Hello everyone,

Around two years ago I came across Kaptain Von's post on updating the circle of blood campaign pack to later editions.
On the contrary, I wanted to use his post and update the Undead Player's Battle Scroll to have an only VC army list of 5th edition, based on the VC army book 5th edtion that came out only after the campaign pack.

Unfortunately, his original blog post is not available anymore: https://kaptainvon.com/2017/08/20/middlehammer-circle-of-blood-hack-job-for-the-vampires so I wanted to ask if you could please help me to change the following force to a pure 5th edition VC army.

I don't know a lot about 5th edition VC but we would love to play the campaign pack with the 5th edition VC army book. Which units and limits would you use as replacements to still keep the idea and spirit of the campaign pack but use the 5th edition VC army book.

Thank you very much!

Bit late now, but since I wrote the original I feel I should have a crack at this.

In general the approach I'd take to VC-ifying the Circle of Blood lists is more "find and replace" than anything. Dire Wolves are a reasonable substitute for Skeleton Horsemen. "Any number of units of Ghosts" I think translates fairly well to "a Spirit Host". Carrion to Fell Bats. You get the idea.

The Red Duke is clearly a Blood Dragon Vampire Lord with The Strength Of Steel, nothing needs to change there.

The only sticking points, really, are the war machines. I don't think the Black Coach really belongs in Circle of Blood as its central Vampire Lord character is very much alive and cavorting around on his own. In my opinion the Banshee occupies a similar role to the Screaming Skull Catapult (OK, not really, but it's the pseudo ranged attack unit in the Vampire Counts army and you can take 0-3 of them in a 3000 point game, it sort of fits). The Chariots are a bit trickier but I would probably allow 0-1 unridden Winged Nightmare in the second scenario and maybe 0-1 unridden Winged Nightmare or Zombie Dragon in the last one? They're harder to stop with missile fire than Chariots, they fly high and cause terror, so I don't think they should be showing up in numbers, but one probably won't kill anyone it shouldn't and without a rider they're one whiffed set of attacks from going splat anyway.
