I found this group on Facebook and if you're not already aware, you might like this Mr. Anderson.

They've compiled and created a version of the 4th/5th edition warhammer (with the old S7 T6 vampires! šŸ˜) and also the card magic phase which I loved! It's got some interesting things, and there are some tweaks to make it more balanced. It's like a refined version of that time compared to say TOW which maybe is a revision and compiling of the 6th/8th editions. I've attached the docs for them.

Be curious to know if anyone has played it or what others think?

Yeah, I've played WHR a couple of times and it's good. It's mostly a blend of 4th edition (overall characteristics, army building and especially the magic phase where both players cast on each player turn!) and 8th (all units strike in two ranks, casualties are not removed from the front) with some sprinkle of others. It seems to have really taken off in Denmark (where it was written) and they hold several events every year. I've not been to one of those yet but I intend to, some time.

WHR is more a total rewrite than a set of house rules. Much of the game rules, all the army books and the magic items have been remade, with the only thing remaining original being the magic cards from the 4th edition.

As to why we haven't adopted it, you've already nailed it really - we've settled on the bits we like the best and our evolving tastes change it up over time. Renaissance is one man's vision of how the game should be and ours is another, just floating in the vast sea of opinions and preferences. :p

I'd agree, but it's good to see how many of these have matured and become options for people who want to continue to enjoy certain eras for WHFB. Feels like we might need a sticky post detailed the different gaming systems.
