Or a corsair type character? Human characters of any type are pretty straightforward to create, as its their combat style which distinguishes them more than their stats.

Oh yes, definitely, you can have that :). Especially since I always wanted to field an Estalian army. I can certainly use those rules for help with character creation for you too, so that's a very helpful link.

I'm very happy to accommodate everyone where possible with character creation, so characters from more unusual nations, like Estalia, are most welcome :).

Thanks for expressing your interest Get. Sadly, it doesn't seem as though it's catching anyone else's imagination, so it's not going to run. I might give it another whirl at some stage in the future.
