Entry Thread: Turning the World to Darkness: "Tip of the Spear"

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Welcome to the next instance of Turning the World to Darkness competition!

In the Turning the World to Darkness we pick a different theme each time, and the goal is to represent the theme or find ways to turn it to the ways of undead!

The theme of this competition, as chosen by Sception, the winner of the March/April 2024 competition, is "Tip of the Spear"! ✒️

The undying forces spearhead the attack against those foolish enough to stand in the way!
You are also encouraged to use models or parts from whatever army you feel like, not restricted to undead only. It could be a single model or a whole unit of them, of all scales and sizes.

Original models (sculpts) and conversions are allowed.

The Prize: The winner earns the glory and a place in the Hall of Infamy thread and a forum medal once they are available. The winner also gets to select the theme of the next painting challenge (note that the winner only has a weekend to present the decision, so please be prepared and available).

The Rules:
  • All models entered should not have been painted more than a year ago from the date the entry thread is closed. This will not be enforced but violators will politely be asked to retract their entry.
  • All miniatures presented must have been painted by the entrant.
  • Max one entry per person.
  • Max 3 images per entry (including pictures in collages), of reasonable size.
  • No voting for your own entry.
  • No model can be entered into several challenges.
  • Open entries and open voting. Everyone can see who painted what.
  • Models can be of any manufacturer and conversion but must fulfill all the criteria of the given theme.
  • If no decision on the next theme is made within a week of the winner announcement, the decision falls to the competition organizer.

The Schedule:

Week 1, Tuesday: Theme announcement and entry thread created
Week 6, Sunday: Entry thread closed. Voting thread opened.
Week 8, Sunday: Voting thread closed. Result announced. Winner asked about next theme.

This thread is now open for people to post their entries. Please state a name of the entry along with the pictures. The thread closes on the 23rd 30th of June at (roughly) 23:59 CET (but we are not in a hurry, we can easily extend it if someone needs to finish their entry). You can also comment and discuss in this thread, it is not restricted exclusively for entries.

If we could extend the time limit by another week or soI would appreciate it - the entry I meant to submit will not be ready. I thought I'd be able to get painting done while dog sitting but that just hasn't been a thing.

If people would prefer to end on the 23rd, though, I have something else I can submit. I'll have an entry either way. Just not what I was ~hoping~ to present.

As promised, here's a unit of

[UWSL]Glaivewraith Stalker[/UWSL]

[UWSL]The last one acts as "musician" (well, of course he's not a musician, but stalkers don't have a real leader, so i've decided to elect him as musician)[/UWSL]

Bah, even with the extra time I still didn't manage to finish my intended entry. Too burnt out lately. But I do still have this pile I (re) painted a couple months ago, going from the original green cloth with black accents to black cloth with green, & also cleaning up the bones & metals. Still on theme since they're (mostly) armed with spears, and still part of the soulblight spearhead.

Skeleton Legionnaires
of the Forsaken Sacrament

These skeletal warriors, once part of the infamous Legion of Sacrament, still glow with the lingering power of the necromantic rituals that first animated them. Unlike the renegade vampires and necromancers that they serve, they can feel neither fury at the betrayal that claimed their comrades, nor regret at the greater destiny that circumstance denied to them.

Hahahhaha Im an idiot, after taking the picture I let the model stand and then today I saw my cat gnawing at the tip of the spear. Luckily I got the tiny piece out of his mouth. Maybe little Merlin also knew that the theme of the competition was Tip of the spear and he wanted to participate?
